In my view, The time for solutions has come and gone. We have in the past two years had open borders and about 5 million immigrants have come in, and who knows how many got away. At this point, we need to close the borders completely until we can handle this huge influx and get some better immigration laws on the books. The Democrats have not acknowledged the problem, some are now that the Nov elections are close. They have no solutions, and its a day late...

        Any Dems out there???
        Is it too late?
Is there a solution to the millions flooding in?

        Well?

They have now.  Tonights CBS news reports that Biden is reinstituting that awful Trump era rule known as Title 42.

He's a day late and a dollar short, but he has to do something to gave votes for the mid terms, and the border is being reported as tied for second in importance to Americans.  Likely due to the busing of illegals to "sanctuary cities" that won't take care of them.

But it is comical to watch as Biden and buddies are being forced to admit that Trump DID do something right, that Trump's plan WAS reasonable, and that we DO need something Trump put into place.  Perhaps the next one will be building more of the border wall we started years and years ago.

Title 42 isn't a real solution it's just a temporary measure that doesn't address immigration issues in any long-term or meaningful manner. Maybe Congress should come together and Hammer out some legislation?? You know do what they were voted into office to do.

LOL  You're kidding, right?  Our politicians work together, actually together, to do what the country needs?  Not likely.

Yes, In my view, you are right. We need some great Americans that care about America, and Americans before we will see new immigration laws. laws that put America first.

Trump was doing a good job with telegraphing "don't come" we are not open for business, unless you come in legally, and can fill an American need.  His wall certainly would have helped Biden cut down on the flow, but in my view, Biden most likely wished he could rip down what wall was constructed. We need the wall, in my view.

Have Republicans acknowledged the issue with any solutions, legislation of their own?   I mean the good news is that President  Biden is turning back the Venezuelans. Using the same mechanisms that have been around since Mr Trump. Doesn't seem like much has changed. If Republicans would like to see more closed out or driven out then maybe they should come up with some legislation. Looks pretty status quo to me.  Lots of complaints and talking points but no actual solutions

Did I miss something? Has Nancy offered up a bill on immigration? Last I knew she would need to offer a bill, have it voted on, and if passed which it should, they have a majority... And then pass it to the Senate. So, first, the issue needs to be set forth by the Democratic House.

The last bill presented was  H.R.1177 - U.S. Citizenship Act. Here is what was in it. This shows little of what I feel would fix our immigration problems at the border, but would actually encourage more to come.

          Introduced in House (02/18/2021)
          U.S. Citizenship Act

This bill establishes a path to citizenship for certain undocumented individuals. The bill also replaces the term alien with noncitizen in the immigration statutes and addresses other related issues.

Specifically, the bill establishes a new status of lawful prospective immigrant. This status shall be available to an applying noncitizen who meets certain requirements, including being continually present in the United States from January 1, 2021, and passing background checks. After at least five years with this status, an eligible noncitizen may apply for and receive permanent resident status.

The bill also provides permanent resident status to certain applying noncitizens, specifically for eligible noncitizens who (1) entered the United States as a minor,

          (2) were eligible for temporary protected status or deferred enforced departure on January 1, 2017, or

          (3) worked a certain amount of agricultural labor in the five years prior to applying.

Among other things, the bill also

redefines for immigration purposes the term conviction to exclude convictions that have been expunged or vacated,

requires the Department of State to implement a strategy to advance reforms in Central America and address key factors contributing to migration from the region to the United States,

requires the State Department to establish refugee processing centers in Central America,

requires Customs and Border Patrol sectors and stations to have a certain number of employees with certain qualifications such as paramedic training,

generally prohibits religious discrimination in granting or denying immigration benefits,

and establishes grant programs for providing training and services to immigrants.

          https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-con … 20House%20(02%2F18%2F2021)&text=This%20bill%20establishes%20a%20path%20to%20citizenship%20for%20certain%20undocumented%20individuals.

I can certainly see why this bill did not pass in the Senate.

Why isn't Congress working, in a bipartisan manner, to hammer something out. Yes President Biden presented this bill I believe on day one. I don't think any bill remains in its original form. There has to be negotiation, ideas exchanged.  Where is the work being done?  Because we have this two-party system, it's always going to advantage one party to simply drag their feet.  To simply critique and complain without putting in the compromise or  the work to negotiate a plan for the betterment of our country.

Sharlee01posted 2 years agoin reply to this

Why? Because one side is conservative and the other is liberal. Did you read the bill I offered? This bill is made up of liberal ideas, and solutions that do not address our borders being overrun. In fact, they read as an invitation for more to make their way to the border.

So, I would imagine this is why that very bill did not appeal to Republicans.  I won't insult the bill I offered in my comment. I will say it did not address our immigration problems.

It is clear when the Republicans have had a Congress majority in some past years they did nothing either. Because we had a deep swamp. Hopefully, something will be done if we see a new Republican House in regard to sweeping immigration reform. Many Republicans have been campaigning on immigration reform.

I don't think it matters what the bill is made up of. It could be a garbage as far as I'm concerned but the job of Congress is to come up with a solution regardless. Doesn't matter what side of the aisle you're on or who proposed the bill. I want to see work and I want to see action. I'm sick of hearing complaints.  If the bill is so horrendous to the right, then come up with your own.  I have a feeling that a lot of America would rather see some cooperation and bipartisanship rather than just constant harping on what's wrong.  If your party currently doesn't wield a majority in terms of power that isn't an excuse to do nothing. And that goes for both sides. This government is ridiculously non-functional and inefficient.

It was the voters who elected these %^$%^^ in the first place.  What is needed is THINKING, LOGICAL voters who can visualize the long-term of the politicians they vote into office. Conscionable & mature politicians are needed, not tribal ones.   Politicians must be universalistic in scope & see beyond the party lines.   Many of the Democrats elected are SO FAR LEFT it  isn't even funny.   These Democrats are IN THEIR OWN WORLD & could care less about their constituents.   It is TIME TO REALLY CLEAN the current Democrats & elect Democrats who are traditional liberals, not wacko left-wingers.

Thank you. When the mob invade the Capitol, Pelosi, was ferry away first. When she and her henchmen are got rid of, then, and only then they be a better solution.                                 Seriously and critically, Pelosi, is an embodiment of evil in American politics. Her demons are always loosed against my Trump, even when he has left office. So bad of her.                                                    Oddly, one writer here in another forum thread beg me never to infer or mention  Pelosi, for these very reasons. Sorry my Kathryn, this reply is coming late on my end side.

Actually, while I am happy you responded here, the topic is about how AOC said there has to be a better solution than housing migrants in New York.

No! She said, "There has to be a better solution!"

("A better solution to New York City Mayor Eric Adam’s idea of housing illegal immigrants in her district.)

Kathryn again, thank you.                                     You never has know how I like Trump and his 'done'.                                      Seriously, who closed the American Continental boarder against those ruffian-like migrants? Who secure the boarder by building the walls? Trump. Who open and try to destroy the boarder and wall? Biden. And, who's now trying to redo what  Trump done? Biden. Critically, who's behind Old Joe Biden? Pelosi!                                         OMG these two persons  are behind the NYC challenge. So IMHO, take away Pelosi, and old joe biden falls. Once again, thank you, and enjoy the day.

OR are Republicans overreacting and this is a non-issue ... (unless illegal immigrants are dropped off in areas where they should not be, say Martha's Vinyard, of course ...)
