I had a big problem myself with hard drugs when I was a teenager, my mom asked me if I needed to go to rehab and I told her no. I have been clean ever since. Actually, breaking up with my boyfriend at the time helped TREMENDOUSLY.
ive been a drug addict and alcoholic since i was 13 . ive ran every gambit that is involved in being that. ive been jailed . and in many a treatment center . i was locked up in a state rehab for a year.my longest clean up was almost three years in witch i was actively involved in na and aa . i was the treasurer of my na home group. and a speaker for a group called hospitals and institutions. we would lead meetings at rehab centers. the battle is never over and a constant struggle. hi my name is ray and im a drug addict
It was getting on my nerves! If you know what I mean
Well, just zipped off another hub. I was neglecting them staying on here all the time. How are you doin?
Having lots of fun, as usuall!
Now.... I think something about you is getting on my nerves ! I feel so hot !!
I hope our small talk is helping addicts... At least to laugh !
You were a bit opaque on the top five things list there
'Giggity?' I love that, Tantrum. So you and Denno have been carrying on behind my back, I see!
Anyhoo, sober tidings to all-our family put up our tree last night. It's perfect. Well, at least I think so. Rocky's good, his voice is all hoarse, but all in all, the cat's amazing.
Just thought I'd pop in this morning.
L8R!
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...
The courage to change the things I can...
And the Wisdom to know the difference, PLEASE!
Cheri and I were both escorted to a meeting at 1:30 this afternoon! I would have to say that I have met some of the best people in the world in this program!
I am so glad that a member of the program went the extra mile for Cheri and you. What an awful time so near Christmas, Wendi, but it seemed that he was suffering.
All my love to your family.
Wendi, I have to say again, please give Cheri a hug for me
cheers
xo

Glad I found this thread, it made a good start to my day.
Shows that even on HP we are not alone in our recovery or suffering
I'm so glad to see new faces here. We're a crazy lot, I'll admit, but absolutely the best. MysticRuler and selrach, glad to meet you. I've been alcohol and drug-free since June of '08 and I can't say that it's easy, but it is worth the effort and the new perspective on the world.
Kimberly is awesome!
This thread died but I don't want to start a new one, so I'm reviving it a little.
You guys are all so supportive here, and many of you are my friends, so I'm gonna do a quick post.
I don't have a substance abuse problem but I don't really know how to classify this.
I'm taking a particular medication that I'm not dependent on, although it has a risk of dependency.
It is a sleeper pill. I've been taking it for a very long time, and it is time to give it a break I'm sure. I'm not hooked on it in the sense that I need to take it every night (often I don't remember to take it when I should.)
The problem:
I also take medication for narcolepsy, so I shouldn't be taking the sleeper in the first place. It's BS that I even do. Except, if I don't have it, I seriously do not sleep at all. I'm already panicking about this and I still have a month's worth of pills to fall back on.
So, I'm in a spot where I'm not addicted to it, but without it, I do not sleep. Yes, this is f#cked up. I need the narcolepsy med in order to get through a day. Since I have to choose right now, I'm going with the waker upper instead of the sleeper. Because I need to keep my J-O-B.
But if I can't get a good night's sleep, the narco. cannot work.
I stop drinking coffee - oh yes, I'm that desperate - but just doesn't seem to help.
So. I can't sleep when I need to, and also be awake when I need to be.
When I was younger, this would not phase me. I could go two or three days awake and not feel the effects. Four is my record. I'm also capable of sleeping 20 hours and not realizing that I lost an entire day.
So. That's that. Considering how much this f##king medication is costing me, I'm thinking about giving all of it up and switching to weed. I've done that before, and I worked out OK for me.
But in my whole life I've never felt as good or healthy as I have since I started the narcolepsy treatment.
I put this here because I know I can skip the whole "god, my life is hell" bullshit whining and get right to the part where hopefully, there is some advice for me.
Hey Jen,
I'm not sure how much good I am going to be to you. I know, I can tell you that the easiest way I've found to fall a sleep is to discern truth from my day.
So, I guess it's almost like meditating, but I don't see it that way. What I do is lay down to go to sleep. Close your eyes and concentrate on your day. What did you do exactly?
Review the conversations you had with people, look for things you wouldn't normally look for?
You will most likely not even get thru your day, and you'll be asleep.
Plus, I know another you could try and I also know that this can work. Is self-hypnosis. You lay in bed and put yourself under a hypnotic state and go to sleep. You clear your mind and concentrate on saying the word sleep, to yourself.(don't need to speak out loud)
Both techniques, in past years, for going to sleep. Believe it or not, I'm not encouraging you to break the law(weed might help).
Otherwise, if you need someone to listen? I'd be glad to.
I have a situation where I get up & about. I keep food in my bedroom - that's an effect of the ambien. But, I can get up, shower, drive to work, and realize once I get there that I was sound asleep the whole time. I have an alarm clock in every room of my apartment (except the bathroom - I have mercy on my neighbors lol)
My boss called me one day and said "Are you OK? cuz you're late" Apparently I talked to him for a few minutes but I didn't wake up. He was kinda pissed when I got there over an hour later...
well anyway, I'm starting to cry a little right now. It's already 1am so I will be late to work again. Fortunately my boss is a real good friend - he;'s been seeing me struggle with this for years and he gives me every break he can. He's well aware that since I've been living by myself it can sometimes be all but impossible for me to know if I'm awake or sleepwalking.
((cagsil)) thanks buddy.
I'll try the hypnosis tonight but instead of sleep I'll use the word banana. Used to do that when we were kids, it's hilarious when you forget what it means after you repeat it so long.
my advice is that little by little stop using drug. change while you can do it. like in my experience, i loose hope in my epilepsy but because i trust God above anything else He gave me this medicine Klonopin of medsheaven. Thanks i found my cure. i can live my life happier now.
Hello Im new to this whole thing have barely begun really and found your writing Lyricsingray which is what i was hoping to do myself. I worry about those close to me and have been searching hoping for a way to help, my sister has found a life much like yours and i fear for her, i have asked her to read the beautful and inspiring words you have written as i hope one day she can get to the place you write from now. She too is in a place where she may lose a child and I would give anything to help her. I have not yet read everything i hope to read of your inspiring work...but I am working on it. I do agree with what you say... Addicts of Drugs and Alcohol is not only useless but they could also be a menace to our society...No offense. Anyways, it would be best to all that they go to rehab to be given a second chance at a content and happy life they never had or so that they society would...
