Is America the Greatest Country in the World?
Well I have a hub on this question, but I thought I'd throw it out there for others too.
Best wishes!
Depends on the person, I think most of the Americans will probably come up to proudly say YES!
It was, for a short period. Up to the "civil war" (aka the "War Between the States" or the "War of Northern Aggression"). It has been on a steady decline since -- increasing central government meddling with and taxing its own citizens, increasing meddling in other countries, and increasing participation in wars. Now it is just another semi-socialist, semi-fascist country just like all the others, albeit temporarily the most powerful one. There are many advantages and attractions to being in the U.S., but also many disadvantages.
Depending on their life situation, many other countries might be a better fit for many people.
I know that if I had a bit more money and didn't have personal attachments in the U.S., I would be out of the U.S. in a New York minute.
Bottom line, it is no longer a clear-cut "yes" answer.

Yes, of course America is the greatest!
We are closer than we've ever been to losing that prestigious title, though. And, until this economic situation is resolved our future won't be clear.
Yes! I love America! Where I live in West Virginia, life moves at a slower pace, people believe in helping each other. You better believe if we hear of something someone needs, they will have it in short order, if at all possible. We just bought a turkey for a nice lady who wanted to have her children over for the holidays, but couldn't afford all the trimmings for the meal. We could barely afford it ourselves, but we had more than most.
America is a free country where we all can reach for our dreams and have a chance to do all the things we wish to do. I often tell young people, live right, be honest, follow the law, set goals and go for it! I am a "pull yourself up by the boot straps" individual myself. I have seen some really hard times. I have been up and I have been down. Because I live in America I believe in second chances. If you apply yourself, you'll get to where your going. Even if you don't get there, the journey will be exciting. You never know what's around the next curve or just across the mountain. There are many places in the world, where you are not even free to go look over the mountain.
We are a great nation and a better people, because we have freedom. Freedom, has a price, like everything has, and it is one that I will gladly pay. I will pay my taxes, follow the law and love my country. I am an American and I'm real proud of it.
If you compare America against other countries in the world which clearly aren't doing as well as America in wealth and education yes America comes out on top. However if you compare America to the standards it set for itself then we have to wonder just how great America truly is. Health care for all Americans? Corruption in government. No jail for people who are truly wealthy, etc.

What ways is America the greatest country in the world? Or do you contend that America isn't the greatest country in the world-why? Why not?
