The Rapture is a hoax

Finally some sense.  There is nothing real about the Rapture, the word was never in the bible to begin with. Yet the Christian Right swears it will happen.  The 'prophecy' is not really a prophecy, just pasted together passages of different bible passages and fed to people.  Not the true words of original scripture at all.

    You must feel relieved!?

I'm not really a rapture kinda chick but you do realize that an article from Huffington post is not really gonna change anyone's mind right?  I mean it's kinda like Fox News trying to convince me that Romney is a really sweet guy who has my best interest at heart.

      Just one man's opinion.

Nothing of value to change minds, NOR established doctrine.

It's not about "is the rapture true", or not, it's about the nature of God, His plan for humanity, and the ultimate end of the world (as we know it).
The rapture is simply one aspect of God's plan of "rapping things up", at the end.

2Ki_2:11  And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Just one example of the rapture.  Same verse below in Hebrew.

2Ki 2:11  ויהי המה הלכים הלוך ודבר והנה רכב־אשׁ וסוסי אשׁ ויפרדו בין שׁניהם ויעל אליהו בסערה השׁמים׃

        The Otis elevator motto is:

"Otis elevators will operate as long as the building stands!".

Here are some relevant verses in Hebrew:

        ה רכב־א וסי אשׁ ויפרדו  ויעל וסי אשׁ שׁ וס בין שׁניהם ויעל

They do not promise a whirlwind, or a rapture, only complete consumer satisfaction. And I trust them.

Yes, I too can talk, nonsense.

Whether you believe it to be true or not is irrelevant to the OP.  The OP states there is nothing real about the rapture in the Bible.  I gave an example from the Bible and from the Hebrew Bible.

Please try and stay on topic.

Assuming Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind, through parted clouds, what  could possibly make you think this is your destiny (or anybody else's?).

Crackpot stuff like this brings the whole of Christian thought and teaching into disrepute.

I think most interpretations are the product of cobbled together passages. People believe what they need to believe. I guess we all know the history of the origin of the Rapture belief. I wonder what made American life such fertile soil. Why it continues to be a strong influence on religion. There has to be a level of angst driving it.

I think, the belief will remain firm until we can see a light at the end of the tunnel we are moving through. We have so many worldwide problems. Politically, socially, environmentally, etc etc. I believe it overwhelms people. They feel powerless and want to believe they will be saved before things become truly untenable.

I don't begrudge the individual their fears. I do begrudge those who use religion to take advantage of them.

Betcha hate is way more destructive. What you describe as destructive love isn't really love. Need more data on the context of your comment, then a judgement might be made as to what perversion of 'love' you are referring to. Extrapolate.

Try telling that to someone else that. I know Love. I feel it everyday of the week, every minute of every day, and every second I am alive.

Parents who say I love you so much I must kill you? How is that not destructive and the usage to that person is love. Yes, I am aware it's a delusion, but not to the person at that time.

No Harm in giving love. first to yourself in order to give to others better

Yet, too much Love-Giving  whether in partnership relations or in personal friendships -- that needs and wants to possess can be as destructive in giving more than what is wanted as in giving too

If God love us all, so be it, If God (Yahweh) want us to love him above everything, earn it by saving Satan too and live and let live with all groups and individuals

Sound like too many conditions for Gods love, all over again.

Cag...you are talking about unbalanced minds. Emotions become confused in a psychotic break. Part of love is equality. A balance needs to be acheived in a relationship, and it is in that balance that real love exists. Been in the same relationship for 36 yrs. In many ways we are polar opposites, but neither of us would change a thing.

          1. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Actually, I'm talking about doing things/taking action based on Love.

If a person claims to be Christian, then takes actions based on Love, if those actions are harmful in anyway to others, then obviously it's not based on Love.
Probably true. However, having felt the power of Love, I can say one thing, if it's not understood, it will make you delusional.
Equality isn't being equal. Being equal is based on individual rights. Equality and Equal rights are not the same thing.
            That relationship is with self.
            Good for you. Congrats!
            That's good.

Rapture- escape, rescue. A concept. No the word does not appear in the bible. Neither does trinity (never understood that one). One of  many verses they use to identify it is 1Thess.13-18. Question is when this will occur. pretrib, midtrib, or posttrib. Clue, also known as the second coming.

                The real perplex is this:
They emphatically say Jesus IS God. But, the text says emphatically Jesus does not know the hour/day of his return. Second, he is sitting @ the right hand of god. Kills the whole man-god thing, doesn't it? Because:
                a. if Jesus is g/God and he doesn't know when he's coming back {long awkward pause} & b. if Jesus is g/God and is sitting at his own right hand, he is literally "beside himself" -if you catch my meaning -and also, how can Jesus be inside 7 billion people? Either way, someone needs serious therapy or a very long, relaxing holiday/vacation.

He was meditating, going within himself and finding the Christ inside.  It's all inside.  Paradoxically when you go into those states it's like you are going outside, but you are actually within.

How can it not be in 7 billion people.  It's all inside oneself.  The kingdom of heaven, everyone's nirvana, Fields of Peace, whatever name you want to give it, is within.  It's all within.  Each and every one of us has the ability to do this.  Just when you are taught that God is an external being, many people go looking toward false gods to satisfy their ills.  It's all by become amazing human beings that you become whole.  Simple principle, not so easy in practice.

The Jesus as God part as very much misunderstood by followers.  As is the idea of the Rapture - well it's not that it's misunderstood, it's just that it's being used as a tool to fear people - that part is working on the Christian Right.  Very sad that one lives their life in fear and then projects it onto everyone else who doesn't buy into that fear.  Makes for a divided group of humans don't you think?  That in itself goes against the Christian teachings.  Such a problem is this religion - it's so divided.
