I even did a browser search for "follow" on my activities page. Only the my following whoever showed. All the entries indicating when someone followed me are gone. HP works in nefarious ways...
Well what do you know. I have the same situation. But we both still have all our followers. It just was removed from the activity for some reason. I see a software update was done recently. Another change is the addition of a direct link to "my earnings" in the pull-down menu under our name. I don't recall that being there before.
HP should have made this an Easter egg hunt! They should have thrown a contest when they made the upgrade. Anyone who finds a change and reports it first in the forums wins $5.
When I go to my accounts page, the same info is there to click on, but it stays up, and all the titles of my hubs are much further down the page. It's not a big deal, but IMHO all these cosmetic changes really serve no purpose. If I spend time not writing or tending to other sites for 3 or 4 days, it's getting annoying to keep coming back to yet another layout. It's a waste of time, and I am sick of getting used to where things are every time it changes. If I'm at the point I don't even want to visit my own page, I would guess others feel the same way. The Google traffic we need isn't going to want to keep relearning how to find certain writers they like.
But seriously, what do you really think?
Hey y'all! I just confirmed that new followers (of you) have indeed been recently removed from My Activity because they have nothing to do with your doing anything in particular.
People are still following you, you're just not going to see it in that feed anymore.
What about fan mail? Has that gone too? Normally at least the occasional new follower says "You're great" (as if I didn't know).
That page is still in business, http://hubpages.com/my/activity/fanmail .
I know. I heard you last night when I was taking my evening walk.
Oh, good. This page is still in business, http://hubpages.com/my/activity/fanmail . Three unmoderated fan mails. All better now.
I noticed this as well...that it no longer shows under activity. It is under fanmail...but only if the follower leaves a comment ( I think). I do get the new followers in my email, but not all of those show up under fanmail. I could be wrong so I will check about that in my email... next time I go there.
You know, I realized that too. I thought I was just missing something though. ....or maybe people stopped following me. Has anyone found out of there was a reason for this?
My guess is that it is really going to slow down the number of automatic follow-backs that many people do. However, I don't know if that was HP's intent. But I suspect.
How do we know about new followers if they don't leave fan mail?
Yep, I have just discovered that too. How will I know who´s my recent follower? I might like to follow her/him, too.
You'll receive an email that someone followed you. Also, on your profile, you can see there your list of followers.
From the HubPages "About Us" page:
"HubPages is an open community of passionate people—writers, explorers, knowledge seekers, conversation starters. Interacting and informing. Sharing words, pictures and videos. Asking questions. Finding answers."
Well bang goes another element of that open community. HP says one thing but does another. I suspect that people will not realise they have a new follower unless that follower leaves fan mail. It'll lead to less interacting and sharing methinks.
Well done HP.
I am getting emails to alert me when new people are following, and when I receive fan mail. However I am no longer receiving notice on HP itself. No little yellow box on the profile page, and no mention in notifications.
Whenever I hear of a new follower, I try to make time to go to their profile page, read a couple of hubs, and then follow them and leave fan mail in return. (To the few people I might have missed, send me a reminder! Sometimes life gets too busy, sorry.)
Anyway, back to the issue. When I check 'my activity' and scroll down for the past month, there are quite a few hubbers who have not yet approved their fan mail from me. Leads me to believe the problem is quite widespread.
It's not hard to hit 'approve' when you spot new fan mail so I guess they are just not aware of it.
Even thought I have my mail settings set to notify me when I have a new follower, I still always found it useful to ALSO see it in the activity report. It was in the activity where I could see if there were any pending fan mail that I needed to approve. Now that it was removed, I will have to rely on clicking from my emails to approve fan mail. I am afraid I may start missing these.
I would really like to understand the reasoning behind this removal from activity. I understand HP said it was done because followers are not considered our own activity. Okay then - so how about giving us this information in another place. Here are my ideas...
1. Include the date a fan started in the "followers" listing. And sort by that date with the latest on top ( I like to check out the profiles of new followers and this will help.)
2. Include a tag or icon to show that pending fan mail needs our attention in the "fan mail" listing. So we don't need to be dependent on using the email notification, which I see from these posts that many Hubbers have shut off anyway.
geez I came to follow back and can only do that from my email? now, that's annoying. I want to kick some vowels around now.

how do I delete an unwanted follower?

Lately I'm getting a few followers with no Hubs, no profile info and weird fanmail or email. Is there a way to block these people from following me? Or is Hubpages at least working on something in the privacy settings?I'd rather be able to do something about it than wait for Hubpages to kick them...

I am literally sick and tired of people who follow you, and then, when you follow them back, they promptly unfollow you. Really, people? What do you do when someone unfollows you shortly after you follow them? Do you hunt them down and unfollow them as well? Do you send them mail saying what they...

Do you always leave fanmail when you start following a hubber?
by Adam Vogt 9 years ago
Hello! I became a Follower of a poster, but did not take the option of leaving a Fan Mail at that time. Now, a little later, I want to send a fan mail that can be posted, but the only option under the Fan Mail section of the poster's account is to send an email, which I know is not the...

On Hubpages, if someone follows you, do you have to follow them back as courtesy?I have noticed a lot of people that have followed me that don't leave any comments. I wonder if I should follow them back as courtesy or not? The ones that do leave comments when they follow me are the ones...
