Best Beach?

   What's the best beach in the U.S., in your opinion? Base your answer on the quality of the sand, the clarity of the water, and whether or not there's a strong current or undertow.
   
   My answer:
   
   St. Joe Beach, on Florida's Redneck Riviera
   
                         OR
   
   the northernmost beach on Anna Maria Island, south of Tampa
   
   Both of these have sugar-white sand, crystal clear water, hardly any waves, and NO undertow or current.

      I've never been to florida's redneck riviera, but have been to anna maria island which is gorgeous. here is my favorite within 20 minutes of my home, Caledesi Island

      it is just north of clearwater over the dunedin causeway. you take a short ferry ride to the completely natural beach setting.
      sometimes you can see dolphins following the ferry, it's a slice of heaven on earth.

   Well, I'm probably kind of spoiled, since I live in Michigan, which is surrounded by water, and many huge inland Lakes.
   So I would have to say that my favorite beach is Oval beach
   in Saugatuck Michigan. On Lake Michigan
   
   If you like huge crowds. Go to Holland state Park. If you like beaches with great old lighthouses and huge crowds. Go to Grand Haven State park. If you like beaches with awesome cliffs, and scary stairs, go to Manistee state park. All of these are on Lake Michigan. Not sure if there is a beach on Mackinac Island.
   But, there is certainly great scenery there.
   
   However, you can't go to any beach in the Great lakes without
   an undertow. When I was a kid I used to think it was called
   the undertoad, my brother told me it was a monster that would
   eat me if I swam out to far. But, since I couldn't swim I
   never went out any farther than shoulder level.
   
   I have also been to several beaches in Florida. Didn't care for the slimey, rocks in the water at the beach in Fort Lauderdale.
   I did like the beach in Tampa. The water was very warm, and, very compfortable to walk in, and shallow.
   
   We tried to find the beach in Key West, but couldn't find it.

   I thought Pensacola Beach was the best ever, powdery white sand with the bluest of water. I'm not sure if it was the beach where the movie "Summer of 42" was shot. It wasn't crowded at all, a  perfect place to spread a mat, get a tan and read a book. But, Hawaii has some of most awesome beaches as well. One my favorite is Waimanalo Beach because of the 'forest' backdrop, providing lots of shade and the waters is vivid turquoise.an incredible sight.

   I also live in Michigan, where beaches are so common that I don't give them a second thought.
   I gotta say Mackinac Island has beach access brimancandy, but at the same time I can't picture it. That's not the draw for me, so I guess I've never paid attention. For first timers going there, take a bike ride around the island. It's fantastic. Oh, and enjoy the horses. Automobiles are illegal.
   
   Anyway, I'm from the northeastern lower. Lake Michigan has beautiful sand dunes but I'm from the Lake Huron side. Thunder Bay specifically, Alpena. North of Thunder Bay is Misery Bay (no joke, and it is pretty scrappy). Then we get to my favorite beach. I guarantee you've never been there because it is my own private beach. yup!
   
   Belanger Bay is it's name. My family homesteaded it when MI was still federal territory, so it really is private. The law in MI holds that the area 10 feet from the shoreline is public domain but our family property was never owned by the state so that law does not apply.
   Before the water table fell, it couldn't be beat. Clean fine sand, gentle currents, water so clear you could see the fish as they bit at your bait. Right now I can hear the gulls, and smell the steaks my mom would grill up while we were out swimming.
   
   When I first moved here to the Detroit area I was expecting the worst but the river is beautiful. No beach on the river obviously but I spend hours at Bishop Park, watching the freighters. I can't use my cell phone there because the signal can switch to the towers across the river and then I'm stuck with international roaming fees.
   
   I've been to Daytona Beach many times and I can't compare it to other beaches because it's the only one on the Atlantic that I've been to but I absolutely LOVE it there.

    I agree with Hanalei Beach in Hawaii, that where my g-grandpa's from. Its so so beautiful.
    Also a huge fan of the beach in East Hampton!

    I know you asked for the USA, but there is a very special beach in the UK that deserves a mention . . .
    
    Blackpool.
    
    You see wild and unusual creatures such as the four-cornered-handkerchief-on-head-man, middle-aged-lady-sat-on-deckchair-with-legs-spread-apart, gleeful-child-on-donkey.
    
    Local delicacies to eat - blackpool rock, fish-and-chips, ice-cream-cone-with-Cadburys-flake, and much more . . a truly unique experience.
    
    Plus it is one of the only beaches in the world where the sun never shines, and the sea has to be spied through binoculars. Unforgettable.

    Hands Down, Siesta Key Beach on the wast coast of Florida near Sarasota! White sand, clean beaches, warm water. Greatest sunset view I've ever seen, Maui beaches come close but Siesta Key is the Best!

    This may sound wierd, but I'm not so into beaches. Don't really see what people get so worked up about. I love the shore, but beaches specifically - I don't know what the panic is about.

    If you want to include the U.S Virgin Islands I would say the beach at Trunk Bay...continental United States..I would say Siesta Beach...Sarasota,FL
