It is possible that Squidoo may not be affected by Ebay change

Ok - I am not really sure that I will be using s-doo but have signed up anyways. I am really like hp and the community here so I imagine it will be my main site

but.....for those who are interested --- I have a theory

We must use our individual EPN accounts on hb which is now in direct violation of the new ebay rules

however, the way s'doo is set up, you are using s'doo's own EPN account

that appears to be a loophole -- one that Ebay may not have fully realized

I can't imagine that they don't see S'doo as one of the sites they were targeting with this change, so the jury is very much still out

I put up a post on the forums over there and only got forum replies and no admin. Admin has not addressed this issue anywhere from what I can tell --- I have been searching quite abit

so --- not that I am urging you to another site -- but if you need to recapture some ebay money, you may have an option at squidoo

now --- I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT THIS AND AM READY TO GET SHUT DOWN. I apologize in advance and will gladly admit my mistake if someone can clarify.

The bottom line is that the issue is definitely not clear

    all the best

      That much is clear big_smile

This is what it says on the official blog:

"Sub-affiliates: Any arrangement where publishers distribute their earnings from eBay Partner Network to other publishers. Like ad networks, this has been a model that required special permission until now but will no longer be allowed in eBay Partner Network."

Which could mean Squidoo can't do what they're currently doing.

That may be a possible loophole, but even still I never did well with ebay on Squidoo. You end up getting put in a pool, and say you earned $50, you may only get like $20 total from all the affiliates you use in your lenses.

Ebay sales on Squidoo are a straight 50/50 split between Squidoo and the Lensmaster, the revenue doesn't go into a pool.

I just went back and double checked

Squidoo makes money 2 ways: ads, and affiliate revenue. This means Google ads or other ads we contract to run, and affiliate income from Amazon, eBay, CafePress and more.

Ad revenue (Google and other ads). This money goes into a pool, so as to avoide clickfraud. Half of the pool distributes out to lensmasters, on a PayRank scale that is based on each lens's average LensRank and traffic, and the number and quality of lenses in the lensmaster's account.

Affiliate revenue (ie, referral income--like Amazon and eBay and CafePress). This is directly attributable to the lens that generated the revenue, and is not pooled with the whole co-op. The lensmaster gets a straight 50%.

It sounds like you get 50% which isn't great

Really? I must have misunderstood that.. Ooops sorry.. I still never did well with ebay or any affiliate on Squidoo. I definitely look up to those who have faired well with the site.

3bagsfull - you maybe right - I wrote a blog post thinking that squidoo was affected the same way as HP - but scroll down to the comments - several people with much more squidoo experience than I disagree - partly ebay bans blogger, HP etc. I'm keeping an eye on it and will update the post as the position becomes clearer

@darkside - that's exactly what I read and why I wrote the post I did which I linked to above - but now I have several knowledgable squid people saying no - its not a problem... or are they just in denial (entirely possible) Would love your input as you are one of the few who does both HP and squidoo very well

HubPages HQ were caught unawares. I know that if I were Squidoo HQ I'd want to know where I stood beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I'd expect Squidoo HQ to find out before August 1 of how it affects them. Hopefully they'll let their users know as soon as they know.

      Time will tell.

Didn't know about this.  Does that mean we have to take the Ebay modules off of all Hubs?
