Who do you think is RIGHT ?

   The Indian Premier thinks the Islamic tradition of  Triple Talaq* is uncivilised and wants to replace it with something similar to the current Hindu practice of divorce and maintenance. I view his stance and move in this regard with the strongest disapproval. As I view it, the Islamic tradition at issue is far more civilised than its Hindu or  so-called secular counterpart. Islam says it's your mothers and sisters who happen to be your own people, far closer and bigger relations of yours than your ex-wife while by the current Hindu and secular  stance on this issue, it's not your mothers and sisters but your wife that is your own person and closer and bigger relation than your parents and siblings are. What's wrong with Islam ?   
   *By this tradition, a Muslim guy can abandon his wife by just uttering the word ' talaq '  three times, and he's NOT obliged to pay any alimony to his ex-wife.

   I do not know the details of the argument, however it does seem wrong to me that a man can abandon his wife so easily.
   
   If the ex-wife is a professional like himself and able to support herself, it might be a different story - but I can imagine in India that many would be traditional homemakers who could have been out of the workforce for many years when their husband leaves.  How is she supposed to support herself?

      Thank you for the comment. Marisa, Islam has made it obligatory for a woman's father and bros to take care of her. So, what's wrong with the tradition of triple talaq ?

   Can a woman do the same and automatically be divorced? Islam has always seemed to me to be a backward and misogynistic faith. I don't know about Hindu practices but little could be less sensitive to women's rights than Islam.
