To Liberals, how would you envision a conservative United States?  To Conservatives, how would you envision a liberal United States?

My my, this will take some intellectual abilities from all sides.
I will take a stab, but I gotta get my FACT Ducks in a row. (Might take a while.)

My prediction is that conservative points of view will be based on actual facts and logical deductions, while liberal points of view will be based on fake facts and emotional, knee jerk thinking.

      More likely ... crickets. hmm

As a Republican, I would see more of what we have had to live through under Biden. More spending on fluffy crap, more inflation, more silly social programs, and government overreach in every aspect of our lives. You know, words become forbidden, and replayed with new words, more crime, trying to disarm all and enabling one to defend oneself
against criminals. Oh my, I could go on and on. But we already are living with all I have listed. My imagination could add more, but it's hard for me to think about what we now are putting up with. OH, one more thing --- it could get much worse if we had another Dem president that had a functioning brain. Yeah, could be much worse.

The great state of Louisiana just forced a woman to choose between giving birth to a fetus who has half its skull and brain missing or to travel outside of her state to secure an abortion.
I can't think of anything that is more of an example of government overreach than Republican state sponsored forced birth.

That is a good example of why abortions should be allowed.

And one can find equally bad examples of healthy 9 month pregnancies being terminated to argue the other side.

I look at both types of examples and consider them two of a thousand examples that something is very wrong with America today.  The country has lost its way, has lost its common sense, and perhaps its sanity.

To the Question.. a liberal America would look much like CA & OR.  A Conservative America would look like Wyoming and Florida.

The problem is, the people of Florida and Wyoming are fine with CA, OR and NY doing what they want to do... so long as they are left alone... but that is not good enough for the Progressive, Democrat, Left agenda... they need to spread their beliefs to every state, and every nation.

Its hard to do when people look at what is happening in CA and say "not here, not in my State".

This is one country Ken, Wyoming may prefer Trump and California, Biden. You can't have two presidents, yet California has 50 times Wyoming's population, so, you guess who should prevail.

Also. The Right wants to nationalize anti abortion, why can they not leave their arcane values and laws  within their own state borders?

The Right, Republican, Conservative agenda sucks no matter where it is found.

Credence, this couldn't sound worse if you tried.

On the one hand you appear to support Ca and Or deciding how people in Wyoming should live their lives...then turn around and decry conservative efforts to force other states to live the way conservatives want them to.

              What's good for the goose...

Let's clear it up, my point is to say that Ken's observations that the left imposes while the Right leaves alone is in error.

But if we all had to take a single course, the desire of majority of citizens takes precedence, not the handful.

And with the country split almost perfectly 50/50 that "majority" would be the liberals, right?

How about both sides just leave the other alone to go their own way?

                  1. Credence2 profile image80

                    Wilderness and Ken

The majority is who gets the most votes. I had to live with GW Bush in 2000 rather than my choice of Al Gore because of a difference of  500 votes. So I lost out on a manner of governance for the entire country that I preferred because of 500 votes. All the same though, majority is majority, and I don't have any better system unless each of the 50 states become sovereign nations.

So, how do each side go their own way under such a circumstance?

I can live with them making this abortion issue one to be decided by the states but do you have to tie up women to keep them from leaving or strive for national bans?

As for the"bad laws", that applies to Republicans as well.

Majority is over 50 percent and those that are 49.9 are the minority and is required to submit to majority rule which is our democratic method. So, a "handful" can not prevail over the majority and must never be allowed to.

                  You made a good point.

However, the SCOTUS didn't try to make it illegal everywhere, they kicked it back to the states, it is the progressive/left that is outraged by that.

For my part, I would rather have one state with bad laws, its better than all states having bad laws forced on them.

Our problem is how you define "majority" and "handful".

I don't think there is a clear majority on many issues, certainly not nationally.

On June 24 this year, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade precedent that granted a constitutional right to abortion, prompting a number of states to outlaw the procedure.

... Louisiana has become one of the most difficult places in the country for women to obtain an abortion since it is now only allowed there if a pregnancy endangers the life of the mother.

Another exception is if the fetus is deemed to have an untreatable condition that would make it unable to survive after birth. Such conditions are deemed 'medically futile.'

Now, a pregnant woman says that despite her baby being diagnosed with an unsurvivable condition, doctors have still told her they are unable to carry out an abortion procedure."

The doctors are not following the law.

The fetus's condition, acrania, does not appear on the state's list of medically futile conditions that would grant an exception allowing an abortion, despite the fact that the condition is still unsurvivable. Some of these babies are born alive and I guess that's all that matters to these bureaucrats. Politicians substituting their uneducated, extremist ideology for the skill and judgement  of a doctor.  It's par for the course in states where reproductive freedom has been taken away.

It seems that the new law does include a long list of “congenital disorders and chromosomal abnormalities” that do allow for the abortion procedure including 24 conditions.

Actually, Acania is on the list. - Do we actually have any info from the Doctor that she claims refused to do the procedure?  It appears that this condition is covered, and one can receive an abortion in Louisiana. Could there be more to this story?

The list of “congenital disorders and chromosomal abnormalities” that do allow for the procedure includes  24 conditions.

        achondrogenesis
        anencephaly
        acardia
        body stalk anomaly
        campomelic dysplasia
        craniorachischisis
        dysencephalia splanchnocystica (Meckel-Gruber syndrome)
        ectopia cordis
        exencephaly
        gestational trophoblastic neoplasia
        holoprosencephaly
        hydrops fetalis
        iniencephaly
        perinatal hypophosphatasia
        osteogenesis imperfecta (type 2)
        renal agenesis (bilateral)
        short rib polydactyly syndrome
        sirenomelia
        thanatophoric dysplasia
        triploidy
        trisomy 13
        trisomy 16 (full)
        trisomy 18
        trisomy 22
A profound and irremediable congenital or chromosomal anomaly existing in the unborn child that is incompatible with sustaining life after birth in reasonable medical judgment as certified by two physicians that are licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana.

It is not on the list. Seems as though absence of the heart is a reason but not absence of a good portion of the brain.  go figure. I don't know, did they consult with actual doctors on this in any way?

Yes, I see acardia on the list but not acrania. Makes me wonder if this was an oversight. As a rule, both conditions require an abortion.
