PS. Miss you Jerami, and the forum discussions. Hope all is well with you these days.
Most atheist don't hate religion, they just don't believe in it. What they hate (and even many people hwo believe in religion hate) is when people are forced to believe in a religion (of course, atheism in the USSR was not popular too, as people were forced to be atheists).
I think it's wrong to "brainwash" people into religion (or political or economic ideology), no matter if it's parents brainwashing their children or a government brainwashing it's citizens.
I don't hate religion. I have sometimes been callously cruel to those with too much enthusiasm for their beliefs, I have sometimes poked fun at the more ludicrous contradictions of some religious belief, but I don't hate. I actually think religion can be good for some people. Obviously it can also cause some really disgusting behavior, but I like to think that the good outweighs the bad. I sure hope I'm right about that!
I think anyone who really hates religion would have a very difficult time in this world. So many lovely people instantly disqualified from friendship, so much literature and art and music you'd have to avoid - I just can't imagine it.
I am an ex evangelist turned atheist and have been an atheist for the past 15 going on 16 years. I personally do not hate theism or theists for that matter. The only time I have a problem with religion is when it tries to force its doctrines and tenets on my personal life. When the church tries to twist the arms of Congress into making laws based on their religious views and ideas, then and only then do I have something to say about it.
I think that everyone is entitled to believe what they want as long as they don't try to impose their beliefs on everyone else.
What do you think has driven atheists to hate religion?
Hi friends
When the Atheist Agnostics find that they do not have any brilliant argument against the existence of the Creator-God Allah YHWH, they are not left with any option other than to be hate mongers.
This is my sincere opinion; other could believe differently out of their free will; but then they should present their arguments with reasons.
Thanks
I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim
Could you possibly be more insulting? We are hate mongers, now? Because we don't accept your doctrines?
No "Welcome Back" for you, pal.
If paara wants to know why we do not like religion, he only has to read his own posts!
LOL
Attacking atheists for not believing the utter garbage you believe is not peaceful Mr. Muslim. Thank you for showing your true self. Attack the Unbelievers!!!!
You are the one lacking reason Usmanali.
No evidence for Creator-God. None. That is reasonable.
I've seen a ton of arguments on both sides "with reason," paarsurrey... however, often people who have been given pretty sound arguments not in line with his/her own will take the attitude of, "but I will disregard that fine argument, fail to see another viewpoint, therefore I am still right and my way is the only way..."
Yikes - I think I do the latter sometimes, too lol
I know a few people who identify as Athiests and they've discussed some beliefs with me at length - as well as their irritation that they are often goaded into arguments about God, almost always with the theme of "you're wrong/crazy/going to hell" for not believing in God.
By contrast, when my Athiest friends have volunteered information as to why they believe what they do, they have pretty sound arguments for not believing in God. Sound, rational and calm arguments, too. Rarely do they say "because I have faith" on issues but rather, they say "because this is so for me and that is a scientific fact that has yet to be shown as false/wrong and these things make the most sense to me." Rarely do they mention the Christian God, preferring to mention what they DO believe or believe in rather than Christian principles they don't believe in.
I'm not sure what all Atheists hate religion at all. ALL of the Athiest friends I have own Bibles and are quite well versed in structure of Biblical chapters, narratives, etc. (not that I know ALL Atheists, of course - but the handful of Athiests I call friends are like this). As likely as a Bible on their bookshelves, tables and desks are books on Eastern religions, Greek mythology, Native spirituality texts, etc.
Sometimes I try to remind myself that what I see going on in the forums is only a small percentage of "believers" and "non-believers" who argue vehemently against each other... I suppose I'm very lucky that in real life - with the circle of real life friends and acquaintances I have, I don't see hardly ANY arguments on topics of Atheism, Christianity, various religions, cultural norms and traditions, etc.
I am born again spirit filled Christian and I hate religion too! God does not want mindless robots, he doesn't want His people to "have religion" what He has always wanted is a RELATIONSHIP with us. It's very simple, God is simple. He's our dad. Would your dad want for you to religiously serve him? Or would he rather you just love and respect him? God does not want for us to just believe in Him but to know Him. Not for us to just worship a graven image of who or what we think He may or may not be with a bunch of screwed up doctrines! God wants for us to know how very real He is and in that to have a relationship with him that transcends beyond doctrine and practice.
That's why He made us the way He did with freedoms to love Him or not, to love each other or not. Religion has nothing to do with that. When you love someone there is no religiosity about it, you just love, you know and you love. That's what our God wants and has from the beginning.
My father or any father I've ever known does not behave or have the same expectations as the Abrahamic god, not even remotely close.
Fathers love their sons unconditionally, God has many conditions. Fathers don't usually wield their wrath and fury against their sons if those expectations aren't met. God does indeed want mindless robots because if believers ever used their minds to think, they would come to the same realizations that gods and dads are not in any way similar.

God never lets people down, he may want something of you and you did not give it to him, therefore you are in the wilderness holding onto what god needs to get rid of, slowly you fall away and before you know it, you are outside the presence of god in you. And now all that is left is bitter hatred...

I'm an atheist, and even though I'm a generally good person (volunteer at an animal shelter, nice to people, generous, etc.), I've been told I'm going to hell simply because I don't take part in any religion. I'm really not trying to start a fight or argument, I'm really just curious- why are...

Why Don't Atheists Believe In God?

Why Do Religious People Get So Angry At Atheists? When it comes to Atheism, most religious people get angry and even combative when it comes to this subject. I wonder why, especially in this day and age, one would feel anger towards another human being with a different perception/outlook/belief....

Do you believe that some religious people are to blame for, more people becoming atheists?Maybe people feel as though they are not ever good enough not because of God but because of other people condemning everything and give up on pursuing to be "Good"

Why do religious people often insist that religion is what creates moral behavior? As an agnostic/atheist who works hard to do the right thing every day I find this insulting and ridiculous. After all, if prayer and religious beliefs equaled morals there would be no controversy with priests...
