There are only three reason we suffer.
1. Because we sin
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and YOUR SINS HAVE hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
2. To glorify God
John 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
3. To help someone in your condition
1 Cor 1:2 Grace [be] to you and peace from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation.
The only reason why we suffer is because we learn that happiness comes from external factors, when in reality happiness comes from the inside.
We suffer because we are human, because we can think and feel and ... suffer. For ourselves and for others.
