Four times a week, five times a week, daily? Do you keep an open door policy for certain friends and not for others?
Longer than 20 minutes, once a month is too much--just kidding. No, my husband and I are very private people and do not like drop in company. We like to know when someone would like to come by. It just takes a phone call and then we are more than happy to see people. Of course my kids come and go anytime they like and we are fine with that--although some to think of it they usually call first.
I believe that excessive is defined when it begins to interfere with your life and your responsibilities. In my college days I had some friends like that. Instead of kicking them out I got them to help me get the housework done, projects, etc. After I did that a few of them stopped coming over as often....
