I don't know what to write anymore...

Any experimental hubs I write pandering to the lower intellect, and thus having the potential to go viral, will be rejected by QAP.

Any how-to or other intelligent hubs that I write that would pass QAP will just lay there and earn nothing for the next 6 months to a year.

I don't know what to do. Any and all advice appreciated.

Can you do both in the same Hub - top half the viral stuff and bottom half the intelligent stuff?

What I'd do is buy a newspaper. Have a look and see what grabs your attention - an issue, a new product, an upcoming trend. There's always something to write about!

Honestly I wish they woud find a way to fit a broader audience. Different people are looking for different things. There are thousands of people that log onto the internet to learn something, research or just read thought-provoking articles. But the stuff that goes viral, passed onto millions of people and talked about for days is the easy to digest, quick funny stuff. Sometimes the funniest joke is told in one sentence. I'd hate to think that you have to change your natural comedic abilities to satisfy QAP or Google. I, myself and millions of other people will spend time frequenting your pages every day, for exactly what you're already doing.

I think you should do a hub about that. Yup. Write about having nothing to write about. Expound upon the pros and cons of not having any ideas anymore. If you put the right elements in there, it could go viral. Do you know how many online writers are going through what you're going through right now? It could potentially go viral. Add a poll, some Amazon books on getting your writer's groove back, a table on famous authors who had dry spells and how long they lasted, and BAM!! you have a hub. Hey. If you don't do this, paradigmsearch, I will. Carry on. smile

Maybe, but there's a lot of hubs on how to get around writer's block - how to come with ideas on what to write...

True. But I wonder if there's a way to make it unique and funny.

If anyone could do it, PDS could.  The problem still remains in getting the hub to the top of the SERPs through the competition, though.

Given months or years, it might gather enough organic backlinks to do so, but it would probably take a long time.

The good news. I think that is an excellent idea and topic.

The bad news. Virtually anything having to do with online writing is an over-saturated topic. I'd consider my short-term competition chances nil. And as to long-term, I'd be lucky to get a couple views a day I think. smile

Yes, I see from wildernesses' replies as well that it might be an uphill climb. Put your humorous spin on whatever you write and you'll find something that will work for you.

          Hey, Jan.

I still very much like your topic idea. So much so, that, thanks to you, I'm going to add a big, fat section on your topic in one of my existing hubs. Nothing to lose, and real potential for gain, since the hub has already been around for awhile. Many thanx. smile smile smile

It is done. With any luck, Google is having a multiple as we speak. I won't have to go near that hub again for at least 6 months.

If you write something that goes viral, it doesn't matter if it doesn't please the QAP people.  It will still be published, just not indexed by Google, who cares if you get viral traffic.

On the other hand, QAP cares about "in depth" coverage and lots of photos/videos.  You can write lots of stuff, just make sure the sentences are short, and no paragraph has more than 2 sentences.  In fact 1 sentence "paragraphs" are good.  This will pass QAP, and not scare the intellectually challenged readership.

Plus, Quantcast traffic shows a big upswing for yesterday.  We haven't had traffic like that since April last year (except for Dec 4th).  Maybe it's a sign that hubs will have an easier time ranking now?

    1. paradigmsearch profile image60
paradigmsearchposted 11 years agoin reply to this

That Quantcast graph is the purdiest thing I've seen in a long time!

And I very much agree about the short paragraphs.

This is why I took on a huge subject like entertainment media. I knew that the possibility of running out of material is a real risk, and that's how I've decided to avert it.

What has always worked best for me is to keep an eye out for subjects or problems that I search for online for which there are only lackluster results. I have the interest / will have the experience, will have to do research anyway, and might as well publish my findings, as I KNOW I can beat the stuff that's already out there.

Sometimes I get inspiration by going through Flickr or other photo sites until something grabs my eye. I can usually find something to inspire me.

    I hear the OP.

I am working on a viral joke that is over 750 words long, has two pictures, a poll and a quiz and is written in the Queen's English.

I can just imagine the look of delight on a mobile phone users face when a pile of quality content screws his bandwidth.

    ...

In other news, which I am guessing will have been TOTALLY MISSED, a teenager has made twenty million pounds selling a summarising algorithm for news media.

What does that mean for the hard of thinking?

It means that people DO NOT WANT TO READ GREAT LONG BITS OF LONG-WINDED PUFF AND FLUFF.

    ....

So please carry on concentrating on grammar usage...

    Ah.  what's the use?

However your hubs are my favorite and the fact that it's going to be in the Queens english just makes me laugh before I even get there.

Well that saves you a trip.

        It's a win-win.

Thanks to QAP it may not have been there by the time you arrived anyway.

And along those lines, don't I remember a similarly indicative comment by Paul Edmondson that shorter content monetized better than longer content? Wouldn't that mean it also ranked better?
