    What is prayer?

Is it just communication to God?

First, an individual has to believe in a creator or God, in order to pray. Prayer is a heartfelt communication between a person of faith and his or her God. It is asking of blessings, protection, and wellness. It is seeking guidance from one who is all knowing and all seeing. It is being thankful and letting your creator know that you are. Prayer can be many things or just one...a holy time, that is honestly sought by a believer and one who chooses faith to live by.

Yeah, I think it is just that...simply communication with God. It does not have to formal, long, or a standard.

a prayer is not just simply communicating with god. It's more than that. Yea it does not need to be formal, but then prayer is not selfish.

To begin with it takes our breath to be able to speak.  Since life is sustained by breath, but not breath alone, speaking becomes sacred.  Even if we are not in a mode of pray or that frame of mind, when we open our mouths, we are praying.  In our lives we are careful of what rolls off the tongue and what we give life to.  After all, according to Genisis, God spoke all of creation into being.  This does not mean we have the power of God and can create as He did, but our words do have great power to hurt or heal.  This is coming from a Native American Indian point of view or teachings.  This is why we believe our words should always carry truth and be of the heart.  In other words, prayer is a sacred communitcation and the Creator is listening 24/7!

Prayer is entering the presence of God for communion with Him.

Prayer is your side of a conversation with God. Scripture is God's side of the conversation. When you are reading Scripture, you should also pray so that you are holding a complete conversation with God. I wrote a Hub on this topic called Praying for Your Life.

Prayer is nothing more and nothing less than communicating with God.

It is a process of communicating with God silently or loudly for solution to any problems.
