Do you believe all men are created equal?
They say all men are equal. I beg to differ, we may be equal spiritually, but I am sure our physical capabilities and intellectual capabilities will never be the same. Some people are just born gifted.
I think you're taking the phrase to literally. And the phrase is "All men are created equal". Not "all men are equal". Everybody has as much right to his life as you do. Of course people have differing talents and skill sets. That's not what the phrase is talking about. You hit it with your first observation in that we are all equal with regards to our nature. Each of us brings something unique to the table. Somethings attributes may be more marketable than others., But our individual human rights to explore our capabilities and talents should never be suppressed. I'm sure you have much greater physical capabilities than Stephen Hawking, but at the same time, are no match for his intellect. Equality is about opportunity, Nobody expects it to mean outcome.
Adagio4639 has explained it well. I concur with his answer entirely.
The term "equal" used in this sense refers to having the same "rights" to life, liberty, and (the pursuit) of happiness.
Individually people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and have various levels of natural abilities and talents that distinguish them from one another. Success can be had in many different ways.
Equality does not supplant individuality. Life is a personal journey.
@ abagio4639 All men are equal and all men created equal is just play on words. But my point is being brought across more if you say all men are created equal. No, all men are not created equal. Just as you mentioned when you spoke about the comparison to physicality and intelligence. We maybe equal in spiritual rights, food rights, humanitarian rights. Meaning all "should have the same opportunity. But that also is far from the truth. I do take the term literal but i may have a different understanding of the term. Probably in Gods eyes he created all humans with the common body structures which will allow us to survive on earth. But i doubt it goes further from there.
I think it's a significant difference. The word "created" is a qualifier. It tells us specifically what we're talking about. Leave the word out...and we don't know exactly what is meant. All men are equal in what respect?
Everyone is unique , and life works the same for everybody therefore this is equality to me.The energy you give is the energy u take.
no my friend, all life does not work the same for everybody. If so no one would be unique.
I'm not saying we have the same life,I'm saying everyone has different personality and is a unique soul, but how life works is the same,we are living in the same universe. The emotions people have are still the same,I'm gonna write something about this
The way I see it saying all men are created equal is the same as saying every person that is born has the same equal rights and should be treated equally by the law. These rights do not exist in and of themselves as a matter of birth, rather they were debated and put into place based upon philosophy and a natural sense of fairness and justice human beings (and some other animals) possess.
So the idea is that we want to treat everyone fairly, because we are all of different abilities, ages, genders, beliefs, backgrounds, etc etc.
I still don't think we've achieved equality for all human beings here in the USA or anywhere else and certainly not in the third world. It would be nice to think humanity might one day get over its obsession with money and set aside its petty differences to be united, and equal, as a species.
Think about it like this buddy, because I've been studying this sort of stuff full time for the last 3 years..Your question is a good question, but you can't ever know if we're all born equal unless you can work out why we're here..I'm pretty sure I know why we're here, & so to me everyone is born equal because that's the only way we could have been born....However when I say equal I mean: With an equal chance of getting from here--to there, & so it's a spiritual journey definitely nothing to do with fame & fortune etc....Even a handicapped person or someone killed in an illegal war is born equal, & has/will have their fair chance at life....As far as equal abilities, if we could all sing as good as Elvis there would have been "no" Elvis!lol..So you yourself do have God/self abilities just like everyone else could have, you just have to find a way of tapping into your sub-conscious mind like Elvis did..Or for another example Bruce Lee, he did the training to master the self & became enlightened..(anyone can do it, but it takes a lot of effort love & will power)..It won't make a person god, but means they can eventually ascend with their soul mate if they've found them..Elvis for example wasn't born to be Elvis, he created himself because he loved music & especially gospel music, & so he was helped along the way & did ascend (in my opinion) before his Vegas years. :-)
Hi clivewilliams,
All men or women are same is to be reviewed in particular context as each human being has equal rights. As each men and women has been sent to this world for specific time to serve in specific situation, which obviously one has not choiced. So each has separate situation therefore each each has different capabilities to overcome the difficulties faced.
If all men possessed similar physical and intellectual capabilities then almost majority of the person would not be possible to handle different situations in his life. In my opinion, all men were born equal but having different capabilities.
There is a saying that all of us ARE created equal. However, in reality & actuality, we are VASTLY different physically, mentally, intellectually, psychologically, even psychically. Some of us are wealthy while others are in abject poverty. There are those who are maddeningly gorgeous while others are grotesquely ugly. Some are prodigious genius with stratospheric intelligence while others are idiots with barely sentient intelligence. All of us are different whether we wish to acknowledge such or not. To believe otherwise is pure denial of the reality of life and nature.

Do you believe that all humans are created equal? The American "Declaration of Independence" asserted that all men [humans] are created equal. Do you believe that that assertion is true?Lately it would seem that some people's voices and votes receive greater weight than the voices...

Why does society try to make us all equal when we clearly aren't?This mentality is odd to me and I'm confused as to why we want to make everyone equal. Drug dealers, rapist, child abusers are not equal to honest people who try to live a moral life. There will always be some who are better and worse...

Same sex marriage - Equality or Not for gay people?Ireland recently voted 68% to 32% by referendum to allow same sex marriage, the first country in the world to do so. Is this true democracy at work? How do you view the decision - is it good for a whole country to be given the chance to vote on...

If all men are created equal aren’t we all just as fundamentally good?
