   Do you agree with the statement: The only dumb question is the one you don't ask?

   Yes, I do agree with the statement of "The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.  I agree with this because no matter how dumb the asker may feel asking the question the answering person may find it a really great question.

   How often have you sat in a meeting or a class and been afraid to ask a question when the person running the thing asks "Does anyone have any questions?"  How often have you sat there thinking, "I'd like to ask 'about such and such a thing' but is it: appropriate?  Will they think I'm dumb?  A fool?  Will he/she even understand what I'm getting at?   ...better not make a fool of myself.
   
   Then the first question asked by another is the one you would have asked if you'd had the courage.   The only dumb question WASN'T the one you didn't ask!   It wasn't a dumb question after all.   The dumb thing was not to push the parameters of our comfort zone to the point where we broke through to a different level of courage.   
   
   So the next time you feel a 'dumb quesiton' welling up - ask it!

   As a trainer and a coach, I want everyone to make the best use of what I share and teach. At each break, I ask people, "can use use what you've just learned. Imagine doing it. If you can't use it, ask your questions now." I do everything I can to have people ask the questions they think are "dumb" so that they can learn and grow.

   I do agree with that because it always happens to me that out of fear or sometimes being shy that people might think i'm stupid or dump if i ask  the question so i just keep quite and pretend i undertand everything only then someone will get the courage and ask a question, and its exactly the question that i wanted to ask,and it was answered and not being critisized so then i felt bad having not the courage asking it.

   A question that you don't ask doesn't make it a dumb question. It only makes it an unanswered question. It can be construed as a dumb question because if you do not ask then you miss the opportunity to gain knowledge and wisdom which can lead others to call you "dumb". Hope that made sense...lol

   I will say that it's true but with reservations.
   Too often people ask questions that they already know the answer to or could easily deduct with just a little introspection.
   Asking questions should never replace thinking on your own.
   That said if you are unclear about something and have access to a expert you should always ask.

   There is a Chinese Proverb that says:
   
   “He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes;
   He who does not ask a question remains a fool forever”
   
   I've taken this to heart and always try to ask questions in conversations when something is being talked about that I don't know about, and sure enough I always learn something new!
   
   Not asking a question for fear of looking dumb (in conversations) gives you a greater risk of looking dumb if you try to pretend to know what is being talked about.   
   
   People love sharing their knowledge and showing off what they know and by asking you are showing humility and essentially you are saying "I respect what you know about the topic and would like to know what you know."
   
   There is so much we can learn from other people! We just have to ask the right questions.
