Disturbing trend in hub comments

   The past few days I've received a number of comments on several different hubs.  These comments have nothing to do with the hub although they are reasonably written.  Each is from a different address and none are from hubbers.
   
   Only one has caused any real concern, when the poster advised to sign up *here* and begin clicking ads in order to earn money.  As there was no link given it sounded like (s)he was saying to join HP and click all the ads.
   
   These are not a real problem as I don't allow unapproved comments and there aren't all that many of them, but others that do not make that requirement could be showing inappropriate or even dangerous comments.
   
   Anyone else getting a spate of inappropriate comments?

      It sounds like they are spam. I have heard of these from others and I believe what you do is deny them. If that does not work then delete them.

      I received several of these nonsense comments from China and Japan, then received one from a person in Japan asking to copy my content and put it on HubPages and Ezine in his own articles. He said it was a part-time job.

         Hi Dolores. The weird comments I'm getting are in English, but  by non-native writers. They are not spam; they're just ... odd. The comments remind me of those fake product reviews on Amazon that people have been hired to write on the cheap.

      Comments that are unrelated to your hub are probably being submitted by some sort of automated software. Places like hubpages will always be the target of black hat spammers.
      
      In my opinion, all profiles should have comments automatically locked for review by the hubber before being displayed.

      It just occurred to me that maybe those that receive these unwanted comments should check to see if their hubs are also being copied. There could be a connection.

      It looks like spam. A webmaster once told me this is a new way of spamming through adding comments.

      There is no website that is not going to be attacked by spammers. I agree with the people who mentioned moderating their own comments. For most of the online writing I have done, that is the practice I have always used. Once someone adds to the discussion on something I have written, I usually will allow them without closer scruitny, but I always reserve the right to delete as needed.

   Oh, I've had a couple. They were just... odd. Not relevant to the hub at all, although they were slightly related to the subject, iykwim - waffling on about books. I allowed one, and deleted the other. Neither were hubbers.

      One of mine is simply a copy of about 100 words, straight off the hub it is commenting on.  Nothing else, just a portion of the hub  WTF!!??

   Some of these may be people looking to get a link from a "sig". This is a trend I have noticed on other forums, where sigs are allowed, but only after a certain number of "posts". There is a business now that will  make "comments" for you on "do follow" blogs, so you can put your sig (with of course your link) at the bottom of your post and thus gain a social approval link from a popular forum. While I have not seen anyone having a sig on this forum, spam robots may not know this!

   I think it best to set the comment capsule so that you have to approve all comments before they appear. I had a couple of weird ones, including nonsensical gibberish, comments on unrelated topics, comments entirely in Russian, lists of shoes, cursing, and comments made by people who were obviously drunk. Thank heavens they did not appear!

   I have been getting loads of them the last few days and simply delete them.  Most are completely off topic and some are not even in English.  Fortunately I have it set to approve comments first so they are not being seen on the hubs.
