How can you use logic to justify the existence of God?
Or it just boils down to faith?
How is everything created? Without the will of nobody? As building needs hands to be built I think this earth is a beautiful building created by the will of someone, "GOD" as we call.
Yeah, but gravity and fusion aren't buildings. Are you suggesting God personally pulls stars together?
@eternals, God created the laws of physical reality -- set them in motion -- and rested. We are living in His "day" of rest -- all 13.7 billion years of it. God personally set it in motion and the "inertia" of creation does the rest.
We can label god as the unknown.
For example:
Humans thought that 'god' created adam and eve, then evolution come in.
In this respect god became smaller, but discovering evolution created more questions we did not know the answers to, thus making 'god' larger again.
Once you attempt to understand what god is, you already limit yourself to comprehending him/she/them.
To understand god, you must understand the universe and all it has to offer, without confining yourself to one book, after all, knowledge is power.
"FAITH" tells me that God exists. On the same note, how can anyone prove there is no God?
Physicist and evolutionists can never deny the existence of god, as it agains their nature, but they are able to supply evidence agains what he BIBLE says. So not proving god is wrong, but proving the bible is wrong. Although thats another question
To the contrary, they are continuously proving the Bible to be reputable and real.
As i am eager to learn about as much as i can, are you able to provide me with an example?
One excellent example are "The Dead Sea Scrolls."
Unfortunately these scrolls only prove the bible hasn't been changed over time as the scrolls are written in hebrew and can be translated, replicating most of todays bible.
Oh i understand your point, but what i mean is that just because we can prove the bible has not been manipulated, doesn't mean we can still use it as a viable source to prove the existence of god.
This requires 2 steps only...
First is to believe that there is no God and the second is to ask from your heart that if there is no God, how this universe came into existence? Follow the answer of your heart because the true hearts never lies...!
Before we find the logic for God's existence, first we have to find a logic for our existence!
The question asks how, rather than the what regarding the existence of God explained by logic as a justification. Since logic is to be the mechanism logic must be defined first. Historically since Socrates anyway that follows along a line of language, formal language, symbolic language, and finally mathematical language. With an amateurish speculation I ponder the logic of logic to cause or create the justification of existence much less g(G)od.
I would wonder if to present a complete proposition of knowledge while considering both beliefs and truths with logic then the existence of g(G)od for the argument is defined with a beginning. That beginning is with where logic begins while and not 'and' g(G)od begins also.
Before logic as defined by epistemology is ontological thought, with the never ending discussions and arguments with where one ends and the other begins. A large leap in faith one may humorously say that in and of itself defines eternity with a truth, at least thus far. Yet, that is not logic it is faith.
Can we make another leap and say if there is eternity then there is existence? I would presume so with supposition. Or, for this discussion the existence of g(G)od is established with logic seeking to define g(G)od through simple recognition of a 'what' must exist in order for something to be sought. And, existence is defined by the supposition of eternity as existence based on the 'never ending discussion trying to decide where ontology ends and logic begins.' Yet, too we have support for eternity with the pursuit of the 'what' being endless. Or, if anything we have eternity and it exists. Maybe one might say that existence occurs with eternity and the opposite is true as well that eternity occurs with existence.
Suddenly and interestingly we have things jump in to play. 'A Priori' and 'Posteriori' will duel with each other until the world is no longer flat on a single plane of existence. Thank Eratosthenes for allowing us some latitude. Yet, logic by historical perspective began somewhere. The battle of thought continues as Eastern thought and its many independent variables as we seek the dependent variable of logic as a known with new, only if that could be stated, 'a priori' knowledge. Or, can we compare and contrast Eastern thought and Western thought to determine logic as viable.
Again, with this discussion and its narrowing constraint, a leap of faith says logic is where g(G)od begins, yet not existence. A conundrum.
It is faith. How can people say they love or are loved…..faith.
Although I love the logical arguments put forth by 2 authors about this question and I do think they are brilliant. I wish to add the one thing that brought me towards God's existence rather than away...
It is really quite simple and is often overlooked. Within you is a force, in most it directs you to do "good" or the "right thing;" it was not developed in you by your parents, it was there before, it is that slight and somewhat ambiguous thought that directs you when you are cognizant of it. Now by no means is it necessarily strong, yet if you contemplate it is there...
Perhaps a scenario may assist me in explaining this better (then again, maybe not); have you ever offered assistance to a person in some kind of distress or stress? When I was around 12, I helped an elderly lady up an escalator in Toronto, Canada. It manifested little time or effort on my part; yet, the outcome for this lady and I was both profound and significant. I could not stop thinking about this incident for some time; (it was incubating in me without my knowledge). I came to the realization or maybe I should say I discerned that there was great benefit in helping others and the reward was significant (although of little value in this world). This thought was there it just had to be incubated and matured...Thus, proof we are not a tabula rasa and something must have encoded this in us... If you agree that we are not a tabula rasa; then how do you explain it?
Yes, I defintely believe God exists but burning a heretic and or doing anything destructive is doing the working of the devil rather than God's will. So we have to be careful of the dycotomy on this plane
I do not use logic instead my feeling and faith. In all my years of living, I have many ups and downs where God has guided me through. I seek His help and I was given. I believe we have our own guardian angels where they are our path of communicating with God. Use your faith and feeling to link with God through your guardian angel.
1. Ex nilo, nilo...out of nothing, nothing. There must be a First Cause. The big bang theory falls apart at the "Begining"
2. Life itself. Irreducible Complexity...there is no way for life to spring from non-life. The evolutionary model breaks down at the "Begining".
3. If there is no God, then murder can NOT be wrong. (admittedly this is more of a result if the other two are not true) as I have written on in a hub.
Rene Descartes once said, "I think, therefore I am."
Now, I tell you, the universe exists, therefore God IS.
It's His universe. We belong to Him, so He can do anything He wants with us and everything in this big, wonderful place.
God has created us in His image and likeness, but even most Christians miss the fact that God is not Homo sapiens! And they persist in making too big a deal out of these human bodies. The bodies are merely a tool to help us get back to God.
You can't 'prove' God exists - not yet. But you can use logic to demonstrate the reasonableness of the idea of God existing.
I exist. I have not always existed. I must have been created. I did not create myself. I come from a series of creatures like myself. The series has not always existed and did not create itself. There must be a creator. The creator must be eternal and the original creator or have been created by the eternal and original creator. That eternal original creator is God.
Faith and logic (or belief and reason) are not at odds, one is not contrary to the other. To determine that the existence of God is a reasonable idea can be arrived at through logic - to actually know the God who is God requires faith.
You can use logic to justify anything; what's different is proving this beyond a reasonable doubt, which is impossible to do with a god. This is why all religions are faith based, it's a critical aspect of it all, where God admits that you can't know for sure that he exists -- sure can have faith tho.

Who can post the best argument about the existence or the non-existence of God and can support their answers using real logic? Don't use faith based logic when proving the existence of God.

Don't you think it's silly to debate about the existance of God?It's called Faith people! You either have it or you don't. I'm sick of seeing all these questions and forums about proofing the existance of a Supreme Being. It's a waste of time and effort.

How would you approach an atheist to talk about God?The goal is to help them find faith.

Why do atheists take the bible so literal? In their effort to disprove God many atheists are as extreme as the religious fanatics they claim to be against. They take passages literally and claim they cannot believe in such a God. One who kills and is cruel. Why not see it...

How does free will explain or justify the existence of evil? Many Christians have told me that evil is a necessary byproduct of having free will. This doesn't seem to be true to me, given the following thoughts:1. If free will exists in heaven, and evil does not, it is possible to have free...
