How to be content and happy in life?

I think to be content is to settle, and settling isn't happiness. The answer to that question is to see the many blessings that already exist in your life. To know gratitude for what you have. It can be as simple as a safe place to sleep at night, food to eat, a roof over your head, the love of family or of friends, the beautiful first rays of the sun in the morning, the air in your lungs, a chance to have another day. Start from there and work outwards.

Happiness and contentment go hand in hand.

You cannot be content and not be happy, and you cannot be happy until you are content. Many times, we confuse ourselves by always looking to the outside - things we have, money, jobs, careers, relationships. However, everything we need for happiness we already possess and it's given to us by God. We are all born with it. It's the ability to have joy. Joy is the source of happiness. Joy is what is in you.Happiness is what happens to you.

Being more aware of who and why we are, is the beginning of a life of happiness and contentment. To be content is not to settle, but to be satisfied. There is a difference. Being satisfied doesn't mean you stop dreaming. It means being appreciative of your position. Living with purpose is the only sure way to happiness and contentment. Whatever your purpose in life is, find it. AND in finding it, you find yourself. And, finding yourself is what brings contentment and happiness. Enjoy your journey to self-discovery and self-appreciation.

Contentment and happiness comes from within. IF we are happy and satisfied at whatever life has thrown at us...then nothing can change that feeling.

Would like to share some of the tips that I got from a self-help guru about becoming happy:

    - Fill your minds with happy thoughts.
    - Forgive and forget enemies.
    - Always do the best you can.
    - Accept that you may also  fail.
    - Surround your self with people who think positively.
    - Love your self.
    - Love others.
    - Expect ingratitude even from the people you help.

I think the key is keeping it simple. By that I mean don't try to keep up with the Joneses.

Know yourself, love your friends and family. Accept people for who they are. Accept yourself too. Surround yourself with good, positive people.

Avoid negative people at all costs. They will only bring you down.

Figure out as early as you can what you believe your life's purpose is and go after it.

Stay focused on your goals. Keep setting new goals to keep yourself growing.
