I had the privilege of working alongside a co-worker who was hearing impaired and whose spouse was also deaf. A tremendous man with a great personality. The last year we worked before we both retired, he was able to have a cochlear implant and is now able to hear. Just how much I don't know but a great improvement for sure. He is now in the process of getting a hearing dog which will be a great asset to he and his wife at night. Advancements such as the implants and now hearing dogs have enabled my friend and many others opportunities to now hear what many of us take for granted.
Dogs for the deaf need much more publicity. They must bring such joy as well as practical support. I have such great respect for the medical researchers work on deafness and blindness. truly changing lives for the better.

I would like to explore the community as many deaf people do hold a standard of "community" and value this highly. I'd like to write a Hub about this.
