What's up with the Edit Bots and can I disable them?
I really dislike the edit bots. They are making corrections mostly to my comments section, and I think it is making my hubs sterile, lifeless, and without color. Also, what if I am trying to employ slang or write in vernacular English for effect, and the edit bot corrects this into some dull and boring dronespeak. There - you see dronespeak is not a word, and I'll bet the bot will edit it out. Does anybody like this?
Mel - my cellphone does the same thing when I type in a text message. If I don't proof read the message before I hit the send button I can send out some pretty stupid stuff. I assume there is a way to turn this off but I can't find it.
But then this could be something the PC police are encouraging us to use so we avoid using those words they want removed from the dictionary. The latest word they want us to stop using is "He". I'm afraid many of us here on hub pages are too old to learn a whole new language without bots correcting our improper word usage.
Thank you Mike. I don't like machines changing my words or the words of others. It seems sinister.
Mel, I have mixed feelings about the "Bots" showing up on my account listing (I don't like the actual robot figure.) When I began looking at the corrections, I was relieved that typos were fixed (Teh was changed correctly to the).
However the two complaints I have are similar to yours; I make up words and use them in context that gives them life. I do not want my new words to be "bot-corrected" . And, likewise, the "Bot" is spending time in the comments section which I really do not like - those are someone else's words, misspellings and made up words. A passionate person's misspellings give a new level of meaning to the words.
I have also noticed that the scores of my articles have not changed as a result of this improvement...if it came with a benefit, I might be a little more comfortable with the typo fixes, but I really don't like taking responsibility for correcting other people's words, nor changing my new words.
Kathy
I was hoping someone could tell me how to turn it off too, almost 70% of my hubs had that robots
I have yet to encounter these mysterious bots and I hope I never do.
I agree that some of the writers I most enjoy will use words in unusual ways and play with words and grammar for effect. Please, bots, let them!!!
Also, it's just too delicious when someone goes on a rant in a comment and there are typos. Totally embarrassing when that someone is us, of course, but that should just teach us to proofread our comments, right?
Mel - I dislike the EditBot feature, too--especially in the comments section. When a reader spontaneously responds to one of my hubs, I don't believe that person's comment should be edited for grammar. I've never seen that done anywhere before. Maybe the FB editors don't have enough to do or just want to practice editing! Still, that's not a good excuse for editing comments.
Some edits take the life out of writing and make it sterile. FB Admin. doesn't seem to know that authors generally have a choice (even in traditional publishing) of accepting or rejecting specific edits. Every writer has a unique "voice" and has the right to maintain it. I've read collections of letters by one of the greatest editors ever, William Maxwell (forty years with The New Yorker), and he routinely sent suggested edits to authors and always gave them the final choice, a practice the publisher allowed. Why does FB get to act as though its editorial team is omnipotent?
If anyone discovers how to "turn off" or otherwise get rid of the dreadful EditBot, please let me know!
I dislike the fact that HubPages feels free to change our work without our knowledge. I would welcome suggested corrections, but leave my hub alone until I have a chance to review the suggestions.

Happy Thursday, everyone! In August we pre-announced a new tool that fixes common spelling and grammatical errors across the site. Today, Editbot, the first iteration of the tool, is live on a small percentage of Hubs and their comments. It will be gradually rolled out to all Hubs over the next...

Since this feature was deleted, HP staff have told us that this would be reinstated. It does not matter to all of us, but I know that in my case the readers find it very helpful. A former staff member told me last year that this would become a reality in June of 2021. That did not happen. If it is...

Did you opt in or out of Hub Pro?Hub Pro is HubPages efforts to edit our hubs and bring up the quality of the whole site. I chose to allow my hubs to be edited. I'm not saying that is what anyone else should do or that I did the right thing. I just wanted to make an observation...

Well I have done it. Over 600 hubs cleaned of the wounds inflicted by Editbot and the Bandaids posted all over my hubs to conceal the unfixed 'errors?@$5^'. No more bot robot symbols on my profile - Ahhh it is so nice.Membership is free and open. Join us in being Cleaned and Healed in the...
