What drives you "nuts" about other drivers?
Nothing. I keep my cool and instead try to position myself so those who don't know what they are doing couldn't harm me.
i seem to be having a lot of close calls lately due to other drivers talking on their cell phones.
These people are usually engrossed in their conversation and will drift into my lane or stop without warning or turn without a signal. I've also been cut off.It's a little tough to remain cool and calm when you are dealing with these types of drivers on a regular basis.
I can't stand people who don't use turn signals
I used to get upset when others drove to slow, or to quickly but psychologically our brains are all moving at different intervals, nobody can understand the other person who does not use a turn signal, or drives under or over the speed limit, the only thing we can do is relax as we will all get there at one time or the other. I always think of it this way, we are all supposed to get where we are supposed to be , when we actually get there. Why be in a hurry, or impatient I would rather get there safely , then pissed off or angry because I believe the other driver is not driving the right way. I don't cuss or scream, I just simply acknowledge the circumstances.
I used to be like the others when I was in my 20's after working E.R. and seeing all of the trauma patients and deaths due to vehicle accidents, I certainly changed my outlook on the entire situation.
OMG...I have to tell myself that all the time about relaxing and realizing we may only be a few minutes late somewhere..and what does that matter anyways? Its not the end of the world. But back in the day....OH I WAS A HANDFUL...Flipping people off, holding my hand on the horn, screaming obscenities like a mad woman.... I get that feeling every now and again and have to Check Myself....
Aevans is right though!If we are doing all that we can to get their safely, without anger, rage or stress we are doing the right thing. Talking to paramedics, officers, etc. on patients young and old, the stories are repetitious the man or woman was driving to fast, someone got upset and rammed or shot them. He had to much drink, he is fine but the others were DOA. It enlightened me.
I don't like speeders in winter
n I hate when they dont signal, or cut in front of you. I agree that the best approach to idiots on the road is "o well" and let it go: however, since we're venting - I literally have to use huge amounts of self talk and self-analysis to not smack the driver who won't let me turn either left or right, including changing lanes. Here in Florida, there is some kind of rule that seems to be known and understood by others easily and myself not at all, that whatever spot you're on, whatever lane you're in, ITS YOURS, BABY. and your's alone.
let no man put ass-under that which you have gained by road hogging. You take your life in your hands just to make a lane change. They honk, do creative waves, and think the speed limit only applies to the far right lane.
I could write a book, or just say "o well."))When we took a wonderful vacation to DisneyWorld with our son, we had the wonderful honors of the entertaining drivers, of course my husband drove and he isn't anything like me. We were at a light and wouldn't you know it the light was red, as soon as it turned green the guy behind us honked and honked , my husband couldn't even remove foot from brake and apply to accelerator, he gives the guy the finger and of course wouldn't you know it the guy gives us one back. Our son's comment was "Dad why is everyone throwing birdies today?" As you can tell he was very alert and had been riding with Dad wayyyyyyy to much. LOLOLOL

One thing that I always find comical are people who are way too anxious and just have to complete their right turn when pedestrians have the walking light. Some times it is just easier to wait for these people to go because apparently they really are in a rush
. I have nearly been hit so many times by people who try to make these turns when I am already walking across the street.How about those entering a roundabout, signalling left, and going straight, or worse yet, turning right.
One thing I have to add, I have calmed right down last 5-6yrs. Like some of you, I lust make room for 'em, watch out for 'em, r-e-l-a-x...
I also practice a lot of courtesy. You see, I believe in the "sowing and reaping" principle. Now I find a lot of courteous people being "nice" to me.Man, we've got them EVERYWHERE. They must be cheaper than lights. Some areso small, a decent sized car has trouble turning in it.
LOL does it come with age or what? Look at us, everybody is singing to the same tune
In general, I don't take anything anyone else does to seriously; because I know they either don't know better, maybe didn't plan to make some stupid move, or may even be jerks in life (which isn't my problem and is theirs).
I'll admit to feeling the blood pressure rise when someone tailgates. It irks the heck out of me, and it really used to make my blood boil when my kids were little and in the back seat.
I have to agree with aka-dj, about speeding, though. This happened over 30 years ago (so at this point discussing it is pretty much as without emotion as telling my eye color would be; so I don't want people to think I'm being a "big drag" on a relatively light-ish post). Still, I don't think enough people realize that "it can happen to you" - and they just keep speeding.
My two girlfriends and I were hit by a speeding driver (27 years old and apparently had a fight with her boyfriend at a lounge, so she zoomed away from the bar). Two of us survived. When people think speeding is "what everybody does" or a joke, boy, it does irk the heck out of me (needless to say). I know people can't/shouldn't go around living in fear of being killed out of the blue; but no matter how any of us thinks it's something that happens to other people and not us, that just isn't true.
For some people, as Misha said, it takes aging some. For others, it can be a matter of being robbed of thinking like a young person earlier than scheduled. (Rochelle, I like the clever rules you posted. )
AEvans, I guess when we have "up close and personal" experience with this kind of thing it does have its impact.It takes aaging alright. You drive differently when you get older. The sad part is that many of these young ones won't ever get there, to realise it for themselves. I don't understand why they just "don't get it".
Must be the "it won't happen to me" mentality.
I've driven in some of the worst traffic in the country -- Los Angeles, New York City, Atlanta, Dallas -- but Miami takes the cake.
When you are driving on the highway in Miami, DO NOT turn on your blinker when you need to change lanes. It then becomes a game. People will purposely speed up so you can't switch lanes. I used to just hold my breath, shut my eyes and pray to God!The fact that they're on it, for the most part. Nothing better than an open stretch of empty road
Not at the speed they're goin! I could be right up their butts and if they stop short, I've still got plenty of time
They ride so close to your bumper that if you ever have to stop fast they will end up in your trunk!!!
It also seems like a lot of people signal as they turn instead of before. Or at least don't give much notice
slow drivers....one of my offenders laughed when i cut one off the other day....
I remind myself that it isn't safe on the roads and drive with caution. I don't get upset on the road because it dampens my other senses that require me to drive carefully. Also, I keep my cool because there I may have my children in the vehicle with me, and they learn by example.
