Those who would be save by their merits, and those who would be save in their sins. Here is the secret of their power.

The Churches power? If so, you might be right. But it is not a secret. The secret might be that the churches do not teach what saved means in the bible.

Churches prey on those who have low self-worth and the vulnerable among us.   Those who are self-aware, astute, and otherwise knowledgeable are not going to be persuaded by religious jargon.    Many people need religion because of the voids in their lives and they have been thoroughly indoctrinated with the premise that one must belong to a church in order to be worthy.

I am not sure about that in some churches they have well educated people with lots of money.  I can name a few.  catholic and Mormons.

I wouldn't say because people attend church they are uneducated or poor.

Most churches only look for one thing- those that will fill the collection plate.

I understand that they have to pay bills just like the rest of us.  I went to a church one time and they passed the collection plate twice when I realized what they were doing I got up and left.

The apostles set up house Churches. No mortgage on a flashy building, no bills, no egos, no organisational structure,....... What's wrong with that model?

tamronposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Their is nothing wrong with having church in someones home.  The only problem that I can see is a lot of people wouldn't feel Comfortable going to someones house.

I also don't have a problem with the church excepting donations.  I don't believe that "believers"the church should live in poverty.

I also think that God wants us and the church to prosper, so we can help those less fortunate.  Now I have seen misuse with funds by churches and this doesn't go unnoticed by God.

I also realize that there are scammers out their and they will suffer the consequences.

Times have changed since the apostle Paul there resources were very limited.  Now getting Gods word out to the public is limitless but it still cost money.

No - they are clearly looking for you, have found you it would seem.

Religion generally is for all those things that @Sir Dent describes and in those areas it is clearly useful - but people who are 'netted' at times of distress are being entrapped at times of least resistance, the guilt trip that is part of religion designed to keep them in.

They either put the old guilt trip on you or fill you full of fear.  I know this works!  I was raised a baptist a southern baptist at that!

We watched a film about the mark of the beast when I was a small child.  It scared the hell out of me!

Several years later I see grocery stores scanning grocerys  that just confirmed what I was taught in church.  I was so scared that the mark of the beast was coming out.  I refused to go anywhere and I was ready to go into hiding.

Funny ha!  Well it wasn't to me it parilized me.

Back in 90 or 91 the war broke-out I was at work when it was on the news.  Instantly I went into panic mode.  A watched it on the news for a few days.

I took a nap.  I woke up with the sound of helicopters and I imagine men sliding down on ropes then I could hear them talking with whatever devices they had.

It turned out it was just an air-boat.  This was what I was to believe was true.  Only because its easy to influence children.

Yes you can be brainwashed or programmed with fear by others that can inflict fear to you that can last a life time.

The real Church is looking for those who are broken, downtrodden, bruised and beaten by the world.  They include, alcoholics, drug addicts, adulterers, liars, thieves, murderers, etc. . .   These are the ones Jesus came to save.  Those who are in good health do not need a doctor, but those whoa re sick are in need of a doctor.

Any church that wouldn't except them is passing judgement A sin is a sin.  No matter what the offense.

Whether it is or is not a sin is open to debate. After all Jesus never spoke on the subject and we are not of Paul's Church. Whatever, I've seen enough on this forum to know that the vast majority of Churches happily accept the adulterers (aka divorced and remarried....Jesus words not mine) but would not countenance accepting the homosexual.

Sodom and Goria  when God warned them to quit men laying with men and women laying with women he was going to destroy the whole city.  I can't remember the couples name that was told to flee and never look back and she turned into salt.  Anyhow,God never changes what made him angry still does today.

They were warned to repent and stop what they were doing or be destroyed.  If they would have repent and stopped they would have been forgiven.

Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

The Bible says take the water of life freely meaning without cost.  This includes all people.

I will never think churches prey on people, most churches think, they have found some new light that mankind need, and offer it to them. But there is nothing new under the sun. Churches are hospitals, that people go to looking for healing. We are all sick, and if we go to the wrong hospital we will die.

Churches are businesses looking for clients just like any other business.  To stay in business, they must convince their customers that what they offer is worth the cost.  Telling people they need to be "saved" is a marketing tactic that has worked for centuries.

I would love to see all churches paying taxes. as they currently for the vast majority of cases - don't pay taxes.

And when in this hub we speak of "churches" - does that include Scientologists? Food for thought...

Churches have a hugs pre-occupation with third world countries and people in poverty.

    1. tamron profile image67
tamronposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The church its self does not have to pay taxes but anyone I mean anyone who gets paid by the church has to pay taxes.

Also if you get a nonprofit license you are closely monitored by the government.  If you get grants and such you have to show where the money is being spent.  So there is no free ride.  You constantly have to be approved for everything from the building code to housing and rehabs and passports to go on missions.

People got it all wrong specially when it comes to government grants.
