Actually looking at the site in more detail I now realize that there are around 400 hubs that have been copied.

This kind of thing depresses the hell out of me....

ServeDome Internet Services hosts this blog. You can send a DMCA takedown notice to abuse@servedome.com

      I hope it works.

      Best Regards

I emailed servedome earlier today and I've just received this reply which doesn't tell us a lot.

The website: wikiwheels.com isn't hosted by our organization anymore.

Have you sent an email to the HP Team? If not, please do so they are aware.

I sent an email to team@hubpages.com hoping it was the right address.

If anyone wants to examine the site, the easiest way is to start at http://wikiwheels.com/page/1/  the pages run to at least http://wikiwheels.com/page/190/.

After several hours, I just made it to the end of the last page of stolen content... page 229!

Just sent a blunt email to abuse@servedome.com. Indulged in a little polite abuse myself.

None of my work has been stolen - yet - but that is not the point. Other people's work has been, and that impacts on all Hubbers.

Thanks for emailing me about my copied hub on this site JSAlison - I will certainly try and get them to take it down. Sorry to hear of all the problems that you have experienced from this site copying your hubs.

It is becoming almost a full time job to chase all these up!

Wow... that is the one thing that really bugs me about the web (besides cyberbullying)... it's so easy to rip off other people's content with no consequences.

Dumb question but if the author was given full credit on this crap site would it make any difference to us ?

I agree with other comments it's a pretty rough looking site with little or no original thought behind it and I can see no reason for it's existence.

Let's hope the action already taken will have some results but I wouldn't depend on Google taking action unless they get threatened with a law suit or inundated with thousands of complaints.  If they're making money out of the site they'll ignore us unless we use naughty words... and even that is automatic !

      1. travelespresso profile image69
travelespressoposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yes it would still make a difference even if the author was given full credit.  People just can't help themselves to an article and post it where ever they like.

As the author and holder of copyright, you should have a say where, how and when your article is republished.  There are some places I don't want my work to be associated with.

If articles are stolen, HubPages will probably find it at some stage and then your hub will be marked copied.  You then have to find it and get it removed.

I can understand your skepticism but google doesn't want these kinds of websites in their index and they say so here. Also, there is no advertising on the website so they are not making money from it.

I'm pretty confident they'll get rid of it in their index.

  7. CMHypno profile image82

I have emailed Chereska.net which looks like it might be hosting the site to tell them that wikiwheels contains a lot of copied content, asked them to try and get it removed and close down the site if they won't comply.

I'm not holding my breath, but climb every mountain and all!

  8. skisy profile image89

As annoying as it that they've been copying content, I can't see the point in this site at all. The format is terrible for the type of content, it needs to be categorized not just listed like a blog, doesn't even have a custom search feature from what I can see. As it is it also stands little to gain from any content, so I'm yet to see why they've bothered to copy content.

A domain name like wikiwheels.com could actually be used for good quality high traffic site, so it's a shame it's been wasted on that sort of activity.

  9. Bill Manning profile image68

Looks like a site just thrown up there, still says "just another wordpress site" as the tag line. lol

Chances are it is very new and every article is just a scraped hub or article from all over the web, often by RSS feeds.

These are a dime a dozen, chances are there are hundreds more of these by the same person. Contact the host and I'm sure it will be taken down.

I never bother with them, for every one you find there's a hundred more with your content on it. roll

I wonder what Wikipedia would think about them ripping off their format, logo look etc?

I've reported the site to google. Hopefully they will remove them from their index pretty quickly.

Also, if you go to a particular article on wikiwheels you can leave a comment. I did and let them know that we know wink and that their site has been reported.

I give up getting links. Basically, everything on this site comes directly from a Hub.
Some of them still the Related Hubs capsule and comments with them.

Yes, I noticed that.  There are even references to Hubnuggets!  They've made absolutely no attempt to hide HubPages references.

No, the fairy charms hub is the only one spotted so far - I left a comment, which probably wasn't approved and emailed what looked like their web host, but not holding my breath on this one.

This is what I sent to serve dome. Hope it helps. Bed time down here. Will check in tomorrow to see if any action.

I am writing to lodge my complaint and absolute disgust at the site wikiwheels.com.
It would seem that every single post (200+ pages of them) have been stolen from hubpages.com. In most cases, the thief, posting as Turning Wheels of Wiki, has not even bothered to remove the proof of the thefts!
As the host of this site of spam and thievery, I trust that you will do the right thing and remove wikiwheels.com from your server. Should you choose not to take action, the matter will be taken further by the copyright owners of the stolen content currently being harboured on your server.
