Relationships with communication issues

    If you were married and your spouse would always get defensive if you tried to confide in them or talk about what you feel, yet they can do that with females other than you; what would you feel?  What would you do?

      It would depend on whether this was something "new" or not.
      If your spouse has always been this way it's who they are.
      Expecting them to become who they are not leads to frustration.

      Life is too short to be trying to change water into wine.
      The goal is to find someone who (already is) what you want.

      Generally speaking people only become "defensive" when feeling attacked. Odds are these other females aren't blaming him. He's a third party.
      They're not requiring him to "change" or do anything other than listen.

      We either accept them (as is) or move on.
      The choice is up to us. No one is "stuck" with anyone!
      If it's a "deal breaker" get out. If it's not, learn to do without.
      Suffering is optional.

    I would feel as if they are cheating on me, first and foremost. If I can't confide in my significant other but others can it is because they feel I'm a given in their life, and the effort they put in to getting me under their wing is one they quickly put into a new venture other than me.

    Being in an open relationship, my relationship revolves around communication and honesty about all things. What I give to someone else must come ten-fold to my life partner. The same goes for her to me, and if that dynamic wasn't there even if we were strictly traditionally monogamous then the relationship would quickly turn sour.

    Make sure your desires aren't ignored for the sake of your partner's comfort if you are being reasonable, because it is your partner's job to see you happy as it is yours to them as well.
