Does anyone else think that its wrong for there to be so much nudity in films? If i wanted to see nudity I would rent porn!!!!
That's very honest of you to come out like that and say that when you want to see nudity that you go and rent porn.
I agree with you! There is way too much nudity and sex in todays tv and films. It is getting worse too. Since I have little ones, I am about ready to throw my tv out the window.
I have a different reason not to wanting nudity to show up. My kids are grown, and two of them are sons. When they've been home I've had to be really careful about what movie I watched, because it's way too weird to be watching a movie with a grown son and have "certain stuff" show up. Besides, I liked the days when things didn't have to be in movies just because people did them in real life. We don't see our real-life neighbors, friends, or relatives doing a lot of stuff, so I don't think we need to see people in movies doing stuff either. ![]()
You can ask the same question about blood, or violence, or sex. Years ago you never saw blood on TV or in the movies. Just look at the old movies you'll see what I mean. To convey the idea of nudity or sex or violence or injury certainly doesn't require showing it in all it's graphic detail, but that has been the trend. I believe filmmakers want to capitalize on shock value. They are less interested in conveying ideas then they are in creating buzz for their work.
That said, I think people and more so Americans than anyone are too hung up over nudity. Why should we be ashamed of our bodies? What's the big deal about seeing skin anyway?
im not ashamed. im tired of competing.
Ditto!
I could not help but notice you are wearing quite a revealing outfit considering you do not like nudity in the movies. Honestly have you thought about covering up more yourself, and what message are you sending to young ladies by exposing your mid-rift like that? No I do not care what you wear, but if you do not like nudity in movies, just think how some fundamentalist Muslims might think you are practically nude in that outfit. Nudity and provocative behavior is all relative, and it is easy to watch many good movies without nudity. Some of them might be more of family films, but if you are more choosy you can find the movies you like.
pornography and nudity in any type of movies must be banned.
it doesn't really matter to me either way. as long as the film has a great plot, and great character development, then im in. i could care less about the nudity factor or how hot the girl(s) are in the movie. if that was the case, I would've been a lot a more generous in my "transformers: revenge of the fallen" review because of megan fox, if that were the case. as long as the nude scenes are done tastefully and doesn't detract from the story, then im cool with it.
besides, if i wanted to see hot naked girls, i'd rent porn if thats all i was looking for. lol.
I know this is going to be hard to comprehend, but modern films come with these nifty little things called Ratings. Now, ratings are pretty tricky, I mean, good gosh, there are so many of them! However, I feel like I can help in this regard by posting a link of a key to said ratings.
http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp
Hopefully that will give you a better idea of what kind of film you will be watching and what areas of 'flesh' might be exposed during said viewing. Read closely I know it can be confusing, but if you get frustrated because the words are too big and complex here's another link to help with that.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/
I hope I could be of some assistance to those of you who are afraid of seeing blood, violence, and/or anyone showing skin that looks better than yours. Oh, and I figured this link might help too, just in case.
http://www.freedieting.com/
I feel like the above links will give you all the insight you need to battle these nasty foes that can certainly hinder your ability to live a happy and fulfilling life. Good hunting!
That depends in what context its shown. I liked the nude scenes in Titanic, Taking lives, The beach etc. because they all enriched emotionally which you can never find in a porn. But i hate nudity in films like American Pie, Harold & Kumar and in such teen movies which is totally unnecessary, uncool and totally immature crap! For such movies, i'd say its better to get a porno
There is a huge difference between nudity and porn. A huge difference...I've seen enough of both thus I know.
Nothing wrong with nudity in film as long as it is done tastefully and not gratuitous.
I feel the same but I feel that recently movies are using too much of nudity when it is not needed. Full frontal nude shots for no reason. It does not go with the plot. Its like directors are putting in nude shots for the hell of it!
i see that this one could be an entertaining discussion.
then again, maybe not...
I for one am not particularity offended by nudity in film, but would have to agree that nude shots are sometimes out of place or seemingly unneeded in some films. I think nudity sells and it's as simple as that!
I don't mind seeing nudity in films if it's for a reason, like the person is in the shower or just coming out of the shower, or getting dressed, etc. Sometimes in life people are naked and film should reflect that.
This is why I don't even watch movies usually. Or ever anymore. I quickly got tired of seeing naked women - if there were just as many shots of fully naked attractive men as women and it fit in with the story line, it would be okay.
amen to that!
The reason why there are more women nude in movies than men is because we can act and we also have the better bodies. If a man has a good body you can almost count on it that he can't act for s**t.
This is cobblers.
People go to movies to see MALE actors. Females, traditionally, play supporting roles. And part of that supporting role is to get their kit off.
Secondly, there are far tighter regulations on how the male penis can be displayed on screen. Females, on the other hand, can get all their bits out and shake them around for fun.
i don't necessarily agree with you that women traditionally play supporting roles. although I do agree with you about the nudity regulations of men and women. where women nudity is a lot more acceptable in movies than male nudity. largely MEN are the primary ones who watch movies statistically. Therefore, i'll give you that one.
As for the women taking on supporting roles in films, i don't agree with you on that at all. women have had strong roles in films over the years. heck,in "julie and julia", in that movie the two main characters were women, and the men were the supporting actors. Plus, ever hear of a classic fifties movie called "the women"? that film was shot with an entire acting cast of women, and NO MEN. Sure they referenced to them a few times in the movie, but men were never in that film. therefore, your point about how women usually do support roles in movies is completely unfounded.
Nudity is fine, like others have said if its for a reason. I never really bring it up because most people are mature enough to just watch the story and go with it. No one likes seeing there own sex nude (unless that's how they role) and everyone commonly accepts it in there own way. Its just life, if we weren't as smart as we are to make clothing then we all would be like that.
~thranax~
I don't mind nudity in films. Particularly if it's some hot young 20-something up and coming male star! ![]()
what movies are you watching?
I dont mind nudity, when it is part of the story.
I dont m ind nudity, when its not part of the story.
I AM tired of all these "college guys get drunk and see tons of hot chick's tits" movies.
I have yet to see a hot naked man, in a non-porn movie.
I am tired of being made to feel like I am less attractive because of all these young, attractive, firm and large breasted women, in nearly every movie my husband has seen lately.
You really don't need to worry about that DM.
Plus much as I love naked chicks in movies, they won't keep you warm at night. ![]()
thank you, but trust me.....i get boring......
Well you've never given any indication here as to being even slightly boring, but I appreciate that you've been with your hubby a long time, and I guess all relationships lose their zest with time. But I wouldn't say that that meant YOU were boring, just that the honeymoon stage has ended.
i should be quiet now....thanks.
oh just saw this, i think...
thanks?
honeymoons suck......
I'm glad there are not a lot of naked guys running around. And firm breasted young attractive women are getting tiresome as well. None of them can hold a candle to my woman. Beauty comes from within and there are alot of FB and Y women that are ugly people within. There is more to beauty than a "nice" body. Even those folks have flaws. I'm waiting for my wife to get home from her job. I can't wait. I miss her when she's gone.
The more the merrier. And not only in films ![]()
I don't think it's the gratuitous nudity I mind so much but the gratuitous sex that doesn't advance the plot. Action films have got a lot sexier; they also use language that isn't expressive of anything...f*** every other word or so; though the technology has advanced to make a better picture, the story-telling has declined, so on the whole I enjoy movies much less now than I did five or ten years ago.
Umm..whoever said that there should be more hot and sexy naked guys on movies...I'm all for it. Don't mind the nudity at all.
There is a rating before every movie and TV show for a reason folks. Don't like it, don't watch it.
As for kids, take advantage of technology and use the parental controls that are available with most cable boxes. If my son tries to change the channel to anything rated higher than "PG", it requires a password.
Well said!!!
I don't mind a little nudity in my movies, but it has to go along with the story. I don't like watching a movie about 1 guy kicking the crap out of 40 other dudes and then all of a sudden there's a naked chick running through the scene. It's just goofy if ya ask me. For whoever said sex sells, you damned skippy sex sells, because our minds have dwindled so much in this country that anything more complex than a boner is difficult for us to comprehend.
films reflect and put a microscope to life. In life we're sometimes naked, so in film we should be too I'd have thought.
Yes RP chapman you are right about that, but how many times in your life have you been sitting in class when oopsy all of a sudden your hot teachers dress gets caught on the desk and gets completely ripped off, and she happens to not be wearing a bra or underwear? If this happens a great deal please give me the name of the school you go to, and step by step driving directions. LOL
Nudities fine as long as they where clothes.
Personally I don't know why so many people are offended by nudity. We as a culture put too much negativity on the naked human form. Clothing tends to define us as a class society. It tends to separate us and place us in artificial groups of different degrees of success and prosperity. We all come into the world naked and that's how we leave it. We shouldn't be ashamed of our bodies or embarrassed by them. Perhaps if we all felt that way there wouldn't be so much nudity and sex in movies. It would be too ordinary and lacking any shock value would more than likely end up on the editors floor.
Nudity also could come as an art form.. However, it does have two sides to the story. If it enhances the creativity and adds value to the story line, I guess it is OK. We also have a rating scheme, so if anyone doesn't want to, they can refrain from seeing it..
I say bring it on. The more the better. Like the movie 'Orgy of the Dead'. That is a great example of tasteful nudity in a film.
isnt that a ... porn?
No, it's not a porn.....It's a low budget horror movie from Ed Wood done in 65'.
LOL havent seen it, im still pretty sure i wouldnt be suprised theirs a porn out there with that title
yeah it does sell, our society is not yet done with these things , as humans we are still in the first stage of Maslows hierarchy of needs, basic needs--sex, Maybe someday people will not pay attention to it anymore and it will not sell, wonder what comes next?
Nudity is about as natural as anything. It is a projection of intimacy and shamelessness. And yet, Hollywod still concentrates on marketing films, to children especially, that are senselessly violent. Why is it okay for people to enjoy gratuitous cartoon violence? And at the same time, why are we made to feel ashamed of our natural state?
I don't mind nudity...as long as it's pleasing to the eye!
Of course, I'm not going to sit down and watch an entire movie of naked people!
I don't really mind seeing nudity in films if it actually fits in with the movie. When they are obviously only there so that there are hot naked women in the movie then it is rather irritating. If they are going to show so many naked women only to please the male audience then they should equally show attractive naked men.
Most of the time it has little or no bearing on the story and adds nothing but, the enlightened fell it's important to our cultural expierence, HUH?
Russ Meyer was a master of delicately injecting a film with a touch of well placed nudity.
I think the inclusion of nudity in a film has got to make sense to the plot and storyline for it to be justified. A gratuitous nude scene to raise prurient interests is distastful to me but done right can be very provocative and meaningful.
Honestly, I think that our puritanical roots come out far too prevelntly when issues of nudity and sexuality come to the fore. Violence is a part of our sociaty and not just in this country but in every other country on the planet. Our history is written in blood, thats the reson gratuitous violence is such a draw, but even the violence in movies and other media is very "clean" compared to the true chaos of battle. Unlike the horrors of war however, sex and the naked human form are both things that we all can get to know very well. If there is one thing I dislike it's excess, but I dislike misrepresentation even more. If the film is about a particular time period or event that calls for nudity so be it. If it's nudity for laughs, go for it. If it's nudity for nuditie's sake, fine. But as many others here have already said, let it be tasteful.
Just like alot of things in film nudity sets a mood, Shows weekness or that someone has power. now there are 100 of ways to show this kind of stuff in movies this is just one tool to use. taking nudity out of film would be the same if you took music out of film. Its all there to tell a store!
It really isn't necessary. Back in the day film makers relied on writing and not flesh to peddle their vehicles.
Bogart, Monroe, Davis and Crawford made beautiful films that intimated sex, but it wasn't necessary to show the act. We all knew what happen there was no need to shove it down the audience throat.
I think todays film makers rely on nudity, because they lack talent. It's all part of dumming down the audience we're actually being told that we're too stupid to get it.
For me its ok. I will be honest and say that I dont mind watching a scantily clad female lead actor jiggle her way across the screen. I didn't agree with the male full frontal in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". I did enjoy Halle Berry topless in Swordfish, and she was given the decision to appear topless. Plus she was compensated well for it. Nudity is ok as long as it drives a story. For those that don't like it, then don't watch it. Please don't force your views on the rest of us. There are ratings systems in place to protect the innocence of children and to let adults know what could possibly be in that particular program or movie.
There are two things in life that never become tiresome:
1. The music of Pat Metheny
2. Looking at a beautiful womans' naked body.
Never (sigh).
I concur with the second as well ;p
My boyfriend and I argue about this all the time. I hate It and he thinks a movie is only funny if its in there like all the movies like sex drive and crap like that. I hate It I really do I feel dumb sitting there watching it when it feel like im watching porn. I'm a feminist to a certain extreme and movies like that shows me all a guy wants. Plus I dont weigh 103 pounds so i feel degraded When my boyfriend likes their body. I'm Like "hey 125 pound lard over here" In conclusion I think those movies are degrading and immature.
im sorry to hear about that. personally, i don't think nudity or sex is really influential in most films. however, i do see your point though. i could care less if nudity or sex was in a movie, just as long as its tasteful and doesn't interfere with the plot or character development. most films just use nudity and sex as a novelty it seems like as you could tell just about any movie without actually showing nudity or the sex scene and still deliver the same impact of a story, just look at any fifties film for proof. they never actually showed the sex, but they gave you enough idea to see what was going on. however, most writers are too lazy to write films like that anymore and since hollywood feels the masses like us are generic morons, they feel the only way people will know sex took place is unless they show it.
