Relax folks, it's a joke - maybe.
Weekly Political Joke
August 10, 2009 by Dan Mitchell
According to rumor, this is a transcript of an actual interview between a female broadcaster and an Army General who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation. I assume it is just an urban legend, but one certainly can imagine such an interview taking place.
INTERVIEWER: “ So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?”
GENERAL REINWALD: ‘We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.”
INTERVIEWER: “Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?”
GENERAL REINWALD: “I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.”
INTERVIEWER: “Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?”
GENERAL REINWALD: “I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle range discipline before they even touch a firearm.”
INTERVIEWER: “ But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.”
GENERAL REINWALD: “Well, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?”
The radio went silent and the interview ended.

I'm for gun control, but also advocate anything that appropriately trains people to handle guns responsibly. I'm sure many gun control folks get worked up about even the thought of people touching guns, but if that's the case, they should get equally worked up about violent video games, which teach a lot more irresponsibility than training somebody with a real firearm. People who really know guns tend to be pretty frank about the dangers associated with them.
That said, keeping insane people away from guns does not seem to be irresponsible either.
Got a laugh out of me, but at the same time it does make a point, and a very good one.
Glad it made you chuckle. Both aspects of your comment also occurred to me when I saw it.

I'm pondering this question, as I've had several interviews lately and worked my way through the whole process. When we got to the end, I asked "how much?" Only to find out it's not enough money. I know times are hard, but crap....I just don't want to go to work somewhere if...
