   It depends on what you mean by "spiritual". Be who you wanna be, and if that means watching porn and masturbating makes you happy, as long as it doesn't effect your life in a negative way... go for it.

   It's really an issue of lubrication. If you work your self into a frenzy and aren't properly lubricated the friction can cause your dry brush to catch fire. This can cause atleast 2nd degree burns that will stop you from personal pleasuring and lead to a build up of tension and stress. This can cause " spontaneous explosion" and it can be really messy. Theres nothing worse than being in a car when someone explodes, you have to go back home change clothes and you're always late for work!

      Perhaps he doesn't have a "loved one". I think it's rude to criticize someone for enjoying masturbation. It's natural. My best friend masturbates at the very least twice a day (sometimes more) and watches porn while doing it, but he is still very social and certainly does not act like a robot. On top of which him and his girlfriend have an active sex life! I don't see how acting on sexual instincts and needs is being robotic.

    It is a problem only when it becomes unmanageable and causes an overtaking of regular responsibilities or in the form of an addiction.
    
    Addiction meaning you cannot stop doing it even when you want to.
    
    The consequences, if some arise is an individuals decision whether help is needed as sex addicts is a very serious illness and a tough road to recovery.
    
    On the flip side, if its enjoyable and causes not problems, go for what you know.
