   How and Why Did Satan turn Ugly?
   
   Satan was the most beautiful angel in God's Kingdom.  Now it is depicted with grossly looking features, red and has a forked or arrow ended tail and is meaner than anything on this earth.  So why did it change all of a sudden in the Bible?  It wasn't because he sinned because Angels cannot sin.  Was he a she before the scholars translated that Bible and due to the FACT that they could not possibly had a female other than Lilith and Eve in it it had changed from female to male?

   Historically spreading,  it's because the christian church took a few pagan gods with horns,  a spiked tail - think of the image of a mythological faun - and changed the image of Satan to match.   If you're looking for a book that can explain the ransomed and evolution of Satan throughout history for several thousand years,  I would recommend "the origin of Satan" by scholar Elaine Pagels.  Also of note,  the biblical description didn't change.    The public image of him did.   It's an interesting read.

   Satan wasn't an angel like you describe. One that's perfect and never sins. He was a premortal spirit. He had not yet lived his earth life and still had a choice to become an angel or a devil. He was one of the more righteous spirits at first, but he rejected God's plan and took a third of the premortal spirits with him.
   
   Why is Satan depicted as ugly with horns and a tail? There's nothing in Scripture that says this, but my opinion is that we have tried to turn him into a fictional character so people won't believe he exists. I think that image of Satan was influenced by Satan. After all, one of his greatest tricks is convincing us that he doesn't exist.

      I'm sorry,  but that's historically incorrect.   The horns and a tail were popular in the dark and middle ages,  and people were terrified of the devil and his witches,  not to make him a mockery. This image was encouraged by the church.

      I said he isn't an angel like you described an angel as not being able to sin. He was an angel and a very good one, but he rebelled against God's plan and fell.

      Somewhere in Biblical teachings Satan was beautiful.  You did not answer my question nor read my explanation.  He could NOT have sinned or he would not have been an angel period.

      His Story is usually one man's version of the truth and based on American his-story alone is filled with falsehoods. Consider American his-story told by a Native American, not such a rosy picture is it?
      Satan tried to help us, TPTB want us as slaves.

   The Church needed to create a 'fall guy' to demonise, who lost his good looks because of his greed etc. It wouldn't have been able to demonise him if he had been ugly in the first place, everybody might have felt sorry for him and that would've been counter-active.
   As it was they only succeeded in creating reactionary devil-worshipping cult groups who based their idols on woodland satyrs. This was Roman Christian versus Greek pagan mythology (remember there was a schism in the Middle Ages between the Western and Eastern church hierarchies).

   Perhaps it had to do with the heat from the fire down in Hell.
   
   Or perhaps it was due to the mere fact that, over time, revenge - emotionally and spiritually - took its toll on the face and body.

     And the original Archangel, or possessor of the command of the Heavenly Host, is call’d the Devil or Satan, and his children are call’d Sin and Death.      
     But in the Book of Job, Milton’s Messiah is called Satan.      
     For this history has been adopted by both parties.      
     It indeed appear’d to Reason as if Desire was cast out; but the Devil’s account is, that the Messiah fell, and formed a Heaven of what he stole from the Abyss.      
     This is shown in the Gospel, where he prays to the Father to send the Comforter, or Desire, that Reason may have Ideas to build on; the Jehovah of the Bible being no other than he who dwells in flaming fire.      
     Know that after Christ’s death, he became Jehovah.      
     But in Milton, the Father is Destiny, the Son a Ratio of the five senses, and the Holy-ghost Vacuum!      
     Note.  The reason Milton wrote in fetters when he wrote of Angels and God, and at liberty when of Devils and Hell, is because he was a true Poet, and of the Devil’s party without knowing it.

   According to my research Satan got his bad name from the Illuminati, he was a lieutenant in what is known cosmically as Lucifer's Rebellion. Lucifer tried to jump start humanities evolution by giving them the knowledge of the tree of life, by awakening the Serpent of Light or Kundalini in Adam and Eve.
   
   Because Satan was the spiritual governor of Earth at that time and was trying to introduce benevolent spiritual concepts into humanities life principles, The Powers That Be at that time felt that the best way to bring down his organization was to infiltrate it and give it a bad name.
   
   So they went about describing Lucifer and Satan as evil and showing humanity that everything about them was evil, blaming them for wars, pestilence, murder, starvation and all manner of bad deeds.
   
   Over thousands of years these stories eventually made it into the Bible and the rest is his-story. No good deed goes unpunished.

      Consider a War for our souls, the good guys lose.
      
      The winner wanting to keep us as their slaves and ignorant, paints a picture that the good guys are evil and generation after generation keep telling us the good guys are evil and we believe them.

   Angels can most definitely sin.  Satan turned evil because he desired to usurp God's throne, and his arrogance and pride got the better of him.  He also convinced about a third of the other angels to side with him, and then tempted some of them into creating the nephilim.  Satan is portrayed today in comics and pictures as having an ugly appearance because everything he now stands for is ugly.   Also, God withdrew His radiance and love from Satan when he fell, so he lost his beauty.

      No, it's mentioned in the NT somewhere, I cannot remember the exact verse where it talks about how Satan was once so beautiful, but fell from heaven like a bolt of lightning, or something.

      That passage is in the old testament,  and it's taking about the king of Babylon,  who was mentioned by name just a couple verses earlier.   You're believing a story that isn't even in the Bible.

   I suspect the idea of Satan becoming "ugly" is only a misunderstanding, like "wrath of God."
   
   God is love, not wrath. The effect of "wrath" is a combination of human sin and the laws God laid down colliding.
   
   Satan is a servant of God, using his/her skills to challenge and test us as he did with Balaam and Job.
   
   Gender has many meanings. Softer attitudes are said to be feminine, but they have nothing to do with female Homo sapiens. Angels have both kinds of attitudes, but none of the genitalia of animals.

    Lady Guinevere--It is a difficult question if one accepts the premise. I believe that the god you refer to is all-knowing and this would be the deity that created all angels, all life and all that is existence. Therefore, one has to accept the fact that this god created this angel to become this devil and that the description of him would be as it is.
    Now if he is not an all-knowing deity, allowing for "freewill" then he/she or it is not a god. The question then is mute.
    Now if this angel/devil existed how could scholars make a sex change and what evidence do you have, other than belief that such exists? But I am with you. I think that females should be as devilish as a male and, in terms, of the feminist agenda I think that females should be better at it than males and I guess that translates to a greater evil. Does that make you feel better. I feel better now knowing that what I surmised is true. Thank you for that.
