      It feels as good as two person sex and there's no risk of unwanted pregnancy or STDs. I don't think people really need a psychological or spiritual reason beyond that.

         I so agree. Self gratification is safer , you don't have to worry about getting pregnant or getting a STD. You might have a spiritual revelation when you reach that "O" but other than that  nothing else behind it.

      This also occurs in the animal kingdom and is more prevalent among males. One theory is that it is a way of keeping the sperm in the resevoir fresh, young and strong to survive the toxic environment of the vagina and insure successful fertilization of the eggs. Another theory is men are just, well, ... pigs!

   When we become aware of our sexuality, we touch and fondle ourselves. This leads to masturbation. Once you do that you enjoy your body. Moreover it releases the pent up emotions and gives relaxation.
   As for spirituality part ASK A PRIEST.

   Masturbation is a defilement of the body. But, it also guarantee instant pleasure and relief while it safely guards against stds, unwanted pregnancies etc.

      This is the definition of defile:

      c : to make physically unclean especially with something unpleasant or contaminating 
      
      d : to violate the sanctity of : desecrate
      
      I don't feel that masturbation fits any of these definition, so it is absurd to have such primitive beliefs...wouldn't you think?
