Seems to me that your question assumes that the matter and energy we are familiar with are the only possible states of existence. God is made of 'spirit', not matter or energy. He said so Himself in the Gospel of John.
We humans also exist partly as 'spirit'. It is the combination of matter and spirit that makes a 'soul', according to Genesis. Upon the death of the body, the spirit part of a person leaves the body and is consigned to an eternal destination- either heaven or hell.
Part of the faith of Christianity is to believe that God has always existed and never had a beginning. This is a challenge to our finite minds, which see everything around us as having a beginning and ending. As the eternally existent being, He is the creator of all else, including matter, energy and time.

      Wonderful answer, @Porshadoxus.

No, I never assumed that matter and energy were the only states of existence. There's also space and time. And, as you said, spirit.

God, to me, is perfect source of all, but He isn't these things.

I don't think there is such a thing as "no thing."  Things we can't see are still things!  God would not be a created object--He would be the creator of all objects.  He would not be a physical construct because He is a spiritual being, though He did make Himself visible as a physical "object" through the person of Jesus.  If there was a sort of "Big Bang" then God could have made that.  The only thing that could have existed before time is "no time" like you said--that is also called eternal.  God is eternal!  God's bigness is just too big to wrap our minds around and totally and completely understand.  I don't think God would be God if we could just figure Him out.  :-)

      Thanks, @Seek-n-Find. Delightful answer.

Are you saying that Jesus is God?

I suppose I've always thought of "things" as physical -- even space and time.

I like what you said about "no time" and eternal. Perhaps God came not before time, but above

If god is a consciousness, then of course god cannot exist as a thing other than a the physical quality of the mind itself. Meaning that if god were real then god could not exist in any other state than the mindself. I imagine that god is nothing more than a figment of the mind, and that when people speak of the word of the lord they are speaking of those whom have interacted with Mankind from a higher dimension of existence. If the deities we pray to and worship do exist if at all beyond the state of the mind, then they exist as transcendental beings of higher dimensions and parallel or alternate Verses, like that of the angels.
