Do the ingredients in some foods alarm you?
Do you pay attention to food labels? If so, are you aware of what the ingredients are?
Yes I always check the label..esp for non halal ingredients
Yes, especially the aspartame sweetener, high fructose corn syrup, too much salt, too much sugar, foods with high sat fat, and trans fat. I check ingredients carefully, hoping to live longer and have quality life.
I wouldn't say "alarm". But upset or depress. Though I normally look at the calories. 2,000 for a bag of chips! That's more than one person should have in a day!
All packaged foods!
And most non-packaged foods in the USA. The FDA works for big pharma, not for the people. In fact, FDA officials quite often find cushy jobs in big pharma after their stint in government.
Poisonous, carcinogenic!
Farming advances have gone too far into the "greed" zone and left the "health" zone far behind.
Great question and my answer is YES! I hardly know what half of this stuff is. I know when I read the Breyers Ice Cream label, I read cream, sugar, and natural flavors. I can handle that. I read the ingredients off of a simple load of wheat bread - and I have no idea what half of that stuff is, and have to search hard for the wheat!
I try to stay away from salt and preservatives, but they are in everything! And recently, the news reported that canned goods have issues....is anything safe to eat???
yes,how the products is made is how your body is going to react.
Yes of course, but to be honest, I rarely eat processed food. I make everything from scratch. It is more nutritious and safer. They don't even know what all of those additives do in the long run.
It is somewhat alarming that there is so much chemicals in the foods we eat. Even the containers that the food is packed in is getting attention, with BPa and who knows what. But isn't it ironic that the average life expectancy in the U.S. is so much higher now than it was, say, a 100 years ago? From 1900 to 1902, the average life expectancy at birth was 49.2 years (Congressional Research Service vol.54, no.13, 2006). Today, we can expect to live to an average of 77.9 years.
Yes it's very alarming? The thing is I bet half those ingredients listed in that pure aren't even necessary to create the product!
I pay close attention to food labels and it amazes me what we chose to put in our mouths. It amazes me even more what we chose to give our children who don't know any better. When I don't know what something is in a food, I put it back on the shelf and find something a little more natural. It's hard sometime to live eating clean but it's well worth it and it's getting easier, as more and more people are starting to care about it.
I am aware so much it was difficult to shop for food. I am getting better at it and come up with different recipes. It is difficult to go to certain markets. My Fiance had to order food from a health food store when I went to visit him. The health food isles don't always have the healthiest food either, so I still have to read the label.
Food I once thought was healthy really wasn't. For health reasons I had to come pretty close to a vegan diet. I have been a vegetarian for years so the leap was easy and necessary to alleviate pain. The food I thought was healthy was very high in sodium and processed.
With an all natural diet, whole foods, fruit and veggies, green decaf tea and water ,may sound boring to some but reading the labels and knowing what to avoid has done more for me than I could ever imagine. My body works like an ibuprofen now. That ache in my hips is gone too and not the reason I went on the diet. Just like the photo you have up, I can read most of the ingredients and I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
Yes I read labels. More than half the time you cannot even pronounce some of the ingredients.
I once was told that if a product had more than 4 ingredients stay away from it and also if it had ingredients you could not pronounce. The reason being that these would be chemicals used to process and preserve the food longer on the shelves.
Another tip I was given was to shop the perimeter of the grocery store as the majority of the processed foods are in the aisles and you want to stay away from these as much as possible.

Should government ban foods or should we do a better job of regulating food labels?I don't wish to read the fine print. We have street signs rather than verbiage, our computers are now crafted with universal signs and yet our food labels are still designed for the rocket scientist complete with...
