Bringing home these hostages is the end of this race. If Trump could have done it, why didn't he?

Biden might have removed his name from the ballot, but he just proved what it looks like to be presidential.

All that is left is for us to vote, and we will run to the polls to vote for the current administration again. Three million more of us chose Clinton over Trump. Seven million more of us chose Biden over Trump. I expect 15 million more of us will choose Harris over Trump. We've just seen what a competent president can accomplish. Why would anyone want to bring on the chaos again?

Thanks for this Kathleen, we witness competence in action verses boasting and bravado.

I have confidence that people will come to their senses at the voting booth in November.

Oops!  WRONG AGAIN! But consistent with his noxious ego and his adoration of Putin.  Almost sounds like treasonous Trump was asking Putin to hold on to them.  Trying to pull a Reagan  hostage release.

"Evan Gershkovich will be released immediately after the election, putin will do it for me, and I don't believe putin would do it for anyone else."

    Listen to him bloviate..

Bravo to Biden who negotiated this  historic & complicated  release of Americans held hostage.
Biden did this.  Truly incredible diplomacy.

He also exposed one of the fatal flaws of MAGA. A single, all-powerful leader can never be as powerful as the strength that comes from rallying the strong relationships you've  built.  Allies matter.

Deflection.  But...Psst. Have you heard? Illegal border crossings are down. Way down.

Unlawful crossings by migrants along the U.S. southern border dropped for the fifth consecutive month in July.

Why would they want to come HERE????
after Biden has ruined America... (after Trump had restored it.)

Not to mention: "The scorching summer temperatures have also made the migration trek even more treacherous."

So one month you have 10 squatters move in your house and the next month only 5? Does not sound like things are getting better.

Especially when there is another 8 in the basement and outdoor garage that you haven't seen yet.  Plus the dozen you invited in and moved to the master bedroom, saying you felt bad so would help that dozen.

Yeah right, they are living better than you are.

First lets remember our politicians didn't make it a priority (until election time)... remember what was the priority?:

              https://twitter.com/RepThomasMassie/sta … 1945360480

So what are the reasons why politicians refuse to do anything?

"The title should have been: Tyson doesn't want to pay competitive wages to do a crappy job, so the government is bringing in migrants at taxpayer expense, to work for cheap".

Some quick research into various sources show that Tyson pays an average of almost $20 an hour for it's unskilled labor.  These include maintenance and production jobs, maintaining poultry, killing it and  processing it.   Their wages are certainly competitive versus other unskilled work.

What exactly are you looking for politicians to do?   How much more are Americans willing to pay for their chicken?   Wage increases will certainly show up in the bottom line cost.

Biden or the "government" isn't replacing or bringing anyone in.  These are jobs that citizens have long since shunned.   Unless we're giving up meat, who will work in the industry?  Or any of the other essential industries that run on migrant labor?   It is a fact that we are currently in a labor shortage, what are corporations to do?

"To attract more workers, meat and dairy employers were forced to pay higher wages. This has, in return, increased their production costs even more. In just three years, the median advertised online wage for workers in the meat and dairy industries has risen by 34%, from $14.95 to $20.00 per hour. "

"These higher costs have forced some farmers and meatpacking plants to close, decreasing the supply of meat and dairy products and leading to yet higher prices due to increased demand. According to the USDA, average meat prices were 8% higher in 2021 than in 2020. For context, the 20-year historical level of retail meat price inflation is 3.2% per year — meaning the 2021 increase was almost 2.5 times above average."

"A study found that retail milk prices would nearly double, and the dairy industry would face a total output loss of $31 billion, if farmers lost immigrant workers."

So what's the answer? Trump apparently thinks we should deport 20 million people who are crucial to these industries.   What impact will that have on the economy?  If all that is said and done, how much does my pound of chicken cost?

Again, I don't think anyone has spoken to the impact to our economy if these workers are removed?  Should our meat  industry be forced to shrink? How much more are we willing to pay for meat and dairy? Has anyone actually listened to the folks who run these businesses?

We do have immigration policy / laws.  How have they been broken? And if this administration is broken them, why haven't they been taken to court by Republicans or Republican backed groups?   Folks are already complaining about the cost of such products due to the lack of workers even with migrants doing these jobs.

His most recent executive action that limits asylum IS being currently challenged in court.  But where are or have the cases been that claim the administration is breaking immigration policy by allowing "open" borders?

These are just talking points, if Biden was breaking actual immigration law, the administration would be sued almost instantly.

I am sorry the comment was not clear, but it does have a lot to do with the discussion. If you let in 10,000 illegals per day, but then it goes down to only half of that, is that really better? I used squatters as a metaphor.

Thanks for asking. I usually read the forums every day but rarely comment as I think others have said it already, and are probably more articulate and better aware of the issues than I am. Even on this issue I think you all up north are much more cognizant of this issue than I am, but from a south american viewpoint I can tell you that everyone that wanted to migrate illegally was happy that Biden was elected since they knew he was not an enforcer like Trump.

          Highly unlikely.

We now have rampant child trafficking and sexual abuse going on because the border agencies no longer do the job they were meant to do... while any amount of holding and processing young children to determine what their needs really are and who their parents really are is unfortunate.

Not doing so makes it a far worse situation for the majority of children that are now serving as sex slaves and worse.

Because, after all, who drags children across international borders unless they have the absolute best intentions for them.

Trump possibly returning to office played key role in Russian prisoner swap: WSJ
Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was freed from Russia as part of massive prisoner swap last week

According to a Wall Street Journal report, German intelligence official and lead negotiator Philipp Wolff "saw an opening" when his Russian counterparts said they wanted to make a deal before November's American presidential election.

"Some officials deduced that the Russians were either concerned about an unpredictable Donald Trump coming again to the presidency, or they feared that Scholz would no longer be willing to help a president who rarely misses an opportunity to criticize Germany," the Journal reported.

Trump said earlier this year that he would get Gershkovich home in a hypothetical second term.

"The reporter should be released, and he will be released," Trump said during an interview with TIME published in April. "I don’t know if he’s going to be released under [President] Biden. I would get him released."

In an interview with FOX Business host Maria Bartiromo, Trump called the deal that brought home Gershkovich and others a "win" for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"As usual, it was a win for Putin or any other country that deals with us, but we got somebody back, so I'm never going to be challenging that," he told Bartiromo.

"It wouldn't have happened with us. We would have gotten him back. We wouldn't have had to pay anything. We wouldn't have had to let some of the great killers of the world go, because that's what's happened, as you know. And the deal is very complex because it just came out. So nobody understands the deal yet, and they make it complex so you can't understand how bad the deal is for us."
