Dear HubPages,
A significant number of folks that write for your website have experienced a75-90% loss in traffic and revenue. Therefore, YOU have lost a significant amount of money in the last week. The reports are widespread, as far as traffic goes. All I ask is that you acknowledge that you are aware something is going on, and that you are as confused as we are, but are analyzing the situation.
While HubPages may own the platform, and may represent the 'body", we writers are the blood that continues to pump, day in and day out. Your blood pressure is very high right now.
Genetically I have abnormally low blood pressure, so I hope you don't mind if I exclude myself from that last paragraph.
Hubpages (at least it seems to me) answers alot more on facebook than here on this site. From what I've seen no one has addressed this there. Maybe that would help at least to get a response.
Good morning!
I think this was addressed by HubPages, just not in one of their announcement threads. Paul Edmondson let us know what HP is doing in this thread: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/104227 . They're working on whatever it was that dropped our traffic, which they think may have been two major changes that were made to the site.
It's probably going to take a few more days for things to be back to 'normal'. I am already seeing my traffic increasing in the past two days, even if it is a little at a time.
Loss of traffic... hmmm. you just noticed.... this site has been losing traffic for a while .. The poetry writers have seen this for a while .. Now the persons who write about how to make strawberry jam are losing traffic ..or what is the best kind of soup to eat on a cold day . ? Ha,ha,ha, .. maybe we should make this a comedy site.?
It won't be a comedy when they can't sell the business to anybody ..........................maybe Google wanted to buy it but with too much traffic it would have been too expensive so they decided to wipe out its value so they could get it on the cheap.
Whats being called by webmasters was the Google Panda 20 algo update. Once again getting jrdered by that dang Panda. Makes me sick to keep working and everytime you see the light, it starts to disappear again.
The thing I am curious about is this: all of the recent Google algorithm changes have resulted in less traffic for Hubpages, and pretty much every other site that I am aware of. They have certainly hit my own sites hard. This latest change knocked my daily hubpage views down by about 70 percent, on top of the earlier loss of about 50 percent.
But if Hubpages and other sites have lost so much traffic, which sites are benefiting? From a SEO perspective, I would like to know what they are doing right that we are doing wrong. Perhaps we can "borrow" some ideas.
Does anyone know of any sites that have actually seen a substantial increase in traffic as a result of the google algorithm changes?
larger authority sites. older sites. sites that pay for keywords. you may notice that for some searches you can find multiple pages for the same website in the top few results
My Squidoo traffic is up by 1000 per week while HP has halved. I have single lenses that garner more traffic in a day than 65 hubs do in total
However, my top referrer (to hubs) is still Google, so I have no idea why the traffic has dropped, as the hubs are still appearing in good positions in search results.
My top referrer is Google as well.
BUT...in a few cases I am seeing Bing close in on Google big time.
I have really begun to lean more towards looking at Bing rather than Google as a traffic source, even though Google is still number one (on paper at least).
I just hate it that one website/company (Google) has the power to affect everything I do online! I hope you are right, and that other search engines will begin to nibble away at Google's dominance.
For the first time in months I am actually seeing an increase in traffic instead of a slow spiral downward, although stil no where near the point I was at when Panda first hit, over the past week my visitor count has jumped up by around 40-50%.....jimmy
I too had been seeing an increase in traffic recently, though nowhere near to where I was before the Panda update. Now this recent dropped killed has wiped out all the gains and then some. Glad to here that you have not been impacted too badly Jimmy
It depends on what you write on or about. Right now I have the best traffic and revenue I have had in quite a while. I always do well in the fall of the year. Writing evergreen content is very important. A lot of people seem to miss that.
It's important that you write on subjects that are going to be as popular three to five years from now as they are now. Right now I have over 11,000 page views in the last 24 hours. Most of it from people looking for one thing.
Figure out what that one thing is and write about it. No I'm not going to tell you.
Good luck to everyone.
I wish I could find more evergreen topics, but a lot of them seem to bring in significantly less traffic than popular topics. I have had hubs that went up to 1000s of views and then dropped off. I would not consider them "temporary popular topics", but they were not fully evergreen topics either because the views would drop off by 50% then to 75% or so.
i believe you are right. I have read more about the Panda, and it was a big thing and not a little EMD. Webmasters are very upset. They think Google has too much authority, and it sounds like there could be action against Google. Maybe it's just talk. It's not fair for Google to ruin people financially without telling folks who write what they want. We need to find out more info. Maybe you could check into it a little more, since you have a technical mind..
I would say that you have fund your " niche" or should I say your recipe for success.

Do you more experienced Hubbers believe writing about controversial topics like politics hurts or help your page traffic? For example, if you disagree with someone's political Hub, will you not visit their other Hubs?

How many articles would you write for Hubpages if there was no revenue involved?
by Lily Rose 13 years ago
I'm a bit lost and unsure if there's anything I can to to increase revenue from one particular hub of mine: http://hubpages.com/hub/wall-decor-photo-displayThis one hub accounts for 27%-35% of my daily views, every single day, yet I rarely get any clicks, and when I do they are only a few pennies....

I just wrote a Hub last week entitled "Adam Lambert Sexed for Success". It did quite well, in fact it receive over 1700 views in less than a week. (that's good for me, anyway). My overall ranking on hubpages as of this morning was 96. The article was ranked anywhere from 87 - 93 and the...

A bit of background first...I joined HP almost two years ago, did a bit of writing and then stopped for a long time. Then went back and got into the apprenticeship program. My hits, on average per day, were a total of 100. I know how much I'd earn from HP per day from that to hit...

Hopefully someone from Hubpages HQ can look into this.I believe that those of us that are using a hosted account with Adsense are not getting any ad revenue on impressions from the niche sites.I base this on the fact that my daily impressions on Hubpages vs Adsense differ by a factor of about 100....
