What should you not do when you get into a relationship?
Also when is the right time to let the parents know about the relationship?
You should not pretend to be someone you are not.
Always be yourself and if that is not good enough it means he/she is not "the one" for you. Don't let "happenstance" or "impulsive connections" dictate your mate selection process.
You have to figure out who (you) are, what you want and need in a mate before going out to pursue a relationship. To do otherwise is the equivalent of going shopping without a list!
"Never love anyone who treats you like you're ordinary."
- Oscar Wilde
As for meeting the parents that is up to you or your mate. There is no "magic timeline". No one should be forced into doing something they don't feel like doing. Oftentimes it's a sign of insecurity when someone (pushes) you to introduce them to your parents. After you "cave in" on that they'll be pushing for an engagement, ring shopping, setting a wedding date.
Life is better when (both people) share the same values, want the same things for the relationship, naturally agree on how to obtain those things and last but not least have a (mutual) depth of love and desire for one another.
There are only 2 ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships: We either get what we want or we learn to be happy with what we have. You're responsible for your own happiness.
If someone does not want what you want and you're unhappy then it just means they're not "the one" for you. Time to move on!
Thanks. Usually people ask you to not do so-and-so once you get into a relationship. But being yourself no matter what is actually the best advice there is.

That being said, I think the best way to move on from that situation is to try to get out there and meet...

Do parents own their children? This question can be interpreted in different ways; I'm open to reading what this means to everyone in their own personal responses. I've thought about this myself for years, first as an adolescent and now as a young adult. I've pondered it in different contexts and...

After yet another failed love relationship (we're still best friends) I've decided to opt out once and for all. Some say it's crazy but it's just a waste of time. If by chance I meet someone fine but I'm not looking and really want nothing more than friendship. To be honest I can find better things...
