somewhere else, you said that Bin Laden was killed over a week ago. Someone gave you bad info. '"With Obama having authorized the operation, Panetta gave the order at midday Sunday for the joint special operations-military team that carried out the assault to raid the compound, the officials said." - MSN.com
You were pissed by that too? As was i. I mean they could've waited for like 15 minutes to let us see the ending of "Celebrity Apprentice", but instead they had to show news coverage of reporters telling us what OBama was about to say rather than just cutting directly to O'Bama the instant he is ready to make his speech.
Deader than a rusted door nail he is, and as they say in New York and Chicago, he sleeps now with the fishes.
The question will be how can this creep have been hiding, possibly for five years, within walking distance of the Pakistani equivalent to West Point.
And yes Obama gets the credit as the Commander and Chief and deserves it for taking the steps and making the right decisions to fulfill his campaign promise and threat to go where ever Obama was found to kill or capture him.
Like Obama or not, credit due where credit is deserved.
Obama promised to bring Bin Laden to trial that morphed into kill or capture when he finally had to put on the big boy pants and realize he was C-in-C of adults men and women willing to fight, kill and die for this country.
The assets employed to get Bin Laden had been in place for a decade. Some of the intelligence used to get OBL came from Gitmo detainees. Obama has been cutting assets and dollars needed in the war since his time in Congress when he consistently opposed every Bush tried.
Actually, you have your facts wrong. Obama said the U.S. would kill bin Laden during a presidential debate, before he was elected president. He made it a priority and did what he promised. I know, it's really hard to swallow. Competence matters.
"We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority," Obama said during the presidential debate on October 7.
Contrast that with George W. Bush, from a March 13, 2002, press conference:
Q: But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?
BUSH: Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.
Bush had different priorities, only 6 months after 9/11. You can try to convince people that the altered reality that exists in your brain is real, but too many people remember. We know the difference between a man and a boy, and Obama is not a boy.
Your disrespect, at this moment in time, is appalling.
Something I never understand. They got him a week ago, waited for DNA testing to confirm and will now announce. What did they match the DNA against? Dont they need some specimen taken from Bin Laden at some point in the past?
All the major news outlets are reporting that Bin Laden is dead. On FoxNEws.com the conservatives are doing mental acrobatics to not have to give President Obama any credit. It's hilarious.
I am anxiously awaiting the President's address. If the news reports are wrong, and the President's announcement is about something completely different there will be a lot of embarrassed reporters in a few minutes.
Maybe instead of sending his operatives to find a birth certificate (Pro Tip - check with the hall of records) Trump should have sent his operatives to find Bin Laden. I can see Trump kicking himself now.
O'Reilly will give Obama credit but Hannity, forget it, he's probably in denial.
Obama gets the credit, like him or not, it's his watch and he would have caught the crap if they had failed so he gets the cred for the success. Fair is fair. The real question is. How could this creep have been living, for as long as 5 years within walking distance from the Pakistani equivalent of West Point.
And what genius to have buried Usama at sea. No martyr shrine for this creep. Sleep with the fishes Usama.
Waiting for the Obamabots to gloat, oops waiting is over. It has already started. How is Bin Laden alive any way weren't we told he had died of renal failure and Bush was just using Bin Laden to expand the war?
You heard they found him in Dick Chaney's basement.
It is a time for caution. Bin Laden was far less relevant than anyone thinks. He was less relevant to the events of 9/11 than people think. The operation capability of Al Qaeda will barely be effected.
Besides, didn't the crap start up on Sept. 13th right after the whole singing on the capital steps?
The President took all the credit. Go Figure. I Hope this gives much needed closure for the many families that have suffered and lost a love. God Bless them. Pray for our nation! Peace and love. In GOD we trust.
The president most certainly did NOT take all the credit. Read the transcript. But, as commander-in-chief, he did give the order. So I guess it would be accurate to give him some credit.
And yes, he also didn't leave God out of his remarks. "God bless you. And God bless the United States of America." God was guiding our soldiers. But they are the ones who deserve the credit for this, don't you agree?
I know I said this same exact statement on another thread regarding this same topic, but I'll post it again here:
Although I think for the short term this is a great victory, as it can finally put the minds of those effected by 9/11 to rest knowing that the man responsible has been brought to some form of justice. However, I think the bigger question that I have, and I think everyone else should be asking as well, what does this mean long term wise? does this mean that the war on terror is over? If so, are we going to start pulling troops out of Afghanistan and Pakistan now? I know we can't for Iraq for obvious reasons, but what about the other two places I just mentioned? What's going to happen now? Now, those are the questions I really want to know, as I think the events that the O'Bama administrations makes after this bit of news will have even bigger impact on this country.
You are correct. Yes the President did give credit to a job very well done. I suppose because he was so firm on I did this, I did that, I did give orders, I I I it got to me a little bit. As if I am perfect or judge, I am not!! GOD is in charge and Praise Him for the orders and the men that did get binladen. Pray for our Nation and our leaders, Amen! I do pray for the President that He is led by divine light. I am very grateful He acknowledged the Lord God!! Blessings to you.
I didn't read all the posts so if someone already said this, forgive me; but why did they already "bury" him at sea? I would have thought that the government would keep his remains intact in a morgue to keep as proof.
For one, they didn't want to provoke people who might become enemies of the United States. Two, they didn't want there to be a specific spot where people would know where to find his body, as there would be a possibility of his supporters enshrining him like people did at the spot where Saddam Hussein is buried. Three, no country would have accepted the body, and bringing it back to the United States would have been seen as disrespectful to many of his victims and their families.
I just want to say one thing. Most people don't realize what our intelligence people go through, year after year, to help defend us from threats we have no clue about. They do it without public recognition, often away from their families for months, even years, in places and situations that are incredibly dangerous.
While the government was about to shut down, Obama was behind closed doors in high security meetings with the biggest, most dangerous manhunt about to come to a close. He obviously had many important issues on his plate.
Thank you for sharing the article. Many important issues, and at least one ridiculous one. Imagine how he must have felt having to address the birth certificate issue while all this was going on. No wonder he could barely contain his amusement.
Well, I am glad to see the American people come together in happiness and pride for this country. Obama didn't start this messy war in the middle east, but he will hopefully finish it and this is a good sign. Nonetheless, i hope the women and children directly involved with that mad man (Bin Laden that is) will find freedom and relief now that he is gone.
