How do I know whether the other person is serious or digging for info?

this girl and I have been exchanging emails the past week, 6 of them, 3 each. each email is increasing on details, but I think we are both wary of scams... her last email caught my attention, because most of it was pretty normal, but about 1/4 of it was generic, meaning that i've recieved some emails with almost exact wording to how she was explaining personality traits and descriptions... should i be more cautious after we meet? if we meet?

Go with your gutt. If it is to good to be true, it normally is not true. How did you meet this person? There are some really strange characters out there in the world, she may be okay and she may not. Continue to pay close attention to what she writes, the questions she asks, as well as her responses to your questions and comments. Some people are shy and some people just want email buddies and are afraid to say so. If you do meet, be careful, meet in a public place and ask all the right questions in person. You can tell more about a person when you are talking with them face to face. Be safe.

i initiated the contact (sorry, i should have stated that), thru an online dating site... i know most female profiles there are generic and try to scam guys, but she hasnt asked for anything just plain talking thru emails. how long should i wait before we meet? should i be cautious even after we meet?

A long term relationship actually happened for me from an on line dating site. We talked for a couple of months before we met though. It was constant emails and telephone convos. But of course like anything else, you have to be careful. There are a lot of strange people out there. You should of seen some of the responses I use to get. I would say 50% of them were crazy. So just be careful. Really get to know the person before you give out any personal info. It is the same as when you meet someone in a physical setting. You have to be careful. But just letting you know, real people and real relationships can form from meeting online. Best of luck to you!

first off who really communicates through email and feels safe with a stranger!!!.  If it doesn't feel right------more than likely it isn't right!  Even though we live in a virtual world most people tend to entertain virtual communication when they know the individual or know them enough to have a virtual relationship.

Before meeting up - going to have a phone call, yes?

Shayvan is right - go for your gut feeling. Even though everything taken individually  appears innocuous. - together the gestalt of it all is giving you an ill feeling in your gut.

But then I have serious trust issues that I need to work on and don't trust anybody - not even Santa Claus.
