Regardless of what Trunk thinks about the Democratic Party, their budget problems, etc, he is to represent all of the people or is he to dense to not see that, this "stable genius".?

So, he bails out just GOP run statehouses? When as far as I am concerned his negligence has exacerbated the crisis to this point in the first place.

Ok, I am not all brine and vinegar.

Should only states that are poorly run, do not require the taxes they need from their people, and encourage the support of millions of illegal aliens get all the money then?  Paid for by states that DO take care to be financially responsible?

Where is the "rainy day fund" of those states, anyway?  Surely California has a trillion or so, given their budget, set aside?  It's called "fiscal responsibility" after all.

Sorry.  Stripped of the political issue, this is something that tweaks a nerve in me.  I watch as state after state and city after city exhibit almost zero financial responsibility, knowing they can get the feds to force people in other states to bail them out.  From waiting until the need for a new water treatment is absolutely imperative in the next year to waiting until the new subway is either built or the city comes to a halt, no one wants to fund their own needs.  Just get strangers from across the country, that will never use what is purchased with their money, to pay for everything.

What about poorly run Republican states? It is not that they do not exist.

Trump put this on a partisan divide.

It is still fair to bail out states to the extent that problems with their economies can be directly linked to the Coronavirus, not just saying "I won't give you anything".

I did say "stripped of the political issue".

I know he did - that's part of his campaign.  I don't agree with it, but we can expect both sides to continually slam the other until after the election.  Ignore it - children at play.

No.  If the people in poorly run states, that have saved no reserve, need money to survive then we shall give it to them.  As we always do, which is why they never have enough to survive an emergency.

Yes, it's like Florida, which experiences hurricanes often and wants Federal assistance, who bitches about giving NY City assistance when they're going through a pandemic.

The leech states--those which get more than they put in--bitch louder than those who put in the most. More than likely red states...

Right. And if a state actually does save money in reserve, citizens like you complain that their taxes are obviously too high since the state has extra money. Oregon even passed a "kicker" law that requires the state to return excess funds to the taxpayer.

Fascinating.  I was very proud that my state (Idaho) escaped harm in the recession because of they had that "rainy day reserve".  And that they made the effort to re-build it so it is available again in today's emergency.

But your mind reading crystal ball says I complained about having it.  Fascinating indeed - I think you got gypped.  Better ask for a refund.

(I'm sorry Oregon liberals aren't smart enough to have such a fund, depending on others somewhere else to provide it for them.  But then, it's a very liberal state and as such is not known for fiscal responsibility to it's citizens.  Of course, Socialism never is fiscally responsible, always having the money of someone else to use...until it doesn't and the whole ponzi scheme collapses on itself.)

Oregon wasn't always liberal and it certainly wasn't liberals who fought for the kicker back in 1979. You remember the anti-tax sentiment that swept the nation back then?

Our current Democrat governor and legislature are working to get rid of it and conservatives are fighting to keep it.

Probably smart.  Liberals will simply spend anything in a savings account, forever inventing "emergencies".  Perhaps that illegal aliens don't have homes.

So if they're going to spend any extra taxes, why collect them?

It is just that in these crucial times, in the balance of life and death, we can ill afford to play political games, making statements that can be considered not for the general good of the country as a whole.

New York and other "coastal elite" states contribute far more than other states full of the so called "real Americans."  smile
