Really looking forward to football season as well.  Our Stanford season tickets came in the mail last week.  I'm training the girls up.

This year has been a breakthrough season on getting my kids to watch baseball.  So, if I can get them to watch baseball, football has to be easier:)

Hey prettydarkhorse, well you are going to have to wait until Sunday night September 9th to watch the Steelers tame some Broncos.

But it all starts this coming Wednesday night with the Cowboys @ Giants. Personally, I think the Super Bowl Champion Giants and Eli Manning are going to be singing some Cowgirl songs, besides scoring a lot of points and not giving up that many.

Eli's big brother Peyton isn't likely to fare so well.

I'm predicting the Jets will beat the Bills and the score will be 2-0. Tim Tebow, playing linebacker, will sack Fitzpatrick in the end zone.

I got the Bills Fred Jackson and Stevie Johnson on my fantasy team, but I'm probably not going to play either one of them because I think the Jets will shut them down, especially Johnson.

I have Steve Johnson as well and I knew it was going to be a hard pick for me but I had to take him. I hope for the Jets Revis and Cro shut his a** down. And from your mouth to the football gods ears let Tebow become a linebacker or any other position except of course starting QB.

But right now Im thinking of how Eli and the Giants are going to whoop some Cowbells tomorrow night. .

Yea baby Im ready for some football!

You know, I noticed that the ladies who play fantasy football are even bigger smack talkers than the guys.

What fantasy football does is get you all jacked up for other games that don't involve your favorites.

Giancarlo, The Cowboys have a good team, but as long as they have Romo under center, they will never dominate the strong teams. The Cowboys should have went after P. Manning

    1. GiancarloLorenzo profile image67
GiancarloLorenzoposted 12 years agoin reply to this

All Romo needs is a head coach and a defense that doesn't give up 100 pts in the 4th quarter.

      1. Alphadogg16 profile image79
Alphadogg16posted 12 years agoin reply to this

I definitely agree with the head coaching part, as for the defense, front 7 is decent, its kinda hard to stay effective when your on the field 75% of the time. I know your a fan, but a lot of that falls on Romo. He has a tendency to make bad decisions when the game is on the line.

        1. GiancarloLorenzo profile image67
GiancarloLorenzoposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Romo was responsible for 32 of the Cowboys 36 TDs last season.  He only had 10 interceptions.  He had a QB rating over 100.  He had a QB rating in the 4th quarter near 100.  I don't know what more you expect him to do.  Romo isn't what is holding this team back.  Paying 20 million dollars to damaged goods and taking a 20 million dollar cap hit in order to release Romo isn't gonna help this team.  The Cowboys didn't have near enough cap room to acquire Peyton.

          1. Alphadogg16 profile image79
Alphadogg16posted 12 years agoin reply to this

He's the Quaterback, the offense runs thru him, so he's suppose to be responsible for a high percentage of his Teams TD's. You want to give him credit for doing something that's expected of him? Look at Romo's stats vs teams that are above .500 or his division rivals, particularly the Eagles & Redskins. I'm not saying Romo his horrible, he does some good things, but 7 out of 10, he chokes in the clutch. With all the weapons the Cowboys have, there is no excuse for them to have won 1 play off game with Romo under center. And no matter how you look at it, Manning is one of the greatest QB's ever & is worth the risk.

            1. GiancarloLorenzo profile image67
GiancarloLorenzoposted 12 years agoin reply to this

It is not a QB's responsibility to account for 88% of his teams TDs.  The Cowboys rushed for 5 TDs last year, and one of them was Romo.  That was the worst in franchise history.  And no Cowboy team has made the playoffs in its franchise history with less than 10 rushing TDs for the entire season.  So if Romo wasn't putting TDs on the board, the Cowboys weren't scoring TDs.  How in the hell do you expect him to account for everything?  The QB isn't supposed to be solely responsible for every TD.

Romo has a 100 QB rating vs. the Giants, a 90 QB rating vs. the Redskins, and a 78 QB rating vs. the Eagles.  Yet he's 6-6 against Philly, 7-6 vs. Washington and has a losing record at 5-7 vs. the Giants.  Hmmm.

Romo has a QB rating 85 or higher vs. 25 teams in the NFL.  The teams he doesn't are Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Denver, Philly, Jacksonville, and New Orleans.  He has never played Jacksonville, he has only played Pittsburgh, Denver and Baltimore once.  I guess when the Cowboys won in New Orleans in the Superdome when the Saints were 13-0 and the Cowboys were playing for a playoff spot, Romo choked then too.

The Eagles give him the most problems.  Mostly when Jim Johnson was still alive.  Ever since Jim Johnson died, he has played much better against Philly.

Romo supposed to win more than one playoff game with Wade Phillips as head coach and Jerry Jones as GM?  Seriously?

And what weapons you speak of?  Jason Witten?  That has been Romo's only reliable weapon.  Miles Austin is always hurt.  Dez can't run routes.  When they had T.O., he caused nothing but drama, and in the playoff game, he was 75% at best because he hurt his ankle.  7 out of 10 times?  That's just made up.  The media blows the Cowboys' failures out of proportion.

How can they afford Peyton?  This isn't baseball.  There is a salary cap.  Besides the fact that Cowboys didn't have the cap room space to sign Peyton anyway, they would take a huge cap hit if they released Romo.

              1. Alphadogg16 profile image79

Ok, I get it, your a die hard Cowboy fan, which is good. I like that.  The bottom line is he doesn't win when it counts. Your making excuses for him. Tom Brady defense's have been mediocre at best, but he wins titles. Peyton has never had a good defense, but he covered that up for years & won a title. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc, they win when it counts.

Irrational?  I made legitimate arguments.  Irrational is saying things like Romo should be cut, or the Cowboys will never do anything with Romo under center, or that the Cowboys should have went after Peyton Manning without even considering the ramifications of a cap hit or salary cap space.

So all you can do is come back with ad hominems?  I criticize Romo quite often.  Your statements were completely off base and are based off nothing but media perception.  I don't care if you think I'm making excuses for him.  I made valid arguments.  I criticize Romo when he deserves it.  Romo is not what is holding this team back regardless of what you think.

Peyton is Peyton.  He is better than Romo.  So is Brady, Rodgers, and Brees.  I don't see your point here.  I never said Romo was as good as them.  I said top 10-15 QB.  I never said elite QB.  You can't hold Romo to this elite standard, but at the same time say he's a choker.  Of course he's a choker, if you are holding him to some elite standard.

Lol! So its media perception that Romo has been the QB in Dallas since 05, Starting QB since 06 & he's won 1 play off game?? QB has been the Cowboys achilles heel since Aikman retired. As far as Peyton, I understand the salary cap,  but the NFL is a business. You take that hit when the rewards will be greater. So you can build a 15 billion dollar stadium but you cant take a cap it and a better chance at a world championship??

      Sniffle, sniffle.

Peyton was awesome but the Steelers should have won the game.Too many missed opportunities. Big Ben made 3 really bad plays. Twice the Broncos totally blew pass coverage and we had wide open guys for a touchdown but didn't get one. In the 1st half Heath Miller wide open in the end zone but Ben didn't loft the ball enough and it was batted down. Then in the 4th quarter nobody is covering Mike Wallace and he is way past everybody but Ben doesn't see him. And with a little over 2 minutes left and with the Steelers still having a chance to win, Ben throws a dumb pick 6.

Now we have the Jets. If they play like they did against the Bills, the Steelers could be in trouble. I'll chalk that one up to the Bills being that bad rather than the Jets being that good.

      1. wavegirl22 profile image41

It was a complete performance by the Jets Sunday where the offense fed off the defense, which also fed off special teams. If this is the type of Jets team we will see consistently, then perhaps the Jets are better than most thought.

Time to state the obvious: the REAL circus last few months in NY has been the media's coverage of the Jets, not the team. Next up the Steelers. And right now my only concern for this game is the fact that Darrelle Revis sustained a mild concussion Sunday, the New York Jets announced this morning that his status for this Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is uncertain.

You will see Tebow that is for sure. Just like we saw him in the first play of the game. Special teams and for whatever and whenever needed. But right now Sanchez is the QB and if his line keeps protecting him like they did on Sunday you will see more from the NY Jets starting quarter back. Enough said.

As for Steelers this week, Ben Roethlisberger will certainly be a big early season test for the Jets, especially if star cornerback Darrelle Revis isn’t ready to return from a mild concussion.

are you serious Paul? You are worse then the NY media. While Sanchez did not have the best day yesterday, from your comment I am thinking you missed the news on week 1 against Buffalo.

The Jets basically blew out the Bills in the opener without Tebow, then lost Sunday without him contributing significantly. He didn't make an appearance until 8:39 remained in the third quarter. He gained 22 yards on his first play and handed off to Joe McKnight for 12 on the next snap. But when Shonn Greene was thrown for a 6-yard loss on the next play, Tebow was sent to the bench. He didn't return.

Sanchez had a bad game  . .he is the Jets QB and like Rex I believe in Mark.

Funny but NY Jets fans were not screaming for Tebow yesterday, more like wishing one of the WR's would catch the ball, Keller was missed to to make momentum plays and  losing the physical battle all day to the Steelers was not easy to watch. Revis was missed.

But is the Jets answer to yesterdays loss, Tebow, I think not.

Best part of football 2nd week in the NFL was of course the New York Giants stunning victory and the Carolina Panthers beating the New England Patriots l

Say what you want about Sanchez. Lucky for you you are not a Jets fan. I hate the circus Tebow has brought to NY. He sells tickets and your comment is proof of that. The Jets lost to a hungry, talented Steelers team and there is no shame in that and this loss is certainly not to be put on Sanchez shoulders alone.

Gang green surely does not need nor want the controversy that making Tebow the starter would create when this team has the potential to do something special this season. Unless the Jets start losing to inferior teams and you can blame it all on Sanchez is the only time that Tebow starting should even be a conversation.

It will be interesting to watch how Rex,Sparano and Mike Westhoff use him. I think Westoff is the one most excited to have Tims talent on the team. Punt protection at its finest which does offer the Jets a huge threat.

      .

  23. Paul Edmondson profile imageSTAFF
    Paul Edmondsonposted 12 years ago

I don't have anything against Sanchez.  He's just very average, and he doesn't excite me like Tim does.  If Tims the starting QB, I'm watching every Jets game.  Tim is way more erratic.  He's absolutely terrible ( a good percentage of the time), but has the knack of somehow being close enough to win.  The looming disaster, and unimaginable comebacks made last year one of the best seasons ever.

If it's not with the Jets, I hope he gets another opportunity to be a starting NFL QB while he can still run.

    1. wavegirl22 profile image41
wavegirl22posted 12 years agoin reply to this

I know you dont have anything really against Sanchez, but as you know me and even have witnessed me watching a Jets game, I can be very sensitive. The media in NY is constantly making this a conversation and its hard to let a hit on Sanchez go without sticking my 2 cents in. Tebow is erratic for sure and he is not who the Jets have invested in as their guy. We all know Woody brought him in not to play but to play to the media and sell seats and shirts.

The Tebow trade unfortunately secures the Jets as the newspaper champions of the century. Its time to bring Tiffany home to replace that notion.

Wavegirl, it is a circus bec of media but I like to see Tebow proved his skills. That last pass which he did caused the Steelers that big loss last year. He has potential. I bet he has improved a lot. smile

Wavegirl, is that the same Tiffany you are talking about who makes the Vince Lombardi Trophy?

I watched the Giants last night on NFL Network. Dang, that was an exciting game, even though I knew the outcome. Thursday night should be very interesting.

So prettydarkhorse, the Steelers are going to the Black Hole to battle the Raiders this Sunday. I know you can't wait, but are the black and gold going to kick some silver and black butt, or what?

Yes the Lombardy Trophy is made by the famous jeweler Tiffany's none other then America's house of design since 1837. I use the reference Tiffany as coaches around the league always refer to the trophy as Tiffany. You know the big dance and whomever wins gets to bring her home!

Maybe one day you will stumble upon the day I met her myself wink Of course I wrote a hub about it!!

As for the Steelers this weekend, after my distate for the Patriots the Raiders are next on that list!

Well wavegirl, I definitely will check out that hub about Tiffany, if I can find it. It wasn't the one about butts was it? But . . . the Steelers should have danced with Tiffany a few more times than the black and gold did.

I just submitted my hub on the Steelers @ Raiders. I really tried to tone down the negativity directed towards the Raiders. I hope a hub with just two words is okay. Raiders suck!
