Rituals, spells and Wiccan Ethics-”The Craft”

As usual curiosity got the best of me and I just had to know what all these myths or truths about Witchery and Wicca entailed. I wanted to see a magical witch with the ability to cast spells, or be one lol. lol

Obviously I am unable to, or my score here would be 100 lol

Anyways, some of you know I have a series of witchery hubs and one on the way.  My point is I won't ramble on here.

Just curious what myths or truths about Wicca have you heard, understand or believe?

    Lastly, written from a Wiccan witch's book of shadows;

Magic; can be defined as the change of any condition by ritual means - It takes focus, concentration, and tremendous desire. A ß of sorts and then we wait. Nothing happens and then as we wait poof! Our dreams materialize. We don’t know how, but can’t argue it did.

Any opinions or thoughts?;  Please don't get into huge religious debates over it.

    Thanks

    Kimberly

      Hi Kimberly,
      Ritual...

This is performed not just by wiccans, but by all religions.. What do you think people do in church?  They are using prayer as a form of spell incantation.

You dont actually need ritual to create a spell... if you think it, believe it could happen then it will.  It might not be today, tomorrow or the next day, but it will happen.

Be careful in what you wish for.  An example?

I knew a practitioner who wished for 10k.  He got his 10k.  He lost his limbs in an motorbike accident.. but he got his 10k.

      Define magick...

Black magick.. do harm to others (being spiteful is black magic, for example) but what goes around, comes around.  It is also about self gratification... wanting material things, self, self, self.  It is also about fear and to be powerful.. ego etc.

Grey magick - spells for the earth, for healing, for our fellow human being.  Sending well wishes to others is a form of grey magick, for example.

White magick - prays directly to God or Gods - whatever your view.  Thanking devinity for your life and love.  A White candle represents this as it is about purity.  It is about showing 'the light' your appreciation and that you are it's servant to do it's work.  God, the light, energy forms, higher consciousness, Mohammed, Shira, Krishna,Pan... whatever the label many think that it is the same source but different label or term.

So, the key to life, is about love, peace and harmony to you and those around you, whatever religion, creed or colour.  This is how I TRY to live my life, although sometimes I make mistakes ... I do try and learn by them x

p.s. this explanation is the basics

I found something for this thread that open wide the black cloud over Magical things and demonic things.

    1150 B.C.: medicine
Egyptian medicine splits into two basic schools. Empirico-rational medicine rests on the premise that fever, pain, or tumor is a disease rather than a symptom, but practitioners of this school charge such high fees that only the very rich can afford them. The magico-religious school of medicine relies basically on expelling demons or spirits and is popular because it is inexpensive.

I know that wiccans believe in the duality of life and worship the goddess as well as the god not as seperate entitys.  I also know that the wiccans believe in the creed "harm none".

They are like good witches there are others who consider themselves Pagans.  The fear of harming another is not as strong.

Lyrics you know I am waiting on this hub. I love how you present the others in the series.

For me the quote is about belief. You, like so many will do around the fire burn your hope or desire and you wait believing it will come true. It may not be today, tomorrow or for years to come but poof it will come. When it does it may blindside us as we may not remember the burned paper with the hope or desire written and sent to the cosmos in ashes and smoke but it does come because we believed.

I've been very fortunate in having known quite a few wiccans in my life. I've personnally witnessed some pretty amazing things perpetrated (rationality says the probability of what I witnessed being done by the other person as being exceptionally high). The most extreme example was a woman who, whenever she got upset it would dump rain. As soon as the spell started, in direct correlation with her rising temper, the clouds would move in. This was in an area very well known for its arid climate. Afterwards I would check the weather patterns and no rain should have occurred. This woman was a wiccan, but never remembered the episodes afterwards. I believe them to have been a side effect of her abilities.
The other thing worth mentioning is my favorite reed (law, comandment, whatever) of the wiccans: 'live your life or someone else will live it for you'. My own paraphrasing, sorry.

        Hello Smann,
I joined here about 10 minutes ago, and you are the first person I am writing to, so I hope I don't stuff it up!smile
My 15 year old daughter has been following wicca for the past 5 years now. I have bought her many books on the subject. She has set up a gorgeous table for all of her paraphanalia, including wands, crystal ball, crystals, ornaments of angels, and a whole lot more I cannot recall the names of just now.
Of course, helping her along the way has made me question my own spirituality. I am not affiliated with any one religion. There are some I can connect with and the ones I don't really doesn't bother me, even if we are constantly reminded of going to hell??smile
Anyway, my question to you is; we need allot of help, and we would love to meet some wiccans, pagans who would be willing to guide us so we may learn.
My daughter was born with a serious heart condition. I have 3 children, whom I have told all of them-;to learn different religions as you grow, as I believe spirituality is something you discover for yourself. My daughter has always believed in fairies, and because she has a bit of OC disorder, she really wanted to see and feel magic in her world. I told her magic was everywhere, but not the magic tricks she saw on T.V. Anyway, one thing led to another and after a while I noticed her energy levels built up, she seemed happier, and so very intrigued. Most everything she talks of is related to Wicca, and we both knew it was right for her.
Because of her learning disabilities (very mild, but there)-it is difficult for me to help her. I don't know of any groups here in Georgia, and haven't really found any chat rooms or people online we could talk to.
So I was wondering if you could help us. I understand that you may not want to take this on yourself, but if you could give us any information on where to begin, we would be most gracious to you.
        Sincerely,
        Lili7777

Mark from my experience everyone has their own beliefs.  I do not think any two people could agree on everything.

I have also found that people hang on to their beliefs like lifeboats.  Very unwilling to have them contradicted.

I guess that since beliefs exist within the mind they do come from inside.

Strictly speaking, not all Wiccans are witches. Some Wiccans call themselves witches but do not practice or advocate witchcraft in any way.

You can have Wiccan witches, Islamic witches, and even Christian witches. There are witches of almost every faith.

This is because Wicca is a religion, and it is not witchcraft.

Males who practice witchcraft are called witches as well, unless they feel the need to be called wizards, which some may view as more masculine.

I just wanted to clarify that Wicca and witchcraft do not walk hand in hand.

You are so correct Wicca and witchcraft do not go hand in hand. Just because someone is Wiccan does not mean they practice witchcraft. This is one of those misnomers about Wicca. People assume because someone is Wiccan they practice witchcraft. This is not necessarily true. What people do not realize is Wicca is an Earth based religion that is about living peacefully not about casting spells.

I am a Wiccan and I also cast spells. The spells are not of ill nature but of protection and clarity. So to say Wicca is not about spells is not all the way true. I believe it is about spells to lift us up and also about the divine way of how we life our lives.

Not all witches are Wiccans. Witchcraft is a practice. But "Wicca" is the Old English word for a male witch (female was "Wicce"). Wicca is defined today as "Neopagan Witchcraft," and therefore, all Wiccans, are, indeed, witches.

You do not have to practice spell-casting to be a Wiccan, but you do have to accept the reality of magic and the sacredness of the practice of magic. If you don't believe there's such a thing as magic, or if you believe it's morally wrong to practice magic, then I would say you are not a Wiccan.

I've been Wiccan for 30 years, btw.

it is my limited perspective, from my own readings of various belief systems, religions and philosophies, that witchcraft is focused on human ego oriented desires...instead of what I would call Divine desires for the benefit of all humanity not just one's personal desires...so that really doesn't make the Craft much different than too many of humanity smile

would you say that is so...? or is my limited reading been too limited?

YES, I THINK IT TOO LIMITED....one aspect is the rede...to put it in understandable terms...do no harm or it will come back to you under a law of 3. meaning 3x the harm returns to you. AS FOR FOCUS ON PERSONAL EGO... Wiccans focus on care of the earth, she is sacred and we want to protect all beings. That is not Ego oriented. i wont self promote but there are some great wiccan hubs that explain our committment to the world beyond ourselves, blessed be ~

I don't normally get into the forums. Too much animosity. This time , I'll give it a try because of the subject. Little background first. I married comparatively late in life, to an American woman who still takes my breath away after nearly 20 years. She was raised catholic, and even though I am in no way a Christian I attended mass and when our children were born I was happy to see them attend church and Chatechism class for the good values it taught. Over time they became influenced by my Heathen ways and now we are a Pagan family.
My wife is a solitary Wiccan, she honors the Goddess and invokes Her blessings on our home and hearth every day. I follow the spiritual path of my Welsh Druid ancestors. We celebrate the Solstices and Equinoxes as a family, we follow a way of life that is deeply spiritually satisfying to us all.
Yes, there is Magic in our lives. When you live your life a certain way, Magic unfolds into it.
The most common form of Magic that everyone experiences is Luck and Coincidence. The invocations and rituals that we practice bring those occurrences into our lives by design. Does it work?
We've been lucky so far. smile

You can be a wiccan without practicing magick or spells. you can also be a wiccan that does. I consider myself a wiccan and I do practice spells and magick, but they are all done to help others when they ask me to. i never cast anything without permission,I also try and do my part in helping out mother earth. I want it to still be here when my daughters have grown and have children of their own. I recycle as much as I can and I don't litter. Infact I am one that will see some form of trash in my path,( put there by another, and will pick it up to put it in a propper canister. It may not be much but this is what I do and I teach my daughters to do the same. No i do not teach them the ways of wicca because I believe everyone has the right to choose what religious path they want to follow. If they want to learn then I will be more then happy to teach.

          .
" Reject conformity, Love yourself and nature. Gaia who loves you can answer all questions for all people. Keep your hearts and minds open to adversity and the menderings of others. Deny impossibilites.

Wiccans embrace nature. They don't waste time brainwashing people with their religious s**t. Whether a person is ahamadi islamic or atheist they give rats behind to that, all they care is about gaia and forces of nature. Trust me, wiccans rarely get into arguments especially against islamics and if they do then consider they're pissed off and better keep some distance.

              1. No

              2. Gaia is the spirit of this planet. As per Greek mythology, she is one titan but her forces are not destructive. She defeated kronos once if i remember mythology correctly. Other than greek mythology & wicca, the way to perceive gaia is different for different cultures.

I respect them though I think the practice is a bad idea. If one looks to Magic for a solution I'm afraid they'll come up short. Perhaps witchcraft is a means to express oneself out of a need for something more then mainstream religions can offer. I wouldn't know.
