Matthew Chapter 24-35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
no, haj....sending a slice of peace yor way....still searchin' i see...guess that's good.....hope you find it....find it in you....
More irrational quotes from a book out of date. How nice.
Do I fear the end of the world? No, because I do not fear death.
You done have to justify your fears to me. I know you fear death. You can tell your friends that hog wash, but we know the truth.
So, you are now again calling me a liar? How nice of you.
Man, you need to seriously get a grip. I have no fear of death. And, I always do my best to NOT LIE.
Got it?
It would appear that only the religious fear death. The rest of already understand that there is nothing to fear in the ceasing of existence.
As far as the end of the world? We can reasonably expect the earth to last several billion more years. I won't be here then, so why fear it?
Death is an unavoidable fact of life. To be afraid of something you CANNOT change is wasteful, why waste your LIFE fearing something you cannot control or change? Seems stupid to me
Very true ... And then again ?
Anything that is feared should be thoroughly examined.
I would want to be at peace with myself as to what I believed death to represent.
I personally believe that death is a physical term.
Spiritually and mentality is not of the spiritual realm.
So we just do not know much about this other dimension.
We just do not know of the things that we did not learn?
In other words.. Ya just don't know what ya don't know,
YA KNOW?
I think I got the gist of that
If the question was asked, do you fear wasting the precious gift of life you possess, then I would have to say yes. I just cannot honestly fear something that goes hand in hand with life, and is unavoidable for all life. Good or bad, someday you will die, it is natural. It is what happens before I die that can cause me fear, that I waste my life or that something horrible happens to cause me pain. Dying too, could be feared, that proccess where you know you will soon be dead but are not yet dead. That could be painful and frightening so I have some fear of that, but once I am dead? Na, that I don't fear.
I totally understand what you are saying here......... but. And I mean that in a big way, but....., when it comes to my son it's a whole other ballgame. I don't want him to die. The thought of him dying, terrifies me. The thought of him missing out on something, or not being able to live out his life to his full potential worries me. I want my son to have his 95+ yrs to live out his life. I don't want the end of the world to come, and take that from him.
It worries me. I try to be practical when it comes to not believing in that 2012 business. But in the back of my mind, I'm worried. The "what if" is too big of a gamble for me. Like, what if someone does something stupid, just to make a disaster happen on 2012 for the fun of it? We do have some pretty sick individuals out there in this world. I'm more afraid of the wack-a-doodles making something happen on 12/21/12 than some prophecy being played out. I generally do not believe in prophecy, but, with all the hype surrounding this 12/21/12 "Mayan calender" date... I'm scared. I'm scared some long lost "Mayan" wack job is going to do something stupid.
Am I making any sense?
I just worry for my boy. Too much I'm sure, but, it is what it is.
Yeah, I have to agree with Cags. I don't fear death either.
But its weird, I fear death for my child. So essentially I do fear the end of the world, because I fear that my son will not know what is it to kiss his true love, to go to college, to buy his first car, or to smile at his first born child.
So yes- I do fear the end of the world, and ultimately death for my son. I want him to live, and be able to live life to the fullest.
I think it is very natural to fear all sorts of things for our children, I just think generally they don't happen. The world moves slowly.
death is an enemy, so i do not look forward to it, i do not fear it though
Sometimes "end of the world" is a bit strong. Add "as we know it" and you are closer to the Mayan truth. Remember: Apocalypse means "lifting the veil" It doesn't mean world destruction.
According to most religious fanatics the world has been going to end hundreds of times over thousands of years and their still at it!
I actually remember the first time I came across people telling me the world was going to end.
In 1997, I read Nostradamus because it's predicted end of the world was May 5, 1997 which happened to be my birthday so I was a bit worried.
I asked my dad about it and he goes, "They have been saying the world is going to end for as long as I have been alive, don't believe that stuff."
Second time, 2000.
Third time, 2012.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
=========================================
No one knoweth the day or hour but this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled.
He was talking to that generation 2000 years ago.
Evidently he wasn't talking about what everyone thinks?
Everyone has a misconception of what he was talking about.
Just as the Sanhedrin had a misconception as to how the Messiah would enter into the world. And what was to happen.
All prophesy concerning the end of Days except for Rev. 21 and 22 was not talking about the end of the world. And that too just might not have been either.
I don't fear the end of the world, but I do fear my children would live/die in THE BIG FINALE! It's a scary thought!
That's the whole purpose of religion, is to take the fear out of dying.
If this was true, there would not be so much fire and brimstone preaching being thrown out of pulpits around the world.
Many perfectly ordinary, blameless human beings live in fear of being sent to hell when they die because of some imagined sin or because they have not been 'saved'. No wonder they are scared of dying - the concepts of the second coming, the rapture and eternal retribution are some of the most 'unchristian' and unloving beliefs that I have ever come across.
I don't think that is the whole purpose Paul, however, I do think that is a BIG truth to a lot of it. I mean, that is one factor as to why I believe. But I disagree that it is religion's sole purpose. There are too many other angles to religion, like for instance, religion provides a sense of belonging. So essentially religion fills that void for people, just as much as it provides "comfort" that there is an afterlife.
There is no pain or fear in Death itself...
It is those final steps that we have to take before we walk through that passage, that I fear.
Is that going to be long and painful, or swift and peaceful?
The unknown can be fearful if we allow it to be.
I think that Paul Wingert's last comment might be correct in this respect.
- the concepts of the second coming, the rapture and eternal retribution are some of the most 'unchristian' and unloving beliefs that I have ever come across.
=====================
And in order for these concepts to be arrived at; we have to play a word game with what is actually written.
Concerning the great tribulation and the second coming??
I choose to believe those words that are written.
" "VERILY" I say unto you; "THIS" generation shall not pass til all these things be fulfilled".
Is it possible that we have a misconception as to what he was talking about that would be fulfilled during "THAT" generation.
People focus on the "No one knows the day or hour part of this story and totally ignore the "THIS GENERATION" part of it.
He could as easily have said; "It will happen this century but no one knows exactly when. So be ready today".
But religion tells us that he was talking about WHAT EVER century that see these things happening.
Everything that Jesus foretold in this private conversation with Peter, James, John and Andrew did in fact happen to That Hebrew people that lived in the first century!
This also would fall in line with the 70 weeks as described in Daniel chapter nine.
When I examine scripture from that prospective, It makes much more sense to me!
I fear that my fave chocolate bar will go out of production one day, never to be seen again in the light of our days.....let us pray!
Nice Waynet. Very, hm how shall I put it... "Elitist," of you.
Okay????
So one of your perks is to...........
You know what nevermind. I can see by other forum posts you've made today that you are very antagonistic right now.
Now if that is one of your "PERKS", since you clearly think you are above the rest of us, I think maybe I need to move along.
I'm not here to be bullied by a HubPages Elite member, and didn't come in here to be bullied by a HubPages Elitist either.
So I'll leave YOU, Waynet, to your PERKS.
By the way, you've lost a fan.
Yay! I'm a rebel! They may be getting rid of the Elite icon soon, I think so I won't be labelled as an elite...sorry for any offence caused I do apologize... had a bit too much red wine for my celebration tonight!
And really, life's too short for being serious about many threads of discussions that people put up on here!

How do you feel when someone talks about death?Death to me is an inevitable end to all life, but others look very overwhelmed when I mention death or dying. I'm not necessarily talking about my own demise, but sometimes during a general conversation about life.

If you read the scriptures, especially the New testament, reference upon reference mention that in time, one day, God will call His children to Himself. So, is that time near, is Revelations going to take place soon?
