Gotta know what happens after death?

    IMO three theories....

    1) Christian/Moslem.... one life.... either Heaven granted by Jesus/Allah or condemned to hell.
    2) Budhist/Hindu.... reincarnation.... multiple lives before liberation.
    3) Atheists..... usually no soul... just body... it decomposes.

Which of these three theories gotta be true?

Not all Christians believe in Hell.  Universalists, (with Biblical evidence) believe that heaven awaits all of us.

Not necessarily any of them because the three options don't include any number of other "scenarios" that could be what happens.

You're right..... Can you add more scenarios?

Well, if these are your only options, just ask yourself a simple question - "Does it make any sense?"

      1. A god who decides if you live in perfect bliss or pain for all eternity?

      Not really making any sense.

      2. You do not really die - you just get reborn as a whole new person/rock/animal?

      Hmmm - not really.

      3. You die. End of story - the same as every single living thing. OK - they might get their molecules re-used or be "reborn" as something else, but they are gone.

OK - that one works for me. smile

I would go for... nothing happens after death.  Solomon says when (maybe it was David) when you die, you die.  Nothing happens, your conscious of nothing, you feel nothing want nothing wish for nothing have not thoughts etc...

Reincarnation I think is logical but I am not so sure that your "memory" of self awareness is attached to it.  Could come back as a rock or a shroud of dust.  Who knows, but ultimately it seems that death is just another step in the great make up of the Universe in which case, I would think that the only thing humans are really concerned with is "self awareness"

On the third option. I wouldn't say that atheist don't have a soul or believe in their soul or what have you, but yes, the body dies and decomposes.

      More or less, the one thing that you can expect is that you will eventually die.  And while I know my theory is not very compatible with atheist or theist alike;

I believe that life will ultimately come back again.  Don't know if it will be the same but when I think about the Universe and how all the properties for life were formed and since what is in the universe will always exist in the Universe, then it is likely that humanity will have it's place again.

Will I remember me, probably not but who knows. wink

You know, I think I was being very insensitive.  I know you just lost your friend. sad  If it helps you feel better about death.  Maybe it will help to know that statistically, according to doctors etc... that in death the average time passing between life and death is about 10 seconds or less.  And also that the body releases a chemical similar to the same chemical that is released in the female body after giving birth that makes you forget any pain at all.

Some have coined it the "mercy" chemical.  It's something that happens as a result of "shock" or an overwhelming amount of information that the brain cannot process so it shuts down and results in a state of bliss.

Just thought you might like to know.  So in the event you are traumatized about your friend, you can feel some comfort knowing that it is very unlikely that your friend suffered at all.  smile

You are too cute Jon and ask questions which are too intelligent for one so young.
One can die and merge with the Light or heaven or god.You do have a soul or your inner energy which cannot get destroyed. This can merge with the universal soul or all souls ,the super soul or god which is your true home.
If you have any desire or desires when you die you will come back in order to complete them.
Its due to desires that you are here right now. smile

And that is applicable to christianity. Those who think heaven is a place of enjoyment should imagine what their pleasures are. That could just be a sin. You deprive yourself here and think it is abundant there, you might just be disappointed. And when you can't catch your fun, it could just be a bore.

    I believe in a mix of 2 and 3.

I forget what it's called but there's some kind of scientific law that states 'energy can not be created or destroyed' it just goes from one form to another endlessly, and I figure that includes us too.

Even if (worst case scenario) you become worm food, you're going to be absorbed into it, and become part of it, or taken up by the roots of a tree, becoming part of one thing, and then in time becoming part of something else.

    Seriously?

Your disembodied consciousness hangs around for three days, then turns into light and is recycled. There are other choices though. 1) You can hang around here without a body and help out people with problems similar to the ones you left behind (purgatory). Lots of suicides choose this. 2) You can come back with a different body and no memory of the one you left at death, which is kind of like reincarnation (or IS reincarnation). 3) You can stay with God or Light or whatever you want to call it.

How do I know this stuff?

    I don't know! lol! big_smile

    - your body decayed by pests if you are burried
    - you keep flying in air if you are burnt
    - the soul gets recycled and you forget your last brith
    - After 100 years, no one knows if you existed unless you had a family tradition of "wall pictures of every family picture"

I believe in god but realistically, that is how far I can think.
