Are we going to call her President Kamala?

When are we going to stop calling female politicians by their first name? We don't call the President Joe. We don't call Trump anything but Trump. Vance, Walz, Obama, Clinton, Bush. I think it is subtle sexism as a way to diminish the woman's achievements.

    Thoughts?

      President Harris.
We should definitely call her President Hillary. I mean Harris.

      Would you prefer "Mr. President"?

We have used different forms of addressing males and females for millenia, and very few of them (none in common use) has been "sexist".  Just recognition that women are not men.  If you look for offense you will find it.

Still, I would prefer Ms. President or President Harris.

        So would I.

"If you look for offense you will find it."

        Sometimes it finds you.

Gross offense will find you.  I was referring to your statement that "President Kamala" might be demeaning - look for offense and you will always find it, whether intended or not.  IMO it is one of the bigger social problems we face today: everyone is suffering through tremendous pain from being offended every few hours.

Yes, but I don't like the way the Brits refer to certain female royalty in a manner that looks disrespectful to me, like Fergie or they say "Kate Middleton" when she is actually Catherine, Princess of Wales.

I don't profess to know, or understand, the Brits royalty custom.  Whether it's how they treat royalty, how they refer to those people or how they come up with them, it's all "greek" to me.

That's a nice way of stating it.

I agree with you.  We don't say President George or President Joe. But I have to say that here in Arkansas, we still called him "Bill" unless we were in a formal situation. He was on a first name basis with everyone he met. He is a very unusual man. Now Hillary, well I guess they would have said "President Hillary!". lol

Maybe it would be best to just ask Kamala Harris directly how she wants to be addressed if she becomes president.

I think we should refer to her full name including the title "President Kamala Harris". A simple first name is not respectable.
Or, Can't we address her as Mrs. President just like "Mr. Prime Minister"?

I agree that first names are disrespectful of elected officials.

How about Madame President? "Mrs" speaks more of marital status with women and its feels inappropriate.

I agree. Madame President is more formal so she should always be addressed as Madame President in a formal situation, after she wins, of course. She can state her own preferences for informal situations and hope people respect that.

She was Senator Harris, Vice President Harris. Can't imagine her being referred to as anything other than President Harris.

I have got some doubts. I am addressing most of you by your First Names, I think. I treat you all as my friends and don't feel any discomfort. So, I hope it's okay.

Please continue to do so. We are all friends here, at least I hope so.

    "She's leaning into it."

I guess I'm just a product of my generation. Surely if she wins she will be President Harris. The office deserves respect.
