What qualities do you most value in a close friend?

I seem to value the ones that I don't posses as much.

I value a person who will fully listen to me.  There are some people out there who you talk to and know they have no idea what you just said, but nod in agreement.  I also look for someone I can trust, no matter what.  And someone who can make me laugh through all the stresses of life.

The values that have been found in good friends that I've had and appreciated have been a good sense of humor, the courage to share the difficult that I've needed to hear, and have just been all around great people.

Through the years, I've met several people. I had set standards to look in a friend. But many failed to meet my criteria. Now that I think about it, setting some standards is ridiculous. I realized that it's impossible to have a "perfect" friend. A friend may differ with you in terms of likes, dislikes, religion, political affiliation, gender identity, etc. But that's okay, the most important thing they should have is willingness to help or unselfishness. They should always be willing to help in times of needs. And they should be willing to share what they know to help you. If a friend is selfish, then he/she is not a friend at all.

When they show up to help you move, that's when you know you have a true friend.

I have had many, many friends and still do however over the past few years I have been through some very traumatic times and I have learnt who my 'true' friends are and there aren't many, but that's ok.  I think a true friend is there for you no matter what.  They will drop their schedule to be there to help you, if need be.  A true friend is someone you know you can call and ask for help, even if it has been months, or even years since you last spoke.  They love and accept you as you are, all sides of you.  I have just looked up and seen that I haven't really answered your question .... qualities that I value would be honesty, crazy sense of humour (this really helps with physical and emotional pain), sensitivity, awareness.

I am blessed to have really good friends and a bestfriend. The qualities that I value most are their ability to make me laugh amidst hard times, their unselfish acts of listening to my worries even if they have worries of their own, their ability to accept, respect and understand the good and the not so good side in me and of course their ability to love me as me.

I think I love humor in a person.  If someone is funny and amusing they can get aay with about anything.
