    They can be, yes. Especially games that offer a sense of achievement, i.e character development online games.

    I started playing agame called Outpost II before I got married and found myself not wanting to do anything else.  This was just a single player game and nothing like the MIOGs of today.  I have seen many articles covering the compulsive behavior developed by playing World of Warcraft and devoted a hub to computer addiction, available at - http://dumbledore.hubpages.com/hub/Comp … Safeguards

    yep there are many games that are very addictive and take up a lot of your time without even knowing it. I used to play online but after a while i realized i was wasting too much time on the machine so now i only play missions and never go onilne.
