What's the point if you don't correct ?
        pussy cat...
Can you tell us about the gender of god ?

This should be taught at school.

If a god exists, it shouldn't have a sex.  Something like that shouldn't even matter at that level.

    what matters ?

A being at that level wouldn't concern itself with a sex I would think.

i agree with Tim. God (if God exists), is genderless.

    "hermaprhodite"? yikes

Nothing physical, hermaphrodite is a physical condition so neither...and both. Or beyond male and female altogether. God is a spiritual entity, a wholeness of BEING so I don't see any limitation or constriction to sex.

I know religions consider God one or the other - Heavenly Father, Mother Goddess, Jesus, Mary, Isis, Gaia (is this considered female?), Zeus, on and on but that's just because we can't really think of God otherwise until we've "seen".

Ah, but zampano, you can ask such things, that's why we have imagination and that's why people experience things beyond just this reality. If you haven't experienced such a thing, still, you can imagine, can you not? After all, many have come up with totally bizarre concepts for books and movies!

But imagine that God is a She. That God is a Mother.
How would our nowdays perception of divinity be influenced ?
Knowing that in general, mothers have the sweet soothing role.
Would be religious human interpretations less cruel ?
Would religion be a motive to peace rather than war ?

    GODDESS WORSHIP
Although Adam, Eve, and a nasty serpent define images of origin in this culture, historical, mythological, and archaeological evidence indicates:
    •    a male-oriented view of divinity can claim only about 5000 years of history.
    •    female deities were worshipped at least 7000 bce, thousands of years before Abraham served as prophet of Yahweh, and some say as far back as 30,000 bce (based on Upper Paleolithic figurines, cave paintings, and other archaeological finds in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa).
The Goddess would have been thought of as the original creator (since this makes sense as a female role) and as patroness of sex and reproduction. These early social and religious structures, when acknowledged to have existed, have traditionally been dismissed as "fertility cults."

    TMinutposted 13 years ago

Yeah, why "dismissed" as fertility cults when YHWH told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply. No difference there.

It is written that God created the world (Universe) for his own pleasure for his/her pleasure it was made.  He is everything, Why would he not experience every pleasure from all prospectives.  And every sadness?  We can not tell God that he can not DO THAT because we believe that we should not.

God is God and we "aint"

This thread is intended for adults.
Nevertheless, if you expose your reasons (apart from those I'm thinking about), there is a chance that people who eventually come here find them fair enough.
In which case they will not contribute any further to this thread.

The question of God's gender always makes me think of an old George Carlin joke( or rant I suppose) in which he said something to the effect of: Yes, God, if he exists, is a man, because no woman could or would ever fuck things up this bad!

  24. profile image0
    sneakorocksolidposted 13 years ago

Man was made in his image, therefore he's in the male form but far from being a man.

    subwaysadieposted 13 years ago

Yes and no.  By simply labeling "God" you limit what truly is, but we as humans, in order to "understand" it, must first claim it, name it, and tame it.Once that's done, we shame it and blame it. I hope you get it:)

  26. underhiswings profile image61
    underhiswingsposted 13 years ago

God is Spirit and can manifest in human form at anytime.
God has both male and female characteristics.

One Name God is called is El~Shaddi and this means
"God~the many breasted one" or "God~the provider"

God is described by using many different names, titles and terms because we cannot fully say who God is with words. But we do our best I think.

Grasping the concept of infinity in a finite, limited mind...
Maybe we should talk about ways of improving our capacities and push the boarders of our limitations and ignorance further away.
If anyone feels able to tell us something interesting about this, please open a thread on the subject.
