I mean, is ANY good coming out of them? Mostly it's one person insulting the other's point of view...in fact, as of today, I've vowed to myself never to go near one!

I always knew i risk suspension if i as much as linger in the religious forums. I'm passionately against 'spiritually arrogant' people and can't tolerate a one track mind/non-realistic religious freak!

I am new by time standards here, and after reading them and also participating in two, yes I am also.

Not going into them any more either.

Problem though is some of them are bleeding into other Forums and trying to turn it into the same.

      as if...

your curiosity will get you back in the debate...

Everyone is trying to be nice after the knife is well in place...

In the big picture it isn't about religion so much as it is about staying out of the web of those who would turn us into serfs while we all strive for 'freedom" a la "buy this product or that product and you too shall be saved".

We are all being played for pennies to the dollar.

i see you wrote your topic title in all caps.

wow you must really hate those threads.

i could be wrong, but if you really hate something to the point of becoming physically ill (or "sick" as so many of you have said), you could stay away from them.

i scrolled through the topics list and saw two, count 'em, two religious topic threads and all the rest were not.

      page 2, the same thing.

i began one religious thread on sunday and people actually wandered into the thread to say how sick they were of it, and how boring it was, so i emailed the HubTeam last night to lock the thread to spare anyone else any more distress. the thread had over 400 comments, so someone somewhere found the topic worth discussing.

HubPages belongs to every member of the community and people should feel comfortable posting in whatever forum they want to without being labeled argumentative or having their motives questioned.

i see plenty of topics i find boring or silly and guess what? i stay out of them. i don't go into them to tell my fellow hubbers how awful they are, and i don't start threads to do the same. and if you feel that bad about it, there's always the report button.

cosette, I'm sure you know that if you had scrolled through the topics list at any time over the last couple of months, you would have found a very different situation.

Perhaps the fad has worn off.  Perhaps it's the fact that HP is closing threads (which they hardly ever did in the past) that is removing some of the heat.

I have no objection to anyone posting whatever they like, provided it doesn't impact me.  The way the forums are set up right now, the excessive and aggressive activities in the religious forum were affecting me, and a lot of other people, because it was so "in your face".

Whats considered good manners in the religious forum?

        2. profile image0
cosetteposted 14 years agoin reply to this

well i won't say what kind of threads annoy me out of respect for others but if i see another one i will probably throw my shoe at the wall wink

if it's a huge problem maybe the HubTeam will do something about it. there's nothing wrong with people expressing their displeasure with something they read here, but calling people 'freaks' or their posts 'stupid' or 'boring' and assuming they post in those forums just to argue with others is uncool, as far as i am concerned. i don't want to debate this point with anyone, just express my feelings on it since i frequent religious threads and find them fascinating. no one should have to defend their interest in a forum or topic.

sure! you just have to sort through all the rubble and fallout...wink

i always thought Mr. Knowles, Earnest, Tantrum, Sanctus, Valerie and even atomswifey had plenty of interesting things to say...

          Wonderfully put Marissa!

Just want to stress again...that this is not about the religious forums (of course, they have every right to their space as much as any other forum here), but the insults and aggressive arguments going on in some of them, and which do put you off them. Hence I talked abt not going near them, instead of reporting or asking to 'ban' them.  Also, the caps express frustration at the way some of these people insult you in the religious debates, and does not mean that I hate anyone. So, please let's not read too much between the lines!
          Peace!

I just wonder how they are able to get away with all the Breaches of the T.O.S. It seems that they are sorta above the Law, maybe people are afraid to say the wrong thing to them, they always scream "Breach of Rights" They have there amusing side.Lets face it How could they ever agree? They all have totally diff beliefs, or no beliefs at all. perhaps if I had kept my comedy Act in the Religious and Political forums, I wouldn't have come unstuck.

This is why we all need the promised ability to choose the forums we see listed.  I'm quite happy to ignore the religious threads altogether, but I can't - because the "latest activity" display is swamped by them.

Personally, I use the left-hand menu to click on each forum individually, but it's irritating that the "latest activity" listing, which should be a handy feature, is useless to me.

This wasn't a problem before the new look introduced the recent activity pane. Before then, people just popped into their favourite places. And that's still what I mostly do anyway. And just avoid the irritation smile

it really speaks much louder than anything they're trying to say.

  28. Daniel Carter profile image62
    Daniel Carterposted 14 years ago

Politics is just another religion, as false as any out there, says I.

I think the arguments are based on the rush and thrill of arguing (it's an addiction, I think) and the need for insecure people to have the last word.

That's all I can make of it. Plus I think in politics and religion both are deathly afraid in their deepest selves that what they believe in is really screwed, and they are desperately not having to face the fact that it might be so, so they fight to the death.

    Total weirdness to me.

Let them argue. I think the rest of us are having a high time creating our own forms of drama, more conducive to our liking.

    LOL
    smile

So true.  I've casually thought if I were ever bored, I'd follow certain people to other forums and see if they argue everywhere they go.  Entertainment, pets, automotives... Or maybe they never leave religion and politics.

Time someone came up with a way of educating chaps and chapesses about the fine art of debating - I think the meaning has been lost. More like who shouts loudest/longest.

I think it would be interesting to see how things would pan out if the hubteam could somehow disable the copy/paste facility in the relgion forum. Puts folks on their toes, having to use their own words big_smile

of course you are free to choose to participate or not into such thread or other.

When I got here 2 months ago, I was amazed to find religious discussions at the same point I left them 30 years ago.
But I don't think that there's a particular attitude to adopt towards that fact. Let people play.
Afterall disk storage cost is low...

But I recognize the fact that there are some few quality  posts on those forums, some quality people.
    (I mean "religious" forums)

This thread is so funny.  Lately it seems there are a never ending parade of "believers" who write few or no hubs and just post on the religious forums.  Some are just alter egos of members wanting to argue but not in their real names.

But I feel the same way about other threads on the forums.  Some of those dramatic "my man left me and I don't deserve it" threads or "Obama is the devil" and "do women put more into the marriage than men" laments have same effect on me as the religious forums apparently have on many of you.  It just depends on what one dislikes.
