I actually have two hubs that may answer this question.

    1) Dealing with the loss of a pet: http://hubpages.com/hub/Dealing_With_The_Loss_of_A_Pet

    2) How to decide when to put a dog to sleep: http://hubpages.com/hub/When-to-Put-Your-Dog-to-Sleep

Time. Everyone grieves a little differently. Some of the things you can do include 1) write a letter to your deceased pet, 2) make a photo album or at least go through old photos, 3) spend time with other pets, 4) talk about your loss with a friend or professional counselor, 5) when the time is right, get a new pet, 6) make a donation to a humane society as a memorial to your lost pet.
