   Some in Maine and Canada were excellent and one of them gave a real sense of loneliness all by itself on a little islet, but the one in St Augustine, Florida was tall and had the best views plus a resident ghost!

   I actually visited the one in St. Augustine FL but I declined traipsing to the top - I have an uncooperative knee. Also checked one out in Maine - Whaleback lighthouse and on the NH side Portsmouth. I adore lighthouses and the romance of them. Which was a lot of hardwork.

      You had some good experiences then. Yea, St Augstines gave me vertigo. It is some cardio work climbing the twisty stairs.to the Pilot House..

      I did enjoy St.Augustine and there's alot to see in that town. I'm also not crazy about heights either. But lighthouses do have a flair about them - even in their isolation.

   I have visited so many, I wouldn't even venture to count them. Most of them have been Maine.  I have been to the usual ones, Portland Head, Bass Harbor Head, and West Quoddy Head (the eastern most point in the continental U.S.) and many others that aren't frequented as often by tourists.  I have been to lighthouses as far north as Prince Edward Island and as far south as the California Lighthouse in Aruba.  I have been to lighthouses on the Great Lakes (Presque Isle Lighthouse in Erie, PA) and as far west as Hawaii.
   My favorite lighthouse is Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on Mount Desert Island in Maine, near Acadia National Park. (See the attached photo).
   While you can sleep in one of the lighthouses on PEI, my wife and I would love to live in one.  If you'd visit, 'we'd leave the light on for you.' ;-)

   I visited the Cape Hatteras lighthouse before they moved it inland. I did go to the top. I could hardly breathe when I got to the top, but no matter, the view would have taken my breath away anyway!
