Excuse me, now you are deciding what I can and can't write about?

Dear hub pages. I got on my account today only to find my blogs about my movie's kickstarter <link snipped> and my rant about kickstarter have been deleted (or removed) by hub pages. So now you guys are going to be moderating what i write on here huh? Deciding if I can use my own hub for my own purpose? Hmmm, I'm not cool with that at all. IF that's how it's gonna go, you'll loose a hubber.-Bo

bonnebartron, I hope you feel ashamed when you read your post back. Of course HP decide what is featured on their pages. They own the pages. Doh!

And what makes you think anyone has flagged your hubs? There is work in progress to upgrade the site. If you want your hubs to be featured, all you need do is abide by the rules. I've not read your work, and because of the tone of this discussion, I choose not to read any. Feel free to love it. Man, I'm not a confrontational person, but you've got me riled.

Riled? Really? REALLY?  Come on! HubPages has screwed me in their various changes...and even admitted to being at fault.  It simply happens.  You are not one to judge a fellow member, ya know, lol.  Take yer riled and let it rest, haha!

HubPages would have NO pages that "they own" if it were not for those of us who provide the pages..... a copy of your "Doh", lol.  Wake up! Smell the HubPages! smile  By the way and FYI, we own our own pages here, not HubPages.

There seems to be a post missing at the start of this thread. I admit my post reads badly with hindsight, but there was a message something like "what's wrong with people, they're flagging my hubs," and  a harsh comment that wound me up. So it wasn't a response just to the first post. You're not seeing the whole picture, because it isn't there any more.

Checked back under bonnebartron's activity, the post is no longer available. I guess someone else thought it was a little OTT as well.

Having been with HubPages since right before the beta test period ended (close to seven years ago) I have to say that HubPages has had some sort of regulations about what can and can't be content since the end of the very first year.  That was when they got venture capital funding and made all the hardcore porn content go away.... Good times...

Besides, promoting a Kickstarter fundraiser seems like it would be pretty straightforwardly overly-promotional since the Hub would be singularly promoting a web page created entirely for your own financial gain.

        I miss the porn.

I guess that's what they think too, except it's not for my "financial gain" it's for the production of a movie. A movie I wrote, and one that offers really cool prizes to people who support independent film. It's a do-it-yourself kind of a site, and I truly thought hubpages would get behind that.

You could start up a blog, then you could post pretty much anything you want, within reason. Got a Facebook page to support your Kickstarter project? Just some suggestions.

Hubpages deciding what you can and can't write on here is nothing groundbreaking or extraordinary. Read the FAQ's. It's their website, therefore they decide what gets to go on it.

Also, I'm not generally a grammar nazi, but it's a pet peeve of mine... it's "lose" not "loose".

Shanna,  Thank you for saving me from saying the same thing......I'm much stricter, than you are.  I AM a grammar Nazi....(and have no problem admitting that now and again, we ALL screw up, but when the same word is used/spelled improperly, ALL the time.....it's time to speak up.....one of my pet peeves is "then" and "than."  Don't have time to list all of them!! ( and of course, you're correct about HP being the Boss.....)

Hey bonnebartron- the Hubs that have been unpublished (moderated) have been unpublished because they do not meet our publishing standards (specifically with regard to mature content and promotional content). The emails we sent regarding those actions provide additional explanations, and more can be found in our FAQ and Learning Center.
I hope that clears things up! big_smile

Yeah, I think it's pretty messed up. I would hope hubpages would try to help promote things from authors on here, not un-publish their work. Not too pleased.

      1. Cardisa profile image88
Cardisaposted 11 years agoin reply to this

If you wish to publish at your own will without having your content removed for violating policies and guidelines then maybe your own website would be better for you. Most reputable content sites frown upon mature content. When I don't want to be censored I publish on my own blog.

wildernessposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Cardisa is right - if you think it is messed up that the owners of a web site limits what can be put on their site you probably need to have your own.  You could even then moderate what comments others put on it!

        Bonnebartron,

It's none of my business and you can bomb me out if you choose but I would suggest one thing above all: take a breather and sleep on it. Of course Hub Pages want to promote the work of its contributors to the site as such practice benefits the company as well as the individual author. It's a win/win situation.

However, Hub Pages has a responsibility to moderate and control content which it believes may not be appropriate or beneficial as determined by the stipulated rules of the wider Web, or by legislators and law makers. I have no idea as to the content of your Hubs in question here and therefore am not commenting on their content or having "a go" at you. I simply hope you get a chance to think through your situation and deal with it in a better prepared state of mind.

        Best wishes smile

I agree as well with, Cardisa. Another website would be the answer to all your problems. If you're gonna play with a moderated site, you've got to play by their rules.

  5. ketage profile image82

I am sure hubpages reserves the right to moderate the hubs that people publish on their site.  when I think of myself on hubpages, I think of myself as a guest in someones home, and I follow the rules and customs of the owner of the house, when I want total freedom to do whatever I want, I do it in my own home smile
Which is why I recommend that for the articles that hubpages finds unsuitable, just put it up on your blog smile
That being said, when you do post your article on your blog, kindly email me the link, I am curious what you wrote.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. These were hubs that have been up for years and are still my top rated ones, and also a hub I wrote about my film. The one about my movie is MY passion, and I was hoping to share it with a group of like minded people. Unfortunately, I think you are right, a personal blog may be the answer. I've given hours and tons of free content to hubpages, perhaps it would be better to do my own thing. -Bo

bonnebartron: I'd hate to see you leave, I too, have been burned by the "mature content policy" a couple of times, now.  It sucks, but Google is pretty unforgiving about it.  With less than nine dollars to go (almost all the time, it seems, or forever and a day,) on my Google Adsense payout, I would much rather have Hub Pages watch my back than lose my Google Adsense membership for some poetry or a hub about losing your virginity.

Perhaps there's another answer, one I've been considering for quite some while.  I happen to be a *cough ahem* expert on certain things, which I am *not* able to write about here, on Hub Pages.  I understand that, and I've grown comfortable / cool with that, but I've had a lot more time to think on it than you have.

Hosting your own site, (there are some available for "adult content" that are free,) where you can feel free to promote your movie and talk about adult things might be for you.

You can keep your Hub Pages subdomain and write here about things that don't violate the TOS or endanger your Google Adsense account.

I am really interested in what you decide to do, drop me a line if you get something worked out & I'll do the same for you, if I ever get my site up and running.

I write adult content as well and I have figured a way to make money from it.....freelancing! I have some very happy customers and right now I have customers waiting in line.

That said, I have been thinking of my own website as for this kind of writing as well. I started a blog but Blogger does not approve of adult content as well. So I deleted it. They may allow you to but it's risky. Your won domain is best but you cannot place adsense ads on it. You would have to get independent advertisers for dating  or other adults services.

lol yes, I had to turn down a few. This morning one emailed me to ask me to let them know when I would be free. I have a novel and a novella writing at the moment...lol

I used to be flagged here as well, that is before I realized my content was too "adult" for the site. If you want to make it on HP you have to be able to suck some things up and abide by their rules. I now undertsand that Google isn't too keen on adult content.

If you own your own domain you can indeed put adsense ads on it but be sure you know and understand the rules and regulations. A privacy policy must be in place among other things.

Cardisaposted 11 years agoin reply to this

I meant no adsense on adult sites. It's against Adsense policy to advertise on adult sites. That is the reason for Hubpages policies against adult content. If you write an informative hub which HP sees fit to publish they will remove all ads. Like the time I wrote about my fiance forcing himself on me, that was informative and appealed to a lot of women but the ads were disabled.

If you go ahead and place adsense ads on an adult site you will lose you adsense account....no bones about it.

Hahaha! I wish I was talking about porn. I don't do porn, I don't write porn. I wrote about a feature film, a NARRATIVE feature film I am in the middle of making, and even my link to my movie on the hub got snipped. Yeah, I'm looking into my own blog. I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time working with hubpages when this is how I am thanked for all my free content. WTF ever.

Sorry, I was just joking with Relache.  I have to agree with another poster, linking to Kickstarter for a project is properly over-promotional.  bonnebartron, have you never gotten a HP or Google Adsense pay-out?  It's not "free content," you're getting paid for it.  If you haven't gotten paid for it yet, I hope you do soon!

I do, and you are too right. I am doing just that. We do have a Facebook for it, but it seems as if i even mention the actual link, it gets taken down. Another of my hubs just got unpublished. One from 2 years ago... Throughly disappointed. Goodbye hub pages.

I am confused.  You talk about unpublished hubs for a new account (posting from what is clearly a new account), and then say the hubs are two years old?  I assume you have been keeping up with the rule changes around here?
